LAST CHAPTER

"Coach! Where did you go? We've been searching for you the entire time!" Hyuuga called out the moment he saw the said coach entering the Shuutoku's gym in a leisure way. Then he blinked when he noticed what she was holding. "Err — coach, why are you holding a…baby?"

Riko blinked, confused at first. Then something clicked on her mind. "Oh, this sweet little darling? I found her at the corner of the court," The coach starts cooing, earning several reactions from her team. "How's the game, by the way?"

"We lost," Kagami told her.

"Oh," Riko deadpanned.

In some way, they understood her reaction even without the exact words being said. Some of them shivered.

A few moments after, Riko entertained herself with the baby resting on her arms. They were thankful for that baby, she diverted their coach's attention.

The Seirin team was confused for a moment as soon as they noticed that the Shuutoku team was heading toward their direction. Takao was leading them, which was not a surprise.

What surprised them was seeing Kuroko with the team. Now that they noticed it, what was Kuroko doing with the Shuutoku? They didn't even detect Kuroko's absence until now.

"Ah — Takao-kun," Riko greeted the cheerful boy ahead. Then she noticed Midorima so she greeted him too. But she frowned when every member of Shuutuko appeared one by one, until all of them were gathering in front of her. Even their coach was there. She shifted the baby on her arms before saying, "Shuutuko Team. Can I help you with something?"

"Coach," Kuroko called. "Midorima-kun wants to take a certain property of his back. He's been worried when he found out that it was missing,"

"Certain property of his?" Riko asked, oblivious.

"Kuroko was referring to the baby you are holding now, Aida-san," Takao interjected. "It was his precious lucky item for today."

"What?!" The Seirin team, including Riko exclaimed. She spared a glance at the baby, before looking at Midorima, her face warming out of the sudden. With an awkward smile she said, "Midorima-kun, I'm so sorry for causing you trouble. I'm really sorry. I didn't mean to cause ruckus here, I promise! And I had no idea this baby was actually yours in the first place. I was just curious when I saw the stroller, but it got me concerned when I saw the baby crying. I let her out for the time being. Perhaps she was crying because of the noises around the court. Again, I'm truly sorry, Midorima-kun. I'm just concern about the child's welfare. Ah — here, you can take her back,"

Midorima cradled the baby in a swift movement. It was fast yet gentle not to hurt the baby. He breathed a secret sigh of relief when he noticed that the baby was already sleeping.

"It's alright. No harm done," Midorima said, bowing a little. He directed his glared to Takao instead. Midorima's stare was telling the silent…

I remember you saying something about…what was it again? Oh yeah. Observant.

Takao could only smile — an awkward and apologetic smile. Midorima turned to the lady coach and bowed again. "The crucial part here was the baby's safety and I'm pleased to know that she was in safe arms. I know you only meant well."

"Now that the problem here was solved," Miyaji interjected. "Can we proceed on celebrating our victory now?"

With that being said, the lady coach suddenly realized the outcome of the earlier game. She turned back into a scary person out of the sudden, demanding her team to quadruple their training for tomorrow.

The Seirin team could only groan, while the remaining Shuutoku boys could only sweat drop.

"W-well… What an eventful day today. D-don't you think so, S-shin-chan?"Takao sighed and huffed. He was exerting an immense effort to pull the green-haired man with the stroller on his side.

They were now tracking their way home.

Midorima could only grunt in reply. He doesn't feel like answering Takao at all.

"Shin-chan?"

"Hm," he grunted again.

"Are you going to return the baby once we reached your home?"

"Evidently," He answered. "I was only asked to babysit the baby for today. She's not going to stick with me forever. What kind of a question is that anyway, Takao?"

Takao stopped pedaling with that. Midorima frowned.

"Say, Shin-chan…"

"What?" He answered.

Takao remained silent.

"Takao," He called. "Why aren't you pedaling? Move,"

"Shin-chan, do you know any ice cream store nearby?" Takao said out of the sudden, grinning. "I feel like eating ice cream today."

"What?" Midorima exclaimed. "What's gotten into you, Takao? We're almost near. I could already see the contour of my house!"

Takao didn't even listen. He hopped out of his bike and manipulated the rickshaw to the other direction. Midorima could only huff, unsure of Takao's impulsive actions.

He pushed his glasses when Takao starts pulling them again. Hearing his tired huffing and puffing was irritating his ears. Because that only meant Takao was forcing himself again.

Not that he was concern.

Well, yes. Truth to be told he is, but there's no way he would admit it though.

With an unconscious mind, his hands rest on the side of the stroller. Then he stilled as a sudden thought came across his mind. He allowed his eyes to wander on Takao's backside.

A tiny smile was threatening to touch his lips.

Midorima understood Takao's actions now.

xXx

It was already dark when they finally decided to go home. The sky was clear; no mutating clouds were visible. Stars were now appearing one by one.

Instead of going to the place where Takao had suggested and eating the ice cream that he desired, they had spent their remaining time on different places.

Midorima had the feeling he was doing this to savor the moments remaining with the baby. Despite the feeling of irritation and the urge to go home and rest his aching back, he complied with Takao's silent wish.

His reverie was cut when Takao announced that they were already there. He scoot on the edge of the rickshaw and stretched after standing up.

He watched Takao as he tried to move the stroller down — taking special notice when his lips turned to gentle smile the moment he observed the sleeping baby.

He moved his glasses with that. He was trying to hide his own smile.

"Shin-chan, shall we?" He said, turning to him.

He simply nodded and led them to their neighborhood's home. He gestured for Takao to ring the bell once they stood before the gate.

It took only a fleet second before a middle-aged woman greeted them. She smiled when she saw the stroller.

"Midorima-kun," She greeted. "Your timing was good. We've only arrived just a moment ago. How's the baby doing?"

So it was a good idea that they had spent the remaining time on different places or they would be consuming their time waiting for the couple to return.

"Yes, the baby was all right," Midorima nudged Takao. He got his meaning since he stoop down to take the baby into his arms. He cradled it with gentle hands.

He cleared his throat when he saw the scrutinizing stare of the woman on Takao.

"This is my…friend, Takao Kazunari," He explained. "You don't have to worry, Kuriko-san, the baby is in good hands."

"Greetings, Kuriko-san," Takao bowed in respect, secretly smirking at Midorima's explanation of their relationship.

"We had to bring the baby to school since we had classes today." Midorima went on.

"Oh, you should have said that earlier, Midorima-kun," She said. "I shouldn't have bothered you for taking care of my baby then."

"It's nothing, Kuriko-san," He answered.

"Well then, shall I have her now?"

Midorima nudged Takao again, which he quickly complied by putting the child onto the woman's waiting arms. He noticed the sudden sadness stir on Takao's face before it disappeared.

"Oh, my baby, how I missed you today!" Kuriko-san cuddled her with tender care at that. Then she turned to Midorima. "Thank you so much for taking care of my baby while we're away. Can you wait here for a moment? I'll be paying for your effort—"

"No need for that, Kuriko-san," Midorima said. "I lent my consideration without asking anything for return."

"Are you sure about that, Midorima-kun?"

He nodded.

"If that was your wish then," She smiled. "I'm really grateful to have a neighbor as kind as you. Not to mention handsome."

Takao snorted with that. Midorima nudged him on the ribs, and then he turned his attention to the woman. He bowed before saying, "We will be going then."

"Of course, thanks again."

He bowed again. Takao followed suit.

xXx

"Are you staying?"

Takao looked at Midorima, shocked for a moment. It was unusual for him to ask Takao to stay. But then again, his Shin-chan is unpredictable sometimes. He smiled afterwards. "If you want me, then can I?"

Midorima simply looked away as he pushed their gate open. He paced toward their front door without closing the gate.

Takao quickly understood that gesture so he followed him inside. He was the one who locked the gate.

Once he was inside, he noticed that Midorima's family is not home yet. Takao smirked at Midorima's back, he was on the middle of arranging his shoes at the front step.

"Shin-chan~" He called, trying to suppress his laughter. "Why don't we start making babies too?"

He burst into a series of laughter when Midorima spluttered, choking.

"What in the world are you saying, Takao?!" Midorima exclaimed. "That series of thinking is impossible! You do know that we're both guys, do you not?"

He shrugged, pushing his luck on teasing him. "If we were to have sex every single day, perhaps luck will be on our side. There's a saying that wonders never cease."

Midorima spluttered more. "T-Takao!"

I don't know why, but whenever I write a short multiple chapter stories, my ending would always be like this. Silly moments.

Thank you for following, liking, and reviewing this story. I really had fun doing this.

Trivia:

In this story, Takao was fond of babies too. This was sort of connected to my Memories one-shot. If you want a sad and heart-breaking ending, then that story was made just for you.
