Hey Hi Hello everyone! This might be confusing and just a tad bit sad.

You have been warned.

Epilogue

~4 Years Later~

I'm practically shaking with nervousness. Cake is there with me, trying to calm me down, but it's not working. I've been waiting for this day for as long as I can remember. I really just want to run out into the clearing of the woods and get this show on the road, but I stay put in my spot between the trees. The flower girl walks down the aisle and Cake walks me a little closer to the altar. I quickly turn to her, bouquet shaking in my hands. "Cake. I cant do this. I feel like I'm going to throw up, or faint, or-"

"Sweetie. You're going to go out there and say your vows and be a great husband." Cake smiles at me. "And you look very dashing." I smile down at the white suit I have on. I straighten my blood red tie before twirling the flowers in my hand nervously. Finally, the music starts, and with a push from Cake, I start walking down the aisle.

Marshall Lee is absolutely breathtaking.

He's dressed in a black suit and black undershirt and a bright pink tie and I feel like crying because Marshall is right there and he actually wore the tie and I'm about to get globbing married to him. Marshall gapes at me before smiling, encouraging me to keep walking. The bouquet is shaking and my hands are sweating but I take my time, walking slowly so I wont trip. I finally make my way to the altar and stand across from Marshall, handing the flowers to Bubblegum. Marshall takes my hands as soon as they're free, and holds them to his face.

"Bubba, you're shaking."

"I-I know. I'm just really really really nervous right now. But in a good way. Happy nervous." I smile at him, and he kisses my hand.

"So am I." He smiles and brings my hands back down. He gives them a final squeeze before the priest comes and stands between us.

It takes a whole twenty minutes to get through the ceremony. We're about to end with the famous 'kiss your partner' when yelling breaks out somewhere in the forest. A swarm of Candy People appear from the trees, running and yelling hurtful words at us. Bubblegum tells all the wedding guests to scatter. Marshall pushes me towards Cake.

"Get him somewhere safe, now!" He orders.

"What?! No, Marshall. I'm not leaving without you."

"Bubba, please. The people are dangerous. I have to protect our guests. Please go. I promise I'll be safe." He caresses my face before transforming into a bat and flying over to the riot. Some people have pitchforks, others have torches. Cake picks me up and sprints as fast as she can, and I can see a faint glimpse of the rioters setting my altar on fire.

Gumball sits up in bed clutching the sheets to his bare chest. "So I dreamt about that again..." He sighs, wiping the cold sweat from his forehead before settling back down in bed. Marshall stirs next to him, flailing an arm around until he gets a hold of Gumball's face. He rubs his thumb over Gumball's lips.

"What's wrong, Bubbs?" Marshall huffs out in a sleep-strained voice, causing Gumball to involuntary shudder. Marshall smiles.

"Nothing, just had a bad flashback." Gumball yawns, snuggling closer to the vampire. Marshall runs his hand through the cotton candy hair while Gumball draws shapes on cool skin.

"Were you thinking about the wedding again?" Marshall sighs as Gumball nods into his chest.

"I am so sorry your big day ended up like that, Bubbs. Really, I am."

"It wasn't my day, Marshall, it was ours. And we should've known. Neither kingdom was accepting of our engagement and the possibility of becoming a joint kingdom with each other. We should've just eloped like you suggested. Why did I have to insist on a wedding?"

"Because that's what you do, Bubbs." Marshall grabs Gumball's face and tilts it so they're gazing at each other. "You insist on impractical things because you want something done traditionally or how you planned it. And I sit back and watch your brain work and think and plan because that's something I absolutely adore about you. You're willing to take risks if that means getting what you want, and I love it." He kisses Gumballs forehead before turning over to his normal sleeping position on his face. Gumball closes his eyes and tries to remember all the good things that has happened to him the past few years. Getting married, owning a house-

"Daddy! Daddy! Daddy!" Michael screams, jumping onto the bed.

-oh yeah, and Michael.

Michael Lee Gumball was born a year after Gumball and Marshall got married. He's all candy, with pink skin and all, but his red eyes are unmistakable. He has pink hair, but has a cowlick on in the middle of his head that grows black hair straight up. Marshall is pretty proud of that.

But when news broke of a new baby in the Kingdom, the Candy People were furious. Riots and protests happened almost every day, and some threatened to leave the Kingdom. Gumball had thought everything would die down, but he was so wrong.

On the night of Michael's first birthday, the rioters were louder than ever, causing the family of three to wake up. Michael had started crying, so Gumball walked over to the crib to console him. He picked the baby up and rocked him, glancing at Marshall to check what the ruckus was. As Marshall reached for the door to the castle balcony, a lit torch came flying through the glass door, shattering it. The torch landed on the bed both royals had been sharing just seconds before. The two had a split second to process the situation before another came flying, this time landing in the baby crib. Gumball screamed as he ran to the other side of the room, and Marshall took his husband and son out into the castle hallway. Peppermint Maid found them quickly and led them to the secret escape route into the forest. They had escaped safely, and neither one was seen in their kingdom again.

Gumball is thankful that his family got away safely, especially for Michael. He's not even sure how he was able to conceive a child, with his, er, anatomy, but he's so glad he did. Michael is always happy and curious and bubbly and a beautiful light in Marshall and Gumball's life, and they couldn't have asked for more.

That's why all Gumball could do was laugh when Michael jumps up and down on Marshall's head. The strong vampire is unfazed, and lay still as his son continues to bounce on his skull. Gumball quickly sits up in bed before Michael takes a leap at his head, and lands with a laugh in Gumball's arms instead.

"And what exactly are you doing up this early, mister?" Gumball cradles Michael in his arms and kisses his forehead, earning a soft squeal.

"You told me to wake you up for the big day today!" Michael says, clutching Gumball's sleep shirt with his tiny fists.

"Oh, yeah!" Gumball says, scurrying out of the bed and placing his son on the floor. "Can you wait outside while Daddy and I get ready?" Michael nods excitedly before running out the room.

XxXxXxX

Within 10 minutes, both men are dressed and ready to go. "Michael, you have to stay behind with unties Marcy and Bubble, but I promise Daddy and I will be back real soon." Gumball says, handing the boy to Bubblegum before patting his head.

"Where are you going?"

"Just to see an old friend." Marshall pipes in from the front door.

"...Okay. Just be back soon, okay?"

"Will do, buddy." Gumball kisses the top of Michaels forehead before walking over to Marshall. Marshall picks Gumball up bridal style before taking off.

"Marshall Lee."

"Yes, love?"

"I will never get used to that." Marshall laughs.

"Good to know."

It takes hours on foot to reach the Candy Kingdom from their house, but Marshall had insisted on seeing that Gumball was safe around the Kingdom at all times. He wasn't exactly welcome anymore.

But today, no one would be paying attention. It has been nearly 4 years since Gumball resigned from office, and it's about time for someone else to rule the Candy Kingdom.

Marshall drops Gumball in an alley of the Candy Kingdom so he doesn't have to deal with security at the entrance. Gumball follows the music before turning around. "You coming?"

"Nah, I'll just stay here. Come back when you're ready to leave." Marshall shrugs, and he gets a nod in response.

Gumball follows the streets he remembers from memory that lead to his former castle. When he arrives, a mob of people are already waiting in front of the bedroom balcony. It's obviously been remodeled. People who weren't involved wouldn't know that same balcony was set ablaze 4 years ago. Gumball shudders at the thought. The people are buzzing about until the balcony doors open. Gumball pulls on his black hoodie and stands under a markets awning. Peppermint Maid walks out slowly, like she doesn't want to be there. She looks like she lost all her personality, and she's reduced to a laboring drone. "Good morning, fellow members of the Candy Kingdom. I know you've been waiting long for a new ruler after our previous resigned. Well, without further ado, I present to you, Princess Fionna and the Flame Prince!" she steps aside to reveal Fionna and the Flame Prince linked together. They walk out elegantly and the crowd erupts. Gumball smiles up at Fionna. So Fi has gone and become a princess, huh? He thinks. That's good. The people need a princess like her. She will bring great honor to the kingdom and her new joint kingdom. She's waving to the audience and her eyes land on Gumball. She blinks a few times before smiling. He smiles at her and bows. She smiles and curtsies subtly. Gumball salutes her one final time before starting the walk back to Marshall. They didn't have to exchange words for him to pass a message on to her.

This visit was a quick glance back at Gumball's past. He can't meet his friends anymore in fear that someone will see him and follow him. He can't put his family in danger. His friends are growing up and moving on, living their own lives. And now its his turn. He turns the corner to find Marshall waiting for him.

"You ready?" Marshall asks. Gumball hesitates.

"Y-yeah. I'm ready." Marshall picks the former prince up and takes off.

This is Gumballs last visit to the Candy Kingdom. He has dwelled too long in the past, and it's time for him to focus on himself for a change and raising a family. He may not have a big castle with maids and guards and a whole town of people to protect, but he has his King, and a bubbly little pink knight that Gumball will always look after.

And that's all he'll ever need.
