"Kevin seem a little… off to you?" Dean asked Sam.

"Sure he's stressed out and a bit…"

"Nuts?"

Sam shrugged, "But what's new?"

"It's not just that… he seems to be… scratching a lot."

"What?"

"Like a dog with fleas. And he's spending a lot of time in his room. I'm not sure the dude's even showering."

"Well…" Sam paused. Sure he cared about Kevin, but he didn't really know him. "You gonna ask him about it?"

"Me? Wouldn't it be better coming from you."

"Dude looks up to you," Sam assured, clapping Dean on the back and leaving abruptly."

"A dog? Seriously? I was less angry when I thought you had fleas," Dean groaned.

"He's just a puppy. I'll buy shampoo. This won't be a problem."

"Your room stinks."

"Well now that you know I can take care of that. I'll do everything, baths, walks, he's my responsibility."

"Kevin, it's just not realistic, our lifestyle, there's no place for a dog."

"But that's the thing, you and Sam travel a lot but I'm always here. Alone. I can do this. Please Dean, it's helping, it's the one thing that helping me…. cope… with all of this. I need this."

"I can't believe you said yes," Sam grinned. "You call me a girl, you make fun of how I like to talk about feelings and stuff. You let Kevin keep a puppy. Face it Dean you're a push over."

"I was not. I did not. I… The kid has been through a lot."

"And you felt sorry for him," Sam teased. "You big softie."

"Look the kid said he'd look after him. I'm not his parent, it's not my job to say no. He wants a dog, he's got one, its his problem," Dean defended. But really, Sam was right.

"The prophet has acquired a canine?" Cas queried eyeing the yellow lump sleeping beside Dean while Kevin made coffee. "This is unexpected."

"You're telling me," Dean complained.

"You don't like dogs?"

Dean shrugged, "They're okay, I guess, but hunters don't have pets."

"Kevin is not a hunter."

"You're right there."

"Pets seem to be quite common among human children. Did you ever wish you had a pet?" Cas probed.

Dean sighed. "Sam wanted one. A little brother was enough for me," he deflected.

"And now?"

"We'll see." The pupped let out a happy sigh. Dean fought back a smile.
