A MakoHaru fanfic by RedPoofballHat

AN: Hey There! I haven't posted anything in months, I know, but my computer wasn't working and it is now, so hopefully I will be posting a lot of new fics soon and updating my other ones. So this one shot is kind of inspired by the song "Sink to the Bottom" by Fountains of Wayne. It's one of my favorite songs, so you guys should check it out J

Enjoy!

Sink to the Bottom

The ocean is cold, but I my lungs are on fire, burning with anticipation. The sky is as black as his hair, no one to see us as we swim further and further from the shore.

He ducks under a particularly large wave and I follow suit. The ocean is one of the most dangerous places to be during a storm, but everyone knows that. The cold water and choppy waves are difficult to maneuver through, but I keep pushing, because this is what he wants, and whatever makes him happy makes me happy.

I turn back to look at the land, impossibly out of reach. Even if I wanted to go back, I would never survive. We are at the will of the thunder, the wind, and the ocean.

The ocean is such a mysterious thing. We know more about the moon than we do about the sea. It's this crazy, amazing, unpredictable thing, which I guess is why I was afraid of it for so long. But now, in this moment, I am not afraid. Not in the slightest. I throw back my head and let out a long, loud laugh. What's it going to do? Kill me? Well why do you think I'm here?!

In this moment of pure vulnerability, I am not afraid, and I finally understand what he's been going on about all this time. In this moment, I am free, and it feels wonderful. Like nothing else matters.

He turns back to look at me, his beautiful, ocean-deep eyes burning with passion.

He has always been free.

"Are you ready?" He asks, barely above a whisper.

His voice is soft as the waves around us spiral into insanity, reaching higher than I knew they could.

I reach him, reaching under the blanket of water to grab hold of one of his hands, fitting into mine perfectly.

I want to tell him one last time.

I reach up with one hand, placing it on the side of his face gently.

"Haruka Nanase," I say.

He looks at me intently. I know he likes the way I say his full name.

"I think you're beautiful," I start, "And I think you're smart. And I think you're wonderful in every way. And I love how passionate you are about the things you love…"

"And the people," He interrupts, wrapping his free hand around my neck.

"But above all else," I continue, "I think you're perfect."

"Mako," he breathes.

Haru has never been one for talking, unlike me. He has always been one to express his feelings through actions, so he kisses me, hard. I kiss him back and we sink under the water.

When we pull apart, he mouths "I love you" and squeezes my hand. We decided that would be our signal. I nod and peck his lips one last time before grabbing both his hands as we breathe in the water. My vision goes black as we sink…

Deeper.

Deeper.

All the way to the bottom.
