Hermione stood at the base of the stairs looking into the living room where her boyfriend of three years stood. His bags were packed and he was staring at her.
"Hermione, I… Please…" He gave up trying to say anything and moved to kiss her.
She took a step back. "Charlie, don't. You're leaving; I don't want anymore pain." She turned her back to him. "I'll leave a light on just in case you ever decide to come back."
"I'd love that."
I told you I'd leave a light on
In case you ever wanted to come back home
You smiled and said you appreciate the gesture
I took your every word to heart
'Cause I can't stand us being apart
And just to show how much I really miss ya
Hermione heard the door shut and finally let her tears fall. She just layed in bed until night was finally upon her. She walked around the house flipping on light switches before walking to the back yard. She flipped the switch that turned on the fairy lights and every light in the yard. You could tell that there wasn't a dark spot, anywhere. She walked toward the front of the house and looked at the front lawn. Lights lined the sidewalk and she could have seen her house from across town.
Every light in the house is on
The backyard's bright as the crack of dawn
The front walk looks like runway lights
It's kinda like noon in the dead of night
Every light in the house is on
Just in case you ever do get tired of being gone
Every light in the house is on
It's been three years since he walked out to go to Romania. She still loves him but she's starting to loose hope. She finally, after the first week of the third year, turned one light out. She was finally agreeing that it was over. She would only ever turn one light off. She knew that if he looked toward London he would see her. Her house was a beacon and she never wanted to give up hope.
If I should ever start forgetting
I'll turn the lights off one by one
So you can see that I agree it's over
But until then I want you to know
If you look south, you'll see a glow
That's me waiting at home each night to hold ya
The fourth year came around and the lights were still on. A man stood at the end of the walkway staring at the house. It was late but he knew that she would be up. She always was. He pulled out his Gryffindor courage and walked toward the door.
Knock, knock.
Hermione jumped from her seat and ran toward the door. She knew it was him. She threw the door open. His ginger hair was in his eyes and she could see some new scars.
"Charlie."

She jumped into his arms and kissed him.
"Listen, Mione. I'm sorry. I'm glad that you left every light in the house on. I finally got tired of being gone."
