Ron and Hermione Weasley stood on Platform nine and three quarters waiting for the Hogwarts Express to bring thirteen year old Rose and eleven year old Hugo back home for Christmas. Hermione strained her neck in an attempt to see the train.
"'Mione," laughed Ron, "your going to break your neck in half if you stay like that."
In response, Hermione stretched her neck even more. Ron rolled his eyes. "I saw that," snapped Hermione.
She must have eyes in the back of her head or something, thought Ron.
"I think I heard something!" Hermione yelled excitedly.
Sure enough the sound of a roaring engine grew nearer. Soon Ron could see steam and a few moments later the scarlet school train pulled into view.
Ron searched above the heads of the hundreds of students exiting the train. Soon, he saw two redheads with freckled faces hurrying his way. One of those redheads ran up to him and gave him a huge hug. The other was hugging Hermione. The family of four started on their way to their car, stopping every once in a while to say a quick hello to aunts, uncles, and cousins.
When the four of them were settled into the car, Rose and Hugo were bombarded with questions ranging from quidditch to classes.
"Have you made any new friends?" Hermione asked Hugo.
"Yeah. Jack, Tyler, Gibby, and Daniel. I wrote about them in my letters remember?"
"Have you made any enemies?" Ron joked.
"Ron!" Hermione scolded.
Hugo hesitated a moment. "Well she's not really an enemy," he began "but... I guess she is but not really."
Hugo stuttered on for another few minutes until Rose had enough of his rambling. She looked up from her novel and sighed.
"Her name is Evanna Timings. She's a Gryffindor first year, but everyone thinks she should be in Ravenclaw. She knows the answer to everything- and not just the first year curriculum. I was doing homework in the common room and I didn't know the answer. I asked Sarah but before she could answer Evanna started this whole speech about ways to identify a werewolf."
"And she does in all the time," Hugo complained "Especially to me! I can't say one thing without her criticizing or giving even more information."
"You know, Hugo," Ron said "when I was in first year there was a girl who was exactly like that."
Hugo perked up at this hoping his dad would know some secret way to make annoying girls be quiet for once. "What did you do?" he asked eagerly.
Ron smiled and looked at Hermione in the rear view mirror.
"I married her."
