Disclaimer: I don't own NCIS LA or any of it's characters. Things would be a whole lot different if I did :(
This is angst, pure and simple. So yes, this is the mood I was in. I think you can all understand with Spoils of War airing tonight, right? Oh my. Please review and let me know what you think. Here we go...
He found her in the armory, Kensi stood with her back to him. He knew she was aware of his presence. He took a deep breath, knowing what was coming. To be honest he had put off finding her. He had felt the tension between them brewing ever since her return. This was something they had to address, gone were the days he was willing to ignore the elephant in the room. If her mission which led to the team's own rescue mission had taught him anything, it was that everything you ever wanted could be taken away from you in blink of an eye. In fact it had been.
The feeling of inexplicable joy he had experienced at hearing her words "We'll figure it out" had long since left, to be replaced by heartache, anger and though he hated to say it, doubt. She turned to face him and despite the fact Deeks knew what he would find there, his heart dropped. He watched silently as she swallowed the lump in her throat. Her eyes shining with unshed tears. As she opened her mouth to speak he stepped forward, gathering her in his arms and kissing her before she could utter one word. He felt her gasp. She put her hands to his chest and he waited for her to push him away, instead she grasped at the front of his shirt. He put all that he couldn't say into the kiss. He allowed himself to get lost in the contours of her mouth. Memorising her lips on his, her hands now in his unruly hair and the feel of her pressed flush against him. They pulled apart but he kept his gaze on her mismatched brown eyes which were now wide with confusion, uncertainty and sadness.
"Deeks-"
He looked down and stepped back. "I know."
"I can't- just not right now- " She looked at her hands and back up into his face. "It's just everything is so messed up."
He looked up to see her watching him. For once, he let all the hurt and his own sadness show. "I know." He waited for her to continue but she didn't.
He let out a deep breath and ran his hand through his hair. He had to get out of here. "I'll see you tomorrow, partner." He gave her a weak smile. For now, they both had their own demons to battle.
She nodded her head as he turned and walked away leaving her alone. She let out a quiet sob and raised a hand to her swollen lips.
"I love you. I'll wait for you. We'll figure this out."
Repeat after me: It's a love story. Review time!
