Chapter 14
"A life without laugh is boring."-Undertaker

Just when the twins thought not getting a decent amount of sleep was not good; they just had to get in trouble for knowing that it was Monday morning which meant morning assembly.

The day after tomorrow was their birthday so they had a tight schedule.

The twins got in trouble when Miku slept in the tub and Luka slept till first period. Both accounts considered as an accident.

Miku shot out from the tub when she heard Luka shriek from the other room.

"Miku! We're late!" Luka said who managed to take a shower and dress up decently.

"Crap!" Miku said and picked out a skirt, a white blouse and a hoodie out of the closet and a pair of sneakers from Luka's shoe collection and grabbed her bag before they bolted out of their rooms to the car and let the driver step on it.

Sadly, they arrived after the morning ceremonies, earning heap loads of sermons from their advisers and now they were sent to detention together. Well, the detention room is pretty much an empty classroom with a few tables and some reminders written at the board for those who need to be reminded.

Miku slacked off by the tables and slept, leaving Luka uncomfortable somewhere in the room. They were both sent in the same room for the same reason which never happened since the fight they had in seventh grade about the existence of other planets aside from those qualified to be in the solar system.

With what happened yesterday night, they would have a lot to talk about but Miku was acting like nothing happened yesterday but she knew better than to think about it. She had to remove the 'poison' from her and that was the reason why she had to do it.

"Hey Miku." Luka finally found the courage to talk to lift the deafening silence in the room. She was thinking the same thing with Miku's thoughts. Twins.

"Luka, look." Miku looked at her with apologetic eyes of hers that made Luka's heart jump to a few beats and died down when the tealette decided to look away from the disturbing blue oceanic eyes of Luka. "I did what I had to. That guy was too much for us to handle. That or you couldn't be standing right where you are. Desperate times call for desperate measures." Miku continued and looked out of the window.

Luka wanted to believe that it was all there was but why did Miku do it? Besides being sisters, they were archenemies. Up until now, they still haven't been able to resolve that matter. They had so much to do to get along like normal siblings.

If they were anywhere normal.

"Miku, you don't have to regret anything. It wasn't your fault that you had to do such actions. Besides, if I were in your situation, I'd probably do the same." Luka told her and placed her hand over the girl's shoulder.

"No, you won't. You could have left me and tried to kill the guy. You are not too hard to read. You would have left me to die." Miku refused to believe the words of Luka. It seemed so surreal that her enemy would actually try to save her.

Luka looked at her with disbelief and met with Miku's eyes which had a confused and hard look on it.

"Wha-You don't trust that I won't save your life? What do I have to do to prove to you that I would save you from anything just because you really are my sibling, Hatsune?" Luka demanded her answer. Miku looked at her with disdain.

"Nothing. I can't trust someone so fast like you can. Even if the records do say that we are siblings, that doesn't mean I can fully accept you as my own blood and flesh. How can I even reassure that you won't turn against me when I need you most, Megurine?" Miku asked.

Luka knew the girl had a point. It wasn't going to be easy winning each other's trust. They had a long way if they want to fix the huge riff in between them.

"Then let's start by keeping this whole sibling thing from the whole school." Luka told her and turned away. As much as she is really happy to find Miku as her sibling, Luka was afraid of what the student body would say. She has an image to uphold.

"Even with selfish reasons, I suppose we should. This isn't going to be any easier if the news spilled." Miku told her and stood up from her chair.

"Then what are we supposed to do? Still put up the act that we are not related and we still hate each other?" Luka asked.

"Yes, Captain Obvious. That's the best we could do to hide all this mess." Miku told her and opened the classroom window to let some fresh air in.

"Well, what can I do to fix this whole sibling-rivalry thingy?" Luka asked and joined her by the window.

Miku looked at Luka and stared back at the vast blue sky.

"We'll soon know. For now, let's try to keep this thing secret. We can stop fighting for all petty things." Miku told her and closed her eyes to remove all her worries as she listened to the howling of the wind at her ears. Luka did the same until detention was over.

….Detention: Over…

Miku and Luka got over the hours they spent silently in the room until one of the teachers told them that they were free to leave because they weren't much a trouble maker. Besides, they were just late.

It was half past noon when they arrived the cafeteria where both took separate ways and bought their own food and ate with a different spot, so far and the opposite of each other. The students who watched were just wondering silently what in the world happened to have the two top girls of the academy to have a detention.

It was a hard decision they made up and they had to take into account what in the world would happen if they ever associated in front of the whole student body.

When Rin arrived, both of them were thankful. Someone was there to help them break the ice…

"Hey Luka." Rin faced and smiled at the pink haired girl who, in common courtesy, smiled back.

"Hey Miku." Rin faced her and smiled but Miku shot a look of help rather than a greeting so Rin thought that it was better if she sat next to Miku. Luka didn't seem to mind because she was busy scrolling up and down her playlist.

Miku looked at Rin's eyes for help. She knew what she suggested and just did in the detention room was completely wrong. It was going to make a riff much larger than the one there was ever present.

Rin watched at Miku pressed her lips in a thin line of confusion.

"Miku, what happened?" Rin asked. She watched as Miku shot Luka a look of concern before she looked back at Rin with her eyes. No words needed. Miku was afraid and at the same time confused.

"I—Luka…we…" Miku can't take the words out. She can't even if it was going to save her from the brink of death.

"Miku, you have to fix it. Whatever issue you two have, it should be fixed." Rin suggested as if she was a guidance counselor.

"Rin, that's the thing. With us being friendly, that would make the whole school completely…intrigued." Miku shook her head. "Everyone would probably be snooping around who we really are." Miku replied and looked at her friend. "I'll have to fix that on my own." She told herself.

"You better." Rin agreed.

"Well, why are you here again? For all I know, you don't really appear unless you have some kind of message of question. You appear for a reason here, Kagamine." Miku noted.

Rin sighed and shrugged. "I suppose I do but you better not jump off for the thing I'm about to say." Rin told her and pouted at Miku. She was suicidal before. She can do it before, she can do it again.

"I won't." The tealette reassured and smiled at Rin—a sad one.

"Well, your parents are in the hospital. Both dropped unconscious while they were in a conference." Rin told Miku who had her eyes wide as diner plates.

No other words needed.

Miku grabbed Rin and Luka and bolted to the car where they drove away.
