Chapter Nine

By LoveMeNever

The sea was calm today, Lucia noticed, she wished she could step on the deck of the ship and see it for herself. It felt like ages since she was on the open sea. Her father put her in the cellars at the bottom of the ship with Oslon guards watching her very carefully.

Like she was going to be able to try something with a broken wrist and zero energy? The former captain felt so degraded.

And imagine her surprise when Elsa, of all people, waltzed on the ship declaring she was coming with them. Lucia was beyond shocked. When her father informed her later that day that the reason Elsa was coming was to, in his words, "Save your filthy life." Lucia couldn't wrap her head around why she would do that.

The only thing Lucia had done was lie to her and attempt to steal from her, she was definitely not worthy for the queen to save.

The ship rocked gently and the former captain missed the feeling from being on land for the past week. Nothing beat sailing. A captain always felt at ease on the sea and in Lucia's opinion, a captain should always go down with his/her ship. To bad the Savage Queen was likely half way to the other end of the world by now.

A hatch swung open from the upper deck and heavy footsteps came down the stairs, the mans name was Dylan, he brought her food earlier when they first arrived on the ship. It had been a good four hours since then so she guessed it was time for her next meal.

He was missing teeth so when he grinned it would give anyone the creeps, he had a tray in his hands, on it was simply a piece of moldy looking bread and a steel cup. "Here's your food."

Lucia's mouth twitched down because he knew she was unable to move due to the shackles that were locked around a hook in the middle of the cell. She could move to the wooden bed but not close enough to the cage bars. So she just sat on the bed with her back leaned up against the ship and her legs dangling off the side of the bed.

Dylan smirked and took the bread off the tray throwing it between the bars and splashing the water in the cage. The guards laughed with him while he left the room. The hatch shut loudly.

'If only I wasn't in this cage.' Lucia's jaw locked. She wasn't hungry anyways. 'Hopefully, Elsa is being treated well.'

Lucia had overheard that the royal guards came on board the ship with Elsa so she would be safe. Plus, she had her ice powers to protect her.

'Huh. Listen to me worrying maybe I have gone soft.' That was not a particularly pleasant thought.

Elsa was given the captain's quarters as her room and she had to admit the room was impressive. It was much larger than that of Lucia's and the bed was much more soft. Not that she had actually felt Lucia's bed, it had just looked uncomfortable.

It made her wonder how the captain got any sleep to begin with.

These quarters, unlike Lucia's, was much blander. There weren't any decorations besides the bedspread and even that was bland, it was solid navy blue with a few pillows to add some extra color.

When she got on the ship she watched with awe as the crew began to set sail but soon after she got a little seasick and went into the quarters. Her guards were stationed outside the door and they made sure to watch the Oslon crew carefully.

A knock came at the door then one of her guards said, "Queen Elsa, would you like something to eat? The chef has prepared a meal for you." as if answering him, her stomach growled.

"Yes, bring it in please." Elsa got off the bed and went over to the desk where she sat down while the chef brought in a cart on wheels. On it were elegant plates and elegant food to match it. "Thank you, Chef."

"It is my pleasure, Your Majesty!" The chef left the room with a bow.

Once he was gone and the door shut, Elsa dug into the food without her usual proper etiquette at all. She was way to hungry for proper actions and besides she was alone so it didn't matter.

After the food had been completely devoured Elsa got used to the swaying motion of the ship and found it much easier to stand and walk. Admittedly, she had practiced walking around in the room before heading out to the deck. The layout of the ship was very similar to Lucia's ship so she knew where everything should be.

Two guards stayed with her the entire time, escorting her everywhere, they followed closely behind as Elsa walked up to the top deck where Duke Alexander was going over maps with another sailor. Elsa was wearing her ice dress so she had to pick it up to avoid tripping. Clearly, she did not plan her attire for this trip well enough.

"Your Majesty, I hope the captain's quarters are up to your standard." Alexander smiled when he saw her approach.

"It's fine, thank you for letting me use it. How long should it take to reach Oslon?" She asked.

"If the weather stays this nice then two days. If we happen upon rough waves and storms then three to four days. Captain Hollis says the weather seems perfect for sailing so storms are highly unlikely." Alexander motioned to the sailor he had been going over the maps with, apparently he was the captain.

Elsa smiled at him as he bowed and introduced himself properly. "I am Joseph Hollis the Captain of this vessel. It is a great honor and pleasure to have you on board, Your Majesty."

"The pleasure is mine. I've never been sailing and your ship is quite impressive! I'm only sorry I took your Captain's quarters away from you."

"It is no trouble at all!" The captain returned to viewing the maps.

Elsa retreated down the stairs and let her guard open the hatch to the lower deck for her, the staircase was the same size as the Savage Queen's and it appeared to have three levels. She knew Lucia was being held in cellars at the lowest level, Alexander told her as much.

If they were going to be on the same ship Elsa thought she might as well see the only other woman on board.

They descended down another hatch that lead to the cellar. This part of the ship was significantly smaller than the rest. Two of Oslon's guards were standing in front of the caged cell where Lucia was currently residing.

Elsa marveled at how relaxed the captain looked. She was seated on the wooden bed with her legs hanging over the edge and her back was against the ship wall, her eyes were closed and arms rested in her lap. Broken wrist laid carefully in the palm of her other hand.

"Lucia?" Elsa called, still at the base of the stairs. She wanted to make sure the other woman was awake before she fully entered the room.

The captain's blue eyes opened and found Elsa's. They almost immediately lightened up a touch making Elsa feel warm and fuzzy that she was the cause. Or maybe Lucia was just happy to see someone other than guards and her father.

"I'm surprised." Lucia sat up straighter as Elsa came closer to the cage. The guards warned her not to get to close. "What? It's not like I can do anything like this." Lucia growled at them and tugged her feet against the shackles to prove her inability to move.

Elsa noticed the molded bread and cup in the cell. The cups contents spilled all over the floor, "Not thirsty?" She asked the captain.

"Oh that. Must have tipped over with the ship rocking." Lucia looked away from Elsa, who could tell there was more to that story. "This is your first time sailing right?"

She was surprised Lucia had actually remembered and bothered to ask. "Yes. It's amazing, I see why you love it so much."

Lucia laughed, "And you've got good sea legs I see! Most people are all over the place with their first time."

"I suppose it's from being on ice so much." Elsa answered simply, she wanted to smile but she couldn't let herself be so casual with the captain. The feelings she felt before could not come back. 'No matter how much I wish I could just forget everything that happened.' She thought sadly.

Her serious face caused for Lucia's to become that way as well, only momentarily though because the captain couldn't stay serious for five seconds. "I hear you're hell-bent on saving my life, eh?"

Elsa blushed, when she put it that way it seemed... well, more affectionate? She wasn't sure what the right word would be. "Despite everything, I don't think you deserve to die."

The captain's eyes sparkled but it disappeared quickly. "I half-expected that you would want to hang me yourself." She smirked.

'The thought crossed my mind.'

Apparently, Lucia could read her mind, or maybe she gave the captain a face, because she started smiling and laughing. "I tend to get that reaction a lot." She said in between laughter.

Quickly, Elsa tried to hide her emotions but the bars on the cell started to frost over. The two Oslon guards gave her wary glances. Her royal guards stood protectively beside Elsa making sure the other men didn't try anything.

The tension in the room was unbelievably high.

Lucia just watched Elsa with a curious gleam in her eyes. That only ticked the queen off more, seriously was Lucia enjoying this? Elsa rubbed her hands together, despite being mostly in control she was still scared that she might accidentally let her powers slip. She promised Anna she'd be careful and ice on a ship was probably not the best combination.

Lucia shifted and the Oslon guards immediately yelled at her not to move, Elsa jumped at the sudden yelling.

"Relax boys, I'm caged up. No need to impale me." There was a dangerous and amused look in the captain's eyes that Elsa was not familiar with. Of course, there was definitely a limit to what Elsa actually knew about the captain.

"You look tired, Your Majesty." Lucia's eyes soften and she had the smallest of smiles on her lips.

'Two can play at your game, Captain.' Elsa changed her tune and raised an eyebrow. "Worried about my well being, are you?"

She smirked in triumph when Lucia scoffed but the faintest shade of pink tinted her cheeks. At least Elsa managed to get a physical reaction from the captain, feeling satisfied with herself Elsa turned on her heel and left the cellars after it was clear Lucia wasn't going to respond.

Back in her cabin, Elsa ran a hand through her hair, she had to exhale the breath she did not realize she held. Being around the captain still effected her in a pleasant but always frustrating way. She loved it and she hated it. That was the only way to describe it.

'Please, you know you still like her! Your just afraid.' A voice told her, Elsa huffed at it, there was no way she was ever going to admit she felt... something, towards the captain.

She fell into bed and closed her eyes, the feeling of the ship rocking was actually kind of soothing.

Below decks Lucia bounced her leg in annoyance and impatience, she hated to wait, being cooped up on this ship awaiting whatever punishment she was going to receive was terrible. Terrible and terrifying, though she would never admit that out loud.

'The fearsome Captain Lucia of the Savage Queen...' She chuckled silently, 'Defeated by her old man and gone soft for a Queen.'

"What are you smiling about?" Her father's voice suddenly broke her thoughts.

She glared at him, it always bothered her to no end that he could sneak up on her and take her by surprise. Even when she was nothing but a young girl.

"Not very chatty? It appears you've lucked out with the Queen coming aboard, tell me... what did you say to her? She's so very suspicious of me all of the sudden." His smirk replaced with a disapproving frown.

"I told her the truth." Lucia waved her hand dismissively.

Alexander's face twisted in confusion but Lucia didn't believe it was genuine. "The truth? Darling, I'm always truthful, it is you who lives in lies."

Lucia turned her face away from him knowing he was trying to provoke a rise, she was not going to play his game. "I learned from the best." She snapped before quickly adding, "And I know what you're up too. Elsa isn't going to fall for your tricks, father."

Actually, Lucia had no idea what her father was up to but her gut told her it wasn't anything especially good. Her gut was usually right when it came to this man. She believed Elsa to be quite smart and powerful with her ice so she had faith the young queen would not fall for any of her father's attempts at whatever he was plotting.

"My dear, you've always been paranoid but this? I'm not up to anything other than making sure justice is served." He smiled at her and left the cellar.

Justice is served? Where is the justice in killing your own daughter? She frowned.

The ship continued to rock softly against the calm sea, Lucia tried her luck at sleeping. The bed had chains linked to the wall of the ship to keep it steady but it had nearly fallen off when Lucia positioned herself awkwardly in a semi-laying position with her legs still hanging off the platform. She slipped an arm under her head to support herself. The Oslon guards watched her with amused expressions.

"Yes, I'm sure this looks quite ridiculous but don't you gents have anything better to stare at?"

"Definitely not." The guard stationed on the right said, he eyed her up and down, Lucia swore she saw drool seeping out of his partly open mouth. Disgusting.

They continued to ogle her but she ignored them to the best of her ability. She closed her eyes. Darkness had almost completely taken her when a boom erupted and the ship jerked hard, causing the former captain to fall off the wooden platform. She groaned, her wrist was painfully bent when she fell.

The guards gripped the cage bars for dear life as the ship jerked again.

The thundering boom ripped above decks again and shouting could be heard. We must have hit a storm.

Lucia listened carefully for wind or waves crashing but none of that could be heard. She thought the crash had been thunder but realized it was not. She would recognize that sound anywhere, canon fire.
