Chapter 6: Is This How Honour Dies?
"Nooooooo!"
Leo screamed at the top of his lungs as Karai thrust her blades down
"NO! NO!...What?"
Leo gasped as Karai's blades impaled the ground beside his father's head, missing him by less then an inch. Leo was absolutely baffled by this as he stood there frozen, watching Karai as she took a long breath before pulling the half conscious rat to his feet.
Splinter was then tossed into a group of five Foot ninja, who quickly bound him with rope. The Foot ninja keeping back Mikey, Don, and Raph retreated and regrouped by their master's side. Leo bolted towards Karai, with the others close behind.
"Stop where you are!" Karai demanded as she flashed her arm in font of the trapped Splinter, holding her gauntlet blades to his throat.
"Take once more step, and I'll slay the pathetic rodent you all call your father"
The turtles stopped abruptly
"You don't want to do this Karai" Leo yelled
"Let him go!" Raph spat "and if you dare harm one hair on masta' Splinter's body I'll break every bone in your body!"
"I'm the one in charge here" Karai called back "Now toss your weapons over here"
"No, my sons don't" Splinter called out weakly
His brothers watched as he hung his head
"I'm sorry father" Leo replied before tossed his katanas. They skidded and landed at Karai's feet.
His brothers were surprised and looked at him for some sort of signal, but Leo gave them none. After a short pause they too tossed their weapons over to Karai
"Good boys," Karai snickered
"If it's me you want, then let's not waste any time" Leo grunted
"Just take me"
"Leo no!" Raph yelled as he grabbed Leo's shoulder
"You can't do that bro" Mikey cried
"You can all quit the whining" Karai snapped as she looked directly at Leo
"If I wanted you, I would have already captured you"
"So what do you what then?" Leo asked
"Ill do anything you want"
"Anything?" Karai mused
"Yes anything," Leo replied.
"As long as it does not involve harming one of my brothers"
"Well how kind of you" Karai snickered,
"It just so happens that I do have something I would like you to do"
"What is it?" Leo asked in a demanding tone
"Well you see, I have a little job for you"
"A job for us?" Mikey gulped "I don't like the sound of that"
"What kind of job?" Leo asked as he gridded his teeth.
"There is a load of cargo I want" Karai said. "It's very important to an associate of mine, and could be very valuable if I could get my hands on it.
"Sounds easy," Don said as he stepped forward.
"So what's the catch?"
"Well…" Karai continued
"The problem is the cargo happens to belong to Agent Bishop. Now naturally if he caught the Foot stealing from him, it would not be long before him and the United States government were knocking on my door. Now if you stole from him, what's he going to tell them, that his train was robbed by a group of mutant turtles, no he will have to make some sort of cover story."
"You gotta be crazy if you think were gonna do your dirty work!" Raph burst out
"You stole from me by the order of Agent Bishop, now to repay your atrocity and save your father; you now must steal from Agent Bishop for me" Karai replied
"What if we don't like your offer?" Leo grunted, even though he knew the answer
"If you don't do as I ask I will kill your father right now in front of you, and you will watch as his blood spills onto this rooftop and for the rest of your life, live knowing you could have saved him," Karai stated
"Now what's it gonna be Leonardo? Break your silly code? Or lose your beloved father? Take your pick"
"My sons, do not listen to her, saving me is not worth putting your lives at risk!"
"I want the cargo brought to the helicopter pad at Foot headquarters, there it will be handed over and I will give you the rat back.
Splinter called. "She will kill me anyway, and I would rather die with honour and know my sons are safe, then have them steal like criminals and have my demise be in vein"
"No one is going to die father, I promise" Leo said.
"We will do it Karai, but I swear, I sincerely swear that if you try to go back on your word there is no place you will be able to hid that will be safe from me"
"You expect such terrible things from me Leonardo" Karai mused. "I will give your father back, in healthy condition"
"My sons, do not fall for her lies" Splinter yelled
"Silence!" She yelled as she forced her blades against Splinter's throat
"Leo you can't actually think for a minute that we can believe her" Raph yelled
"And what's going to keep her from taking us out after we have dropped her cargo off?" Don added
"So you all want reassurance, is that it?" Karai asked
She thought hard for a moment. She had a rare opportunity and she did not want to waste it, she had a plan to stick to, and she had to do it by any means necessary.
"I have something to add to the deal," Karai said slowly.
"You do as I ask, you retrieve the cargo I desire and hand it over without any struggle, I will not only give your father back, but I will leave New York, forever!"
This stuck in Leo's mind. He didn't believe Karai for a second, but after the battle they had just had, maybe, just maybe she was ready to let everything go, he knew from personal experience that intense combat did strange things to people.
"Ill take it" Leo said as he looked at Karai, almost feeling to ashamed to lock eyes with his father, or brothers. His brothers stayed silent as his sensei tried to reason with him.
"Leonardo you mustn't!" Splinter pleaded "I beg you, do not drag your brothers into a trap, and lower yourself to the standards of this monster, just to save me."
"They don't have to go with me," Leo replied "And I hate dishonouring my family, but I made a promise to myself, that I would never let Karai hurt anyone in my family ever again."
"How honourable of you" Karai mocked before tossing a cell phone over to Leo. "Take this, I will you further instructions tomorrow about what the cargo looks like after I find out"
"Leonardo no!" Splinter yelled as the Foot Ninjas began to carry him off.
"I ask you, I forbid you, do not do this!"
Karai backed up slowly with her arm blades to Splinter's throat till they reached the edge of the building. The Foot ninjas grabbed Splinter and jumped off the building. Karai quickly followed them. The turtles could do nothing but watch their father be taken away. Leo just stared into the horizon, he showed no emotion. Raph turned to Leo, he was so angry he was almost ready to slap his older brother up side the head.
"Are you nuts Leo" he yelled "Like do ya actually believe the rest of us to go along with this?"
"I don't believe her for a second Raph, but what other choice did we have?" Leo shot back "She has Sensei!"
"So instead of thinking of a plan to save him, we are robbing a train for the Foot!" Raph yelled
"First a deal with Bishop, now Karai, when will you be done with the damn deals Leo!?"
Leo turned and yelled in Raph's face
"When Master Splinter is safe!, If we even come within a hundred feet of Foot headquarters without the cargo Karai will kill him Raph, KILL; do you understand what I'm saying?"
"I wish there was another way, but there isent! It's our only option. Yes it's dishonourable, but think, Karai said she would leave New York, out of our lives forever. Imagine being able to live freely and not having to look over our shoulder for the Foot."
"That's all fine and dandy Leo," Raph replied. "But what if Karai decides to change up her plans, we could never take her word before, and I'm sure as shell not lettin' father die in vein!"
"Raph if Karai goes back on her word I promise you that it will be the last thing she will ever do. I swear on Master Splinter's life that I will kill her and nothing will be able to stop me. But until then, I'm sticking to the plan, I'm not gonna let anyone die tonight!"
Leo turned to leave
"Where are you goin'?"
"Going back to the layer to grab some gear, then I'm heading out, if you think the idea is so bad then you can stay here."
"Were not lettin' you go alone bro, your gonna need backup"
'So it's agreed then, were all in this together"
His brothers nodded.
Meanwhile in Foot tower, the door of an elevator opened revealing Karai, the Foot Elite, and several Foot ninjas who held Splinter. They walked out and into a dimly lit hallway as the elevator door closed behind them.
"You will not get away with this," Splinter said
"Oh don't be foolish," Karai laughed.
"We both know your sons will do exactly as I ask"
Splinter tried to squirm free of the ropes that trapped him, but it had no effect.
"That may be, but you cannot fool them with your lies, let alone me." Splinter said
"What reason do you have to make such a deal? What are you really up to?"
"Like I said, the cargo would be very helpful to an associate of mine; and it would be very beneficial if I could get my hands on it"
"But why agree to leave the city forever? The ease in which you negotiated, it seemed like this was all part of your plan"
"I see nothing gets by you," Karai replied
"Your right, it is. After what happened tonight, I realize that I will never get anywhere, or do the things I want to do as long as I inhabit the same city as you, and frankly; trying to destroy you takes up too much of my time. So when you're pesky, but useful sons bring Bishop's cargo to me; I will travel far away and start and new empire someplace else; free of giant rodents and meddling mutant turtles."
Splinter began to ponder as Karai turned to leave. She pointed to the Elite guards
"You four stay here and if he so much as squirms in his ropes, you give me a call"
She left the Elites and walked back towards the elevator. Splinter was puzzled, he could sense that Karai was actually telling the truth. Although he also sensed that there was more she was still hiding.
Karai entered the elevator, the door shut behind her as she scanned the floor numbers for a brief moment before she selected floor seventy two. She felt the elevator move as it climbed higher, floor by floor. She smiled and her confidence showed as she thought. Her plan was going perfectly, and the only downside being that the turtles may never know the best part of her plan; that she was playing them.
It was not an accident that the turtles stumbled upon her Elite guards roaming the roof tops; she had sent them out every three days at the same time to do the same routine. She knew eventually that the turtles would spot them and investigate. Then as she planned the Elite would return to the same spot several hours later to fake a business deal with some of her security guards who she had hired to go undercover. Except this time, she and a small army of foot soldiers would be waiting in an ambush. For weeks nothing had come up, but finally her patience had paid off.
All she had to do from there was take a hostage; although she had not expected it to be Splinter, it would not change the plan. The turtles were predictable and she knew there sense of value for family would make them her little green puppets. Soon Bishop's high tech equipment would be in her hands and she could precede to the next stage.
The elevator door opened revealing a stone room, home of the Foot Mystics. As she entered the Mystics came to life from there statues and advanced towards her.
"The turtles took the bait," She smirked. "Its now time for stage three"
"Yes Mistress," the Water Mystic replied.
He suddenly shape shifted into the hooded figure and turned around, with a wave of his hand a green pool appeared in front of him. Then in the pool an image appeared of Baxter stockman in his skinny robot body; he was working on something at a lab table.
In the lab Stockman was just adding some finishing touches to an experiment when he heard an eerie voice behind him.
"I wish to speak to Agent Bishop," the Water Mystic/Hooded Figure called as he appeared on the large TV screen behind stockman.
Stockman jumped as he turned around
"Sir, you may want to come in here," Stockman spoke into a microphone.
After a short moment the large door to the lab opened as Bishop walked in.
"What is it now Stockman?" Bishop demanded, he was about to say more but stopped when he noticed the hooded figure on the screen.
"Well it's about time," Bishop called. "It's been over two weeks and I was beginning to wonder if you had forgotten about me"
"Oh we did not forget about you Bishop," the Water Mystic mused. "Now are you still interested in the item that the leader of the Foot possesses?"
"Of course," Bishop replied. "But if you're looking for someone to fetch it, I'm afraid you are out of luck"
"What we ask this time is more of a contribution, opposed to manual labour"
"What kind of contribution?" Bishop inquired.
"Well we have contacted a group that is willing to fetch it for us as well as a few people inside the Foot operations. They were successful, unfortunately their greed has gotten the best of them and they demand more then our original offer. We said we could get them anything they wanted. What they asked for happens to be something in your field of expertise."
"Which is?"
"They demand something that you may know as package H223T8R5"
Bishop gasped.
Package H223T8R5 was the code for a container he had put in the Pentagon for safe keeping. The container was full of pieces to a Tricaraton spacecraft that was found at the bottom of a river in New York a while after the invasion.
"So you expect me to hand over my most top secret experiment to a gang of thugs just so I can have access to some artefact that I was told about from a guy wearing a hood on a Tv screen?"
"Well naturally we wouldn't expect you to hand it over." Now the group is nothing but mercenaries, dangerous, but not a big threat. Your men could easily dispose of them without losing your cargo. Then you will have your hands on an artefact that will change the world."
Bishop wasn't stupid, he knew something was not right, although he could not shake the feeling of desire he had for possessing an item that would 'change the world'. Plus, this being in the hood and all the running around was starting to get on his nerves. He was determined to get to the bottom of this mystery.
"Alright, it's a deal, now where do I need to take the cargo?"
"Take it by train to an abandoned station by the boundaries of New York State tomorrow night, there you will find the mercenaries waiting. Contact us when your men have taken them out and retrieved the artefact."
With that the hooded figure disappeared.
"Are you sure we can trust them?" Stockman said.
"No," Bishop replied. "That's why an entire squad of helicopters and ground vehicles will be escorting us, and to make sure nothing goes wrong you I will be aboard the train."
"What?" Stockman said in surprise
"I have a new robot body for you to assist with the journey," Bishop said
"I'm sure you will find it more useful then your current; feeble state" he remarked
The Water Mystic looked on for a moment before changing back to his regular form, he then turned to Karai.
"Stage three complete"
The turtles sat in the lair, trying to stay focused, but all they could think about was their father. Raph kicked away at his punching bag, imagining every blow was being delivered straight to Karai's face. Don sat in his lab tinkering with a device while Mikey sat at the dinner table petting Klunk. Klunk mewed softly as Mikey ran his hand threw the cat's fur. Leo sat on the floor in the corner; meditating. He was trying to block out his frustration with Karai and the worry he felt for his father. His mind was racing.
'So this is how honour dies? At the hands of an enemy when they have you in the palm on there hand, at your only pressure point. When they have you so desperate you will do what ever they ask like a puppy looking to please its owner.'
Leo hated what he was doing, and he felt awful but he knew it was his only hope, he just prayed that Karai would hold up her end.
He was suddenly jolted out of meditation by a loud buzzing noise. Leo's eyes shot open and his pupils darted too the phone Karai had given him that sat several feet away. The lair went silent as everyone waited in a worried anticipation. Leo picked up the phone and quickly read the message he had been sent.
"Karai says the train we be transporting the cargo tomorrow night along the state line, and that it must be delivered by five o' clock the next morning. It will be the twelfth car from the front and will weigh approximately twenty five thousand pounds."
"Alright that's good," Don replied. "With the new modifications I made on the helicopter, it will be able to handle the weight."
"But its not going to be easy," Leo continued as he kept reading
"The train will be escorted by a squad of helicopters and ground vehicles"
"Oh shell," Mikey murmured
"Did she say anything else?" Raph inquired as he narrowed his look at Leo.
"Yeah," Leo replied after a long breath.
Don't try any games"
Raph's anger flared.
"Oh I'm not planning any games," he scowled. "Just a good old fashion foot upside da head; that should do fine."
"Easy Raph," Leo said. Remember we all agreed to stick to the plan unless Karai gives us a reason not to"
"Don't remind me," Raph shot back. "This still doesn't feel right."
"I know," Leo said sombrely as he nodded. He then turned to Don and Mikey
"Mikey, call up April, Casey, and Leatherhead; were going to need all the help we can get."
"Sounds good to me Leo," Mikey replied.
"But what's the plan? Are we just gonna jump on to Bishop's train and be like, yo Karai has our Sensei, so were gonna have to borrow some of your toys so we can make a trade. And how are we going to get past the ground vehicles? Or the Helicopters?"
"Well there is something I have been working on that might help," Don cut in as he made his way to his lab. He walked over to a table that had some sort of large object under a white sheet.
He yanked the sheet off, revealing a weapon, which looked like a purple and green cannon that was just over half the size of Don.
"It's an EMP cannon that can be mounted on the helicopter" Don said as he beamed proudly
"In english," Raph demanded
"Electro Magnetic Pulse," Don responded
"If I hit one any of the helicopters with an electromagnetic pulse, not only will it shut down and crash, but it will sort out there communication system. So not only will we be able to take out the helicopters without drawing attention due an obvious out of place explosion in the sky. But we will also be able to keep them from calling for backup."
"But what about the ground vehicles?" Mikey asked
"That's going to be a different story," Don answered
"I only have so much charge in the cannon, so we will have to blow them up,"
"Guys," Leo cut in
"I'm…I'm really sorry for dragging everyone into this. I really hate what here doing, I feel so terrible. But was scared and I couldn't think of another way."
"You're not dragging us into anything Leo," Don stated
"Like you, we will do whatever it takes to get Master Splinter back,"
"I don't like the plan, but you were right about what you said, it's the best option we got," Raph added
"So what's next," Mikey asked
"Now…" Leo instructed
"Now we put our heads together"
AND THE PLOT THICKENS! Haha it feels good to get this finally posted. Well Bishop wont let his cargo go without a fight, expect some more fancy moves from him in the next chapter. See Ya'all soon!
