Ch. 5: Daddy Issues

Lindsay nodded, picking up her phone, but didn't speak.

"Lindsay? You there? I... Ashley told me about the baby..." her boyfriend said.

Lindsay nodded. "Yeah? And?"

"And?! You weren't going to tell me?"

She scoffed. "Well, forgive me, but after sleeping with my best friend, I didn't think you would care."

"It's our baby, Linds, of course I care. I made a massive mistake and I'm sorry."

"You expect me to forgive you?"

"I dont know, but you just cleared off without a word. I mean, are you ok?"

Linjdsay sighed. "Derek...I'm going to be fine. I'm at my moms'. They've offered me a room and are going to remove the doors from the closet to make a nursery."

"I... I'll come."

"Why? I'm not letting you stay. Who's to say you won't replace me again?"

"But, I... it's my baby too."

Lindsay nodded. "Yes, that's true. And I'll let you be involved. But the child's main housing will be with me. I can't trust you."

"I need to talk to my parents. I'll call you tomorrow."

"If you do show up, don't expect a warm welcome."

"I'm really sorry, Linds," he said softly before hanging up.

Lindsay sighed, hanging up and walking out into the kitchen.

"Everything ok honey?" Catherine asked watching her.

Lindsay shook her head. "Derek just called. Boyfriend. He wondered if I was ok."

Catherine wrapped an arm around Lindsay."Well, I hope he's not planning on turning up here."

"That's what I told him, but I also said, after the baby is born, he could be involved somewhat."

"How do you feel about that?"

"I, honestly, don't want him involved to be with me, but, if he wants to try to be a dad, who am I to deny him that?"

"That's a very mature decision, Lindsay," Catherine smiled, kissing her cheek as the doorbell rang.

Lindsay sighed, sitting at the kitchen table.

"I'll get it," Sara said, answering the door.

"Hi, is Lindsay in?" A young man from Lindsay's course asked.

Sara bit her lip, stepping aside. "Yes, can I ask what this is about?"

"She left class earlier. I just came to make sure she's ok," he replied, entering the hall.

The brunette nodded, closing the door.

Ben smiled politely, following the sound of Lindsay's voice. "Hi Lindsay," he smiled from the doorway.

Lindsay smiled. "Hi Ben, how are you?"

"Worried about you. You weren't in classes this afternoon," he said, walking over to her as Catherine slipped out of the room.

"I just wasn't feeing well."

"Is the baby ok?" He asked, sitting next to her.

Lindsay nodded. "Yes, but I've just been so sick."

"I got you this," he said, handing Lindsay a teddy and some plain biscuits, "The biscuits are for the sickness and the teddy is for the baby. I know it's ages until it'll be born but..."

Lindsay smiled. "Thank you. It's so cute!"

Ben smiled, placing a folder on the table. "You're welcome. And I copied all my notes for you so you won't fall behind."

"Thank you."

"I... I should go. Let you rest."

Lindsay smiled. "Stop by again."

Ben nodded as he stood, the hesitated before kissing Lindsay's cheek as he left.

Lindsay smiled wider, blushing. "You can come back in now."

Catherine and Sara both smiled as they reentered. "Cute teddy."

"He said it was for the baby. And he brought biscuts for me," she said, blushing deeper.

Sara smiled, sitting next to her. "That was nice of him."

"Yeah," Lindsay smiled. "Can I have some food now Mom?"

Sara looked at Catherine. "Looks like the food's about ready."

Lindsay smiled, cuddling the teddy close as Catherine placed food on the table. "Thanks, Mom," she said.

"You're welcome," Catherine smiled, kissing Lindsay's head.

Sara smiled, dishing up her plate. "You like him, don't you?"

Lindsay blushed again. "Yeah, he's hot."

"I only asked because you were blushing. He seems like a good guy," the brunette commented between bites.

Lindsay nodded. "He is. He came round because he was worried about me, and the baby."

"Sounds better than Daddy, but I've only met one, so I suppose I can't really judge," Sara said.

"Oh, he is! I don't know what I ever saw in Derek."
