A/N: It's always seemed strange to me that Merry was unable to look at Pippin after the thing with Palantir. You would think that as his best friend he would be there. But then I thought, maybe it's a little more complex then that. This is the result.
Disclaimer: J.R.R. Tolkien (my hero and the best author I've ever read) owns Merry the character this poem is talking about (the I), and Pippin (the him). I own nothing of Middle Earth, and never will despite my wishes. I am making no money off this, I don't wish too because the characters aren't mine. I do wish only to use them, and imitate the writings of this genius man because imitation is the sincerist form of flattery, as the saying goes.
Summery: A poem, written by Merry, after the insident with Pippin and Palantir. Cute Merry and Pippin friendship.
I couldn't
By: PTB
I failed in my duty, my service to kin
I tried, but I could not, protect him.
Innoccent hearts have been broken.
Because I couldn't keep him.
His eyes have seen things of the night.
Have forever lost their radient light.
He almost lost the will to fight.
Because I couldn't do right.
Innoccence lost cannot be brought back.
I could have spared him from the attack.
If in my duty I hadn't lack.
Now I can never have my Pippin back.
Heart of hearts, ice and fire,
I have become a liar.
I promised we come safely back to the Shire,
Yet I failed when the need was most dire.
I couldn't do what had to be done,
I was to involved with dreamland fun,
I couldn't protect my little one,
I let him near the worst evil under the sun.
Pippin, I'm sorry that I can't see
I know your looking for comfort in me
But Peregrin you must let me be,
Please forgive me.
My heart is torn in two,
I don't know what else to do.
This day I will forever rue,
for it's the day evil came to you.
