Chapter 1.
Cairo, Egypt 1933
Securing the reins of hers and her friends camels to the Palm tree, Rebekah wiped her hands on her trousers and wiped at her forehead with her shirt sleeve, wiping away some of the dripping beads of sweat from her forehead but knowing it was pointless as new clear beads began to fall in their place. Turning round, Rebekah closed her eyes and took a deep sigh, at the end of it opening her eyes and flinching when she saw figures ahead of her at the entrance to their latest adventure, but somehow, deep in her gut, knowing it wasn't real.
Taking a cautious step further, Rebekah watched as two women walked through the entrance of the temple, one of them brown haired and one blonde and a man dressed in military solider garments, but with the distance between them, Rebekah couldn't make out their faces. As they entered the temple, Rebekah broke her eye contact from them at the sound of hooves, looking in the distance to see three people on horseback approaching.
"Dammit." Rebekah whispered and took off, running quickly in the temple and at the first turning she came across, taking a right and within a blink of eye, the vision continued, the torches lit and the two women facing each other in convocation at the end of the corridor. Rebekah gave a tiny gasp as she saw them to look exactly like herself and Evy. As they ended their convocation they smiled at each other and the solider bowed to a departing look alike Evy and when he stood straight again, Rebekah saw how he looked exactly at Ardeth and for the first time that week in nearly forgetting him, her heart ached.
Her past-self turned and smiled to the look alike Ardeth and taking his hand, took another turning, which Rebekah followed. After two more rights, a left, then a right, then two lefts, Rebekah had lost the vision and noticed she was in a dim lit corridor, without a sense of direction. Sighing in irritation, Rebekah, pulled her white shirt out from her trousers and ripped off the end of the fabric and picking up a nearby piece of wood, tied it round one end and grabbing a box of matches from her small shoulder bag, lighting a match and silently thanking the Gods for remembering them, lit the fabric and looked round at the now brighter corridor.
"No going back now." Rebekah whispered to herself and carried on down the corridor and as she was about to take the only turning to the right, she began to hear faint noises. Her heart rate increasing and making sure she took silent steps with her black boots, she reached the end of corridor and whirled round, screaming as she near on impacted on her in a sense nephew and son to Rick and Evy, Alex O'Connell. "Alex!" Rebekah exclaimed.
"Sorry Auntie Rebekah, I didn't mean to scare you. I got bored and wondered off but found something cool and I tried to show dad but he wouldn't listen so now that I found you please come see it please." Alex said really quickly and begged at the end, showing clearly to Rebekah he was really excited about what he had found.
"Okay, just…stay by my side, otherwise your mum and dad will have both our necks." Rebekah replied and shook her head with a smile as Alex quickly nodded and took off leading the way. When they reached the main area of the temple Rebekah looked round and saw the vision appear again, her past-self smiling and laughing at something the look alike Ardeth had said, twirling round, their hands still entwined and both disappearing as they walked out of the room.
"Auntie…Auntie!" Alex shouted, bringing Rebekah back to reality.
"Sorry, what did you say?" Rebekah asked, turning round to face him.
Alex ignored her daydreaming and took a couple steps back and pointed at the wall, "Look, its dad's tattoo. The pyramid, eye and the two kings. I wonder what it means." He whispered at the end and in honesty so did Rebekah, noticing the exact symbol that she had seen on Rick's wrist a couple of times when it wasn't covered by a shirt or the cuff bracelet he wore.
Walking further in the centre, the pair paused when they heard approaching footsteps and shadows on the walls. "Hide." Rebekah quickly whispered. Dropping the torch and quickly kicking sand on it to extinguish it, she ran and hid behind a pillar, peeking out quickly to see Alex climb a fixture and hiding again as three men entered.
"Knock, knock anybody home?" One gruff voice rang out. When he got no reply the man who spoke out gave an order, "You two check over there, see if it's there. I'll sort out the O'Connells." Confused by what the 'it' was but trying to not gasp but the last sentence the man said, Rebekah stayed still and quiet as she heard two of the three footsteps fade away a bit, but not leaving the room completely, the man walking past her as he left the area.
Staying put, Rebekah listened as the two men moved the objects in the room around, one of them mumbling to himself and complaining, the other staying silent. That was, till the mumbling man suddenly let out a loud yell and made her jump. "Jaccque! Somethin' hit me head!" The man shouted.
The other, Jaccque, silenced him harshly and quickly, speaking for the first time, "Don't speak! This place, is cursed. We do not want to wake the Gods." The man who got hit with something soon calmed down and both went back to searching, till he got hit again and let out another yell. Rebekah also heard a quick but soon silenced chuckle and realised it was Alex. Cursing to herself in her head, Rebekah peaked round and tried to get his attention, but failed as he lined up his sling shot and fired a stone, but both froze as Jaccque caught it. "I'll take care of this." He said simply and began to approach Alex.
Rebekah cursed in her head again and darted from her hiding spot two pillars along, grabbing a pot and quickly throwing it and narrowly missing Jaccque. The men turned to face her as she shouted, "Hey! Pick on someone your own size!" Jaccque began walking towards her, pushing the other man out of his way but all froze when they heard a distant, rushing sound and the third man in their group ran back in.
"Spivey! Jacques! Forget them and let's get out of 'ere!" He sounded panicked and didn't give Rebekah a second glance as he ran past her and out of the room. Spivey followed but Jaccque quickly grabbed his knife and cut some of the support on the fixture Alex was on and followed his companions.
"Alex!" Rebekah shouted, watching as her nephew tried to balance on the wobbling fixture and watched helplessly as it wobbled into the pillar next to it and Alex finding grip on it. "Hold on!" Rebekah shouted and quickly dodged the collapsing pillars and ran to Alex, checking the sand covered boy for injuries. Happy he was uninjured, the pair finally looked round their surroundings.
"Whoa." They both whispered in unison.
Hearing a groaning noise, they both turned round to see the last pillar begin to fall. "Alex no!" Rebekah shouted, missing a chance to grab the boy as he went to try and support it. Running to him, Rebekah quickly picked up and ran away as the pillar narrowly missed a crushing blow on them, hitting a hole in the wall and letting out a flow of water, washing up a drenched Rick and Evy. Rebekah slowly put Alex down and took a small step back as they looked up to their son.
"Mum, dad…I can explain everything." Alex said calmly.
