This is the revised chapter. I hope you enjoy it! I only own Arianna.
The castle was finally in view after what seemed like hours and hours of riding and now, it was getting closer and closer with each passing second. Yet, it still seemed so far away as the wind whipped all around, chilling every thing it touched. The only sound that could be heard in the night was the sound of hooves pounding against the ground and the rider's heavy breathing.
Sighing, Arianna Kurt, the Princess of Hungary, pulled the hood of her black cloak back over her long, wavy, auburn hair, riding as fast as she could to French Court. Squinting her dark brown eyes, the outline of the castle was just coming into view on the horizon. Letting out a sigh a relief, she remembered how she stayed her when she was little only returning to her own country few times. She had promised she would return, but she did not think it would be under such devastating circumstances. When Arianna made the promise, it was out of hope and love, but it was never fulfilled. Pushing her horse faster, Arianna wondered if she would be able to fulfill it at all now that she was running from the truth.
As Arianna rode on, the stars started to fade, the moon started to fall further into the sky, and the sun was beginning its ascension to take it's place. The sun was just peaking over the horizon when she arrived at the main gates of the castle. The guards quickly became alert of someone approaching, unsure of who would be riding up at this early hour, but upon seeing who it was, they let Arianna pass, each one shocked by the arrival of the princess. Riding all the way up to the doors, the next set of guards spotted Arianna immediately and went to help her off her horse. Once down, Arianna pushed them aside, noticing how nothing seemed to have changed here. As it was still so early in the morning, the halls were clear of the people in the castle, except for the one Arianna was most anxious to see. Frozen in the middle of the hallway, their eyes locked, his eyes practically bulging out of his head with an expression of someone who had just seen a ghost. So he heard.
Arianna saw him whisper her name before he started his way towards her at a quicker pace. Finally able to remember how to use her feet correctly, Arianna began walking until there were only a few steps between them. Before Arianna made it into his arms, the exhaustion started to claim her body as the lack of sleep and proper nutrition were starting to make her feel unsteady. As her world started to darken and blur, Arianna hoped that he would catch her before she made contact with the cold stone floor.
"Sebastian!" she exclaimed, feeling his arms encircle her waist.
Arianna heard him calling her name, trying to wake her, but she just couldn't stay conscious any longer. His arms made her feel safe and now that she was in them, she could finally rest after the days she had been travelling. She knew that he had to be confused, judging by his, and everyone else's face when they first saw her. They had all what happened, heard that she was presumed dead.
Arianna tried to open her eyes to say something, anything, to make the situation better but when she tried to speak, nothing came out. Her eyes fluttered open for a moment before they closed again. Arianna was trying to fight the sleep that was consuming her to explain what happened, but lying in the arms of the man whom she had loved since she was little, she couldn't resist the warmth that made her safe.
"Bash…" Arianna said, barely above a whisper.
Sebastian looked down at the young woman that was now unconscious in his arms. The same woman who he had planned on marrying and the woman, who until just a few seconds ago, he believed he would never see again. When he realized who it was standing in the hallway, he thought for a moment he was hallucinating, blinking a few times to see if she disappeared before his eyes but she never did. Staring down at Arianna, Sebastian held her closer to his chest before scooping her up and taking her Nostradamus. Even in her unconscious state, she leaned in closer to him, making Sebastian tighten his hold on the woman in his arms.
Looking down, Sebastian picked up his pace, noticing how ill Arianna looked. Before he reached the doors of the seer, he hoped that Arianna would make it until the next morning.
