The World Is Not What It Seems
Chapter 19: The One With The Greatest Day Ever
Kagome's POV:
We walk over to the other car, the one that was going at least twice the speed-limit, and open the door on the passenger side. We're surprised to see Kikyo, and the driver is Naraku.
Kikyo steps out of the car, seemingly unharmed, and crosses her arms.
"Look who you two set me up with! This IDIOT decided to drive twice the speed limit for fun!" she yelled at me and Inuyasha. "I could've been killed! 'Oh let's go to Higurashi shrine! No one will be driving there!' WELL LOOK WHAT HAPPENED!" She was more yelling at Naraku now.
Naraku steps out of the car on the driver's side, and we are surprised enough to see that he now has short hair. It's shoulder-length!
"Was this your way of avenging your hair or something?!" Kikyo yelled. "Cuz it certainly couldn't just be for fun!"
"I swear I wasn't trying to hurt you!" Naraku replied, walking over to us and Kikyo. "I didn't know anyone would be parked over here…"
"Save it! You were over here before you went to my house and this is Inuyasha's car!" Kikyo yelled. She sighed and muttered "I would rather date Suikotsu than you…"
Did she say Suikotsu..?
"Inuyasha, drive me home!" Kikyo demands.
"Um, yeah, that's gonna be a little hard considering what your date did to my car…" Inuyasha replies, pointing to the wreck.
"Well I'm sure as hell not letting Hell drive me home!" Kikyo replies, shooting Naraku a look that says she'd rather shoot herself in the head.
"I don't think I'm gonna be able to drive you home anyways; my car is wrecked too," Naraku replies.
Just then my mom decides to come outside, and she gasps at the scene.
"Is everyone alright?!" she asks.
"We're fine, mom," I reply.
"Yeah, we're fine, just stuck," Inuyasha adds. I glare at him.
"What do you mean?" my mom asks.
"Mom, the cars got wrecked… Wait a second how is Naraku allowed to drive?!"
He shrugs. "I'm not."
"Kikyo, why would you even get in the car with this idiot?" Inuyasha asks her.
She shrugs. "It's not like I was gonna go to the dance with him…"
"Well do you all need a place to stay?" my mom asks.
"Kinda," I reply for the three of them. "But we don't have room for them!"
"Well we could make room… Inuyasha could sleep on the floor in your room and these two could sleep in the living room!" my mom suggests, being a nice person as always.
Kikyo shrugs. "I guess that could work…"
And so that's what we do.
Inuyasha sleeps next to my bed, Kikyo sleeps on the couch, and Naraku sleeps on the floor next to the couch.
I lie awake, staring at the ceiling; I can't fall asleep. It's been a long night… First the whole date thing, then the ramen incident, then Sango comes, and then this?! Geez…
"Inuyasha?" I whisper, turning towards him. "Are you awake?"
"Why the hell are ya askin' me?" I hear quietly from the floor.
"Well I can't sleep…"
"Just make the ramen…" is his reply. I sit up a little and lean over; he's asleep. Figures…
I sigh and turn back to the ceiling, eventually drifting off.
The next day everyone finds a way home, and it's Saturday as usual. And pretty soon it's Monday; time for school.
As I walk to school, I think of what happened Friday. I sigh and shake my head.
And after all that, Inuyasha and I aren't any farther than we were before…
Sango's POV:
I sigh as I walk to school, wondering what today will be like. I cancelled the date with Kuranosuke, but there was no real reason to… I mean, I don't like Kuranosuke, but I don't hate him either!
Whatever…
When I get there, it's actually a normal day. What a surprise…
At lunch I sit down next to Rin, but Kirara isn't with her. I wonder why…
"Rin, where's Kirara?" I ask.
"I don't know," she replies.
It doesn't sound like she's lying, and if she doesn't know then that could be a problem…
Kagome sits down next to Kirara, plopping her lunch tray onto the table. "I want to know why Ayame and Koga suddenly became so friendly!" she exclaims.
"What, are you jealous?" I ask with a smirk.
"What?! No way! But how can he just go from hating her to liking her it doesn't make sense!"
"Why are you saying this now?" Rin asks.
"Well I kind of saw them kissing outside the school…"
"Why were you outside?" I ask.
"I um wanted to see what they were doing so I um followed them…" Kagome replies sheepishly.
I sigh. "Kagome, I'm pretty sure they knew you were there. They're wolf demons, remember?! Why would you follow them?!"
"Well I wanted to know!" she protests.
"Yeah but things could have gotten heated up out there," Rin says, taking a bite of her food. We stare at her and her chewing slows to a stop. "What?!" she asks, her mouth full of food.
"Never mind… So what I wanna know is why Inuyasha was at your house on Friday," I say, changing the topic to Kagome.
"Well he was coming over because… Well he had the date with Kikyo and… I think he wanted to apologize actually…"
"No offense but that doesn't sound like him," I say.
"I know! But then Naraku showed up because you know he was making me go on the dance to spy on them. And then they started arguing but then we told Naraku to take Kikyo to the dance. So then Inuyasha came inside my house and we watched movies on Netflix. And then he wanted ramen and then you showed up, Sango. But then he takes you and Kohaku home. So I fall asleep on the couch but I have this dream that when Inuyasha gets in his car it's gonna get hit. So I guess he comes back and then he leaves cuz my mom came home but I wake up and race out the door and save him from him getting hit too but his car still got hit. And then Kikyo and Naraku get out of the car that hit his and Kikyo had cut Naraku's hair really short! And then-"
"Wait, Kikyo did that..?" a voice asks. We turn to see Suikotsu walking by our table.
Kagome nods.
"So she must like guys with short hair then…" he says.
"Well Inuyasha still has long hair," Rin says.
"Oh, right…"
"Naraku's hair was just really bad-looking," I say.
"Right…" he nods and continues walking.
"What was that about?" I ask.
"Well isn't it obvious?! Suikotsu has a thing for Kikyo!" Kagome exclaims.
"Why are you so happy about it?" I ask her.
"Well Suikotsu isn't bad-looking so if he can get Kikyo's attention then she'll leave Inuyasha alone!"
"He already has her attention," Rin says. "He's helping her with her English class since he was in America for so long!"
"That's perfect!" Kagome exclaims.
"Whatever you say…" I reply.
"You're just jealous because Miroku's such a pervert," Kagome says.
"What are you talking about I'm not jealous!" I protest, my cheeks becoming a bit pink.
"Oh, right. You're not jealous, you're just making a big deal out of it for nothing hmm…"
"Look Kagome I'm not jealous of anyone okay I'm just not that interested in your match-making thing," I say, returning my attention to my food.
"Whatever you say but if I asked Miroku he'd probably agree with me…"
"What do you mean?" I ask, about to take a bite.
"Oh speak of the devil he's walking over here…!"
I look over and in fact he is, and there are no girls with him either.
He sits down next to me. "Good afternoon Sango," he says, smiling.
"What do you want?" I ask a bit too coldly.
"Nothing, I just wanted to say hello…"
"Why bother? You seem to always be with some girls so why not just talk to them?" I ask, taking a bite of my food.
"Well I wanted to talk to you instead…"
"Whatever…"
"So I heard you cancelled your date with Kuranosuke," he says.
I look up from my food. I almost forgot that Miroku knew about it; Kuranosuke smirked at him in the hallway, didn't he..?! "Why would you bring that up..?"
"Well I've been thinking."
"About what?"
"Didn't you say you would go on a date with me last year before the boo bash?"
"Eh?!" That did happen, didn't it… "Well the date was supposed to be the boo bash…"
"Yes but it did go horribly wrong…"
"So what are you saying?"
"Well I was wondering if you want to go to that movie Kuranosuke was going to take you to only with me instead…"
"Eh? Are you asking me out..?"
"Why are you so surprised? I did it all the time in middle school, didn't I..?"
"W-well yeah but…"
"Why would this time be any different?"
I sigh. "Fine. I'll go. When?"
He blinks. "You're actually saying yes..?"
"Yeah; what's the big deal?"
"Okay; I'll come by your house on Friday, alright?"
I nod, returning my attention to my food. He walks away.
I see Kagome and Rin staring at me. "What?" I ask before taking another bite.
"Nothing…"
Kagome's POV:
After school we all decided to go to WacDonald's like we used to. It's me, Sango, Ayame, Kirara, Rin, Inuyasha, Miroku, and Koga. We sit like we did when we came here at the beginning of the school year, only this time Koga and Ayame aren't avoiding each other and there is a slightly different feel about Inuyasha and I, and the same goes for Sango and Miroku. And Kirara and Rin aren't as cheerful as they used to be and don't talk just between themselves as much.
"So how are all of your lives?" I ask.
"Well I haven't seen Sesshomaru for what seems like five hundred years," Rin replies. I can see why she spoke up, because her date wasn't sitting right there at the table. The rest of us would have nothing to say.
"I'm sure you'll see him soon; you always do run into each other," I say. "Maybe Kirara can set something up?"
"I'm busy…" Kirara says without looking up.
"Busy doing what?" Ayame asks. "Usually you're busy putting pictures of you OTP together, but you seem depressed."
"I'm fine," she says, looking up. She smiles, but she isn't fooling anyone.
…Except maybe Inuyasha, who isn't even paying attention to this conversation and is instead focused on some random dog across the street. My taste in boyfriends could improve…
"So I heard Sango is going on a date with Miroku tomorrow," Koga says with a smirk. His arm is around Ayame, a detail which I noticed a few moments ago however did not care enough to mention. Ha.
"It's not a real date..!" Sango exclaims as soon as Miroku opens his mouth to speak.
"Of course it's a real date," Kirara says. "You referred to it as a date, therefore it is a real date. The only way it would be a fake date is if both members of the couple specify that it is indeed not a romantic endeavor."
There goes Kirara, back to her usual self; at least that's what she makes it seem like.
"It isn't romantic at all!" Sango exclaims.
"Don't I get a say in this?" Miroku asks.
"No, because I only agreed because you used something we agreed to last Halloween as an excuse to ask me out, and I thought it was a fair deal!"
"Yes but you hardly protested, which means that you don't mind going out with me."
"But I figured that it would be a one-time thing! You used to ask me out all the time in middle school, and, like you said yourself, how would this be any different?!"
"Sango there is no way you will win this argument," Rin offers. "You cancelled the date with Kuranosuke yourself, and only a few days later you agree to one with Miroku. And I doubt you are going to cancel this time."
"Fine, maybe I will just cancel!" Sango announces.
"NO!" everyone else at the table shouts in unison.
Sango looks around. "Are you all rooting for us?!"
…
"Yes," I admit.
"Why?!"
"Well you're the only couple at this table aside from Kirara and Rin's relationships who hasn't expressed any romantic affection that you both admitted to enjoying."
"…Fine! You want affection? I'll give you affection!"
She then proceeded to grab Miroku's face in both of her hands and fully make out with him right then and there.
And instead of proving her point she just proved ours.
And we were all happy about it.
All eight of us
Later on, I received devastating news.
About an hour after I got home the doorbell rang. My mom had left to take Sota to his soccer game, and I was home alone in my pajamas. I opened the door to see Inuyasha.
"Hello," I greeted him.
"I'm moving."
"What?"
"I'm moving. Apparently my dad decided to open some new thing in another city and we have to move there for at least a year. I don't know all of the details, but unless I can get Sesshomaru to stay here and let me live with him I won't be able to stay."
"But that's… That's terrible!" I exclaim.
"I know. I just thought I should tell you now, since I'll be gone in less than twenty-four hours."
"What?! Why the hell didn't you tell me sooner?!"
"I didn't know about it! My dad never tells me stuff until the last minute!"
I sigh, frustrated.
"I just wanted to, um, say goodbye," Inuyasha states. He looks away. "And I'm going to, uh, miss you…"
I look at him. "I'm going to miss you too."
"I wish I could stay, but the odds of Sesshomaru finding a house in the next…" he looks at his wrist. "Wait, I'm not wearing a watch."
"It's five thirty."
"I have about seventeen hours, then."
"Well let's make the most of them, then," I suggest.
"What do you mean?"
"Whatever you want to do, we'll do it. I'll do it with you. I want to spend as much time with you as I can before you go."
"What about the others?"
"We can include them too," I reply.
"We don't have to, though?"
I laugh. "Whatever you want"
He grins. "You wanna get pancakes at midnight?"
I smile. "How could I say no to that?"
Sango's POV:
As I am watching TV with Kohaku I get a text message. I look at my phone to see that it's from Kagome. I open it and read:
Do you wanna come get pancakes with me and Inuyasha at midnight?
I am a bit confused, but go along with it.
Sure, but it's only 6 o'clock; couldn't we just get them now?
I set the phone down and refocus my attention on the TV.
A few minutes later I get another text.
No. It has to be at midnight.
Ok count me in. It isn't as if I have a curfew.
After that I don't get any more texts from her for a while, and I decide to take a nap. I double-check where Kohaku is (he's in the basements playing a game) and then lie down on the couch.
When I wake up, I walk to the kitchen to start making dinner to find Kohaku and Miroku attempting that very thing. Now keep in mind that before this point I was still half asleep, but I do a double-take and my eyes shoot open. "What the- Miroku what are you doing here, you- NO YOU'RE GOING TO BURN THE RAMEN!" I run over to them and turn off the stove right away. I sigh.
"Miroku what are you doing here?"
"Well I came over here to see you and Kohaku let me in."
I turn to Kohaku. "Why would you let him in?"
"Well I recognized him from the party."
"Wait, how long was I asleep?!"
"About 6 hours," Miroku replies.
"6 HOURS?! It's nine o'clock then! What have you been doing for six hours?!"
"Playing video games," Kohaku replies. "Miroku is really good at them!"
They fist-bump.
You have GOT to be kidding me. My boyfriend is best friends with my brother. This is turning into my worst nightmare…
Well he isn't really my boyfriend; we haven't even gone out for real. I mean sure we've kissed like three times but we're just friends I mean seriously; I've kissed Inuyasha too! Although I thought he was Miroku at the time… Wait people only see us as friends , right?! I mean it isn't like we're officially dating!
Miroku waves his hand in front of my face. "Hello? Sango are you still there?"
I blink. "Yeah; sorry. But, um, Miroku shouldn't you be getting home? It is nine o'clock…"
"No, I don't think I should bother. Mushin has someone… over. But if you want me to leave I can go somewhere. Inuyasha probably has nothing to do."
"Actually I think Inuyasha is out with Kagome…"
"Oh, well I guess I could go to the Under-21 club and pick up some-"
I glare at him. "No, that's fine; you can stay here."
"Really? Thank you; I actually wasn't up for dancing tonight…"
I sigh. "Whatever. You can sleep on the couch, even though I've been sleeping there lately."
"Well you can sleep on the couch if you'd prefer."
"Then where would you sleep?"
"I don't know."
"You just sleep on the couch, and I'll sleep in my bed."
"Okay. Are you up for a movie?"
"Sure, if it's one Kohaku can watch too," I reply, looking at Kohaku, who is watching our conversation curiously.
"Let's let Kohaku pick the movie, then," Miroku suggests.
"Okay!" Kohaku exclaims before running to the living room. Miroku tries to follow him but I grab the hood of his sweatshirt and pull him back into the kitchen.
"What the hell are you doing here?" I whisper shout.
"I wanted to talk to you," he replies.
"About what?!"
"…"
"What?!"
"It doesn't matter now."
"No you are not just going to say that, alright? Tell me what it is."
"Um… Did you know Inuyasha was moving?"
"Wait, seriously?"
I can tell that that wasn't what he was supposed to tell me, but I don't think he's lying about Inuyasha.
"Yeah, today's his last day," he replies.
I think for a second. "Did you get invited to have pancakes at midnight too?"
"Come to think of it I did…"
Kagome's POV:
Inuyasha and I decided to do all of the things we never did, like go to the movies or to a restaurant. Here was the plan:
-Go to the park
-Go to a café for some pastries or something
-Window shopping
-Listen to music at my house and do nothing
-Go to dinner somewhere
-Triple-Feature at the drive in movie-theater (in my mom's car since Inuyasha's was wrecked)
-Pancakes at midnight with Roku and San
Inuyasha didn't exactly agree to all of these, so we decided to change stuff as we went along. Currently we're at the drive-in movie theater, and I get a text from Sango.
Why didn't you tell me that Yashie was moving?! And why didn't he tell me?!
I reply.
We figured Miroku would tell you I guess
I get another.
Did you know he was gonna come to my house?!
Well that's new...Sort of…
No. Why is he at your house?
I don't know! He wouldn't tell me; he lied and said it was to tell me that Yashie was moving
I nudge Inuyasha. "Did you know that Miroku was going over to Sango's house?"
"Keh; he said somethin' about it…"
"Do you know his reason?"
"He told me not to tell ya. It seemed pretty stupid to me."
I think about this. Miroku went all the way to Sango's house, and then he wouldn't tell her why. Well, he lied. And he didn't want Yasha to tell anyone about it, either.
Oh. My. God.
I open my phone to text Sango, but then realize that I probably shouldn't. I'm probably right about this, but I shouldn't spoil it…
Pancakes at midnight. Isn't this exciting? I bet the pancake place doesn't get many customers at midnight. Inuyasha and I wait by the door for MirSan. We don't want to enter until exactly midnight, and we should wait for them anyways.
They show up just in time. They look tired, too. The look the same tired…
"Hey, guys," Miroku says.
"Inuyasha how could you not tell me you're moving?!" Sango asks.
He shrugs. "I assumed Kagome or Miroku would tell you."
She sighs. "Whatever. Let's just get some pancakes; it's kinda cold out here."
"You can have my sweatshirt if you want," Miroku offers.
"Nah that's alright," Sango replies. "I bet it won't be cold inside."
She was wrong, and soon she was wearing Miroku's sweatshirt.
I, however, was right. There are about three people in the entire restaurant, and two are together. We got one of the huge booths meant for ten people, even though we all kind of squished together anyways.
"So what did you guys end up doing today?" Miroku asks.
"We did a lot of stuff," I reply. I describe the events of the day, which included the park, some food, a little window shopping though not much for Yasha's sake, dinner, and the movies.
"Sounds like fun," Sango replies.
"It was! What did you do all day?"
"Well apparently I took a 6 hour nap, and when I woke up Miroku and Kohaku were trying to make ramen in the kitchen," Sango replied, glaring at Roku. "After that we just watched movies."
"Both of you? Together?" I ask.
Sango shrugs. "Us and Kohaku."
"So was it like a date?"
"Pffft NO!" Sango exclaims before Miroku can say anything.
"Oh come on, Sango! You have to admit that that is a date."
"We were just watching a movie! We weren't kissing or anything!"
"If you're going to say that then let me bring up the MULTIPLE times you HAVE kissed!"
"But it wasn't a real date!"
"To be fair," Miroku interjects, "We have a date on Saturday, so I suppose we're technically dating."
"It isn't like I was 'technically dating' Kuranosuke when we had a date," Sango argues.
"Yes but you and Miroku are really good friends! You can't say that you have a date and aren't dating!" I argue back.
"Why not?!"
"BECAUSE MIROKU IS IN LOVE WITH YOU, YOU IDIOT!" Inuyasha shouts, looking annoyed. We all stare at him. "What? I was tired of your arguing."
Sango looks at Miroku. "Is that true..?"
"It might be a bit true; now if you will excuse me I'm going to go flirt with the waitress," Miroku replies, standing up.
Sango pulls him back down to the table. "Miroku if you had a crush on me then why didn't you just tell me?"
"Well I kissed you. I asked you out. I groped you a few times…"
"It's a bit different!"
"Well then because I don't have a crush on you, okay? I don't have a crush on you."
"Then why did Inuyasha just say that you do?"
"He didn't say that I had a crush on you, he said that I was in love with you."
I HAD TO STOP TYPING BECAUSE I AM GOING TO HAVE A HEART ATTACK IF I CONTINUE. Sorry that I sort of focused more on MirSan. I am also sorry that I haven't updated for like five thousand years heheh… I started this right after the last one and never finished, and then I got a really REALLY sweet review from someone (you know who you are) and I just really wanted to update. …And then I didn't really get any work done for like a month until just a few days ago when I decided I had to get it done! Also I made it REALLY long (around four thousand words aka 13 pages) so please don't make me write more because I'm really busy and I don't even watch anime anymore (sorry heheh) however I am willing to try and continue but ONLY if you REALLY want me to. Anyways I hope you liked this chapter and if you haven't already you should read "The World Can Be Very Strange" because this one is the sequel to that one so if you want more just read that ^^' I love you all and I hope you love my writing, even though these fics are DEFINITELY NOT my best writing, although I have to say the chapter before this one was pretty good (but that's just me). Happy reading!
