May's POV
"May." I shivered at the deadly serious tone of his voice.
"Yes?" He pulled away and I almost sighing in relief. But his glare was way too intense.
I looked down.
"Are you cheating?" he asked.
"No!" I exclaimed, looking back up, "I would never do that!"
"Then…What was that?" he asked.
"I just…uh…um I thought…Um," I stuttered, trailing off. I had no reason.
"You don't actually like me do you?" he asked. His eyes reflected hurt, rejection and slight anger.
"What! No I do like you. I do," I said, "I swear I do." He backed off.
"Just not the same way I do," he said, "You only like me as a friend." I bowed my head.
"It's true isn't it?" he asked, "You like that Drew fella. I should've known."
"I'm sorry," I whispered, "I know I'll get over him. I can love you. I just need a chance."
"Why are you doing this May if you hate it?" he asked.
"Because I have to," I said.
"What?" he asked.
"I just…" I said, trailing off. How was I supposed to explain it?
"Look at me," he said. He grabbed my chin and titled my head up.
"May, you could have said no if you didn't want to go out with me," he said, "Look, I can't do this. You're not my girlfriend." I burst into tears, not because I was sad we broke up, I was heartbroken that I'd hurt two people in one day. I'm such a selfish person.
"I just have one question May," he said.
"Yes?" I said.
"Why did you lead me on?" he asked quietly. I paused.
"Well, I had to," I said, "I had a huge debt to pay off to Jacob and when he introduced us, I just thought that, I'd have to because I needed to pay it off." He laughter bitterly.
"That's stupid," he said, "Neither me or dad would force that on you. I just wanted to meet you because I admired you."
My eyes widened. I'd gone ahead and hurt him because of nothing?
"I'm leaving," he said, "It might be a while before you see me again, but when you do, let's work on being friends ok?" He walked away and I collapsed, my legs not being able to hold me anymore.
Tears poured down my cheeks, half in relief, half in heartbreak.
Mina's POV
I heard the screaming from that room, mostly from Drew and I couldn't believe what I was hearing. May had come out, looking dreadfully upset and slightly confused.
"Come on," I said to Jaiden, "Let's go talk to that boy. He's got some issues."
"But how do you know?" Jaiden asked. I grabbed his shirt.
"Don't question," I said, "just do. This is for the sake of May and her love life because-" I paused to point at May and Craig talking "-it looks like that one's about to end."
He sighed.
"Don't meddle too much," Jaiden said, "You go ahead, I'm going to keep an eye out for May. She may need it if you don't come out in time."
"Smart," I said, "good answer. Now, wish me luck." He smirked slightly.
"No good luck hug this time?" he asked. I paused.
"Maybe just a short one," I said. I quickly wrapped my arms around him. I felt his chuckles vibrate his chest as he put his arms over my back.
"You're a funny one aren't you?" he said.
"You know it," I said, winking.
"Ok Drew, what is your problem?" I asked, slamming the door open and shut behind me.
He looked up, looking surprised before frowning.
"You're May's friend," he said flatly, "did she send you in here? I don't wanna hear it."
"May did not send me in here, in fact she'd probably be mortified if she knew," I said, "but I wanna know what your issue is. What on Mew is wrong with you?"
"I don't have to tell you anything," he said, crossing his arms and looking away, "I don't feel you need to know."
I marched over to him, getting slightly angry.
"You listen here," I said, grabbing his shirt and holding it tight as I pulled him up, "you better tell me because even though May would hate me for it, I am not afraid to hurt you. You're being a little sook and unfair about it? What did May do?" His face looked slightly fearful for just a moment.
"She played me," he said, "I don't know how, but somehow I said it. She was going out with that other guy. And she lead me on. Don't tell me you didn't know." I smirked.
"Aha, so that's it," I said, "You're upset because May's going out with another guy after she kissed you. Is that is? Do I sense some jealousy?"
"What!" he exclaimed, "How did you know that?"
"Oh, I know more than you think," I said, "and I'll tell you. Don't give up just yet-" I roughly shoved him back onto the bed, "-just something to think about. Tata for now." I winked and waved my fingers at him while going out.
Right, now to sort May.
Mays's POV
"May?" I looked up to see Mina and Jaiden. Mina knelt down by me, looking worried.
"Hey, was that Craig? May are you ok?" she asked.
"I…He…We broke up," I said.
"What?" Mina asked, "Why?"
"Because I didn't want to be with him," I said, "and he told me that I never was going to be forced into a relationship."
"I knew it!" Jaiden exclaimed, "I knew it was all in your head!" Mina glared and slapped his leg from where she was kneeling.
"Not helping Jaiden," she said. I sniffed and smiled at them, making me feel a little better.
"So have you two decided what you're going to do with your marriage?" I asked. Mina's cheeks instantly went red.
"Well…Uh…I've been trying to avoid that," Mina said.
"You know you would have to bring it up eventually," I said, "You guys are married after all."
"Well, not technically," Mina said, "I mean, we're still too young."
"By one year," I said, "and if you signed the documents that means yes, you guys really are married and if you wanted to break that, means you'll have to get a divorce." Mina paled.
"But I don't really want to do that," Mina said, "I would be a divorcee!" Jaiden snorted.
"Gee thanks," Jaiden said, "No, 'but I don't wanna divorce Jaiden', just 'I don't wanna be a divorcee'."
"Sorry," Mina said.
"You guys already act like a married couple anyway," I said, "you basically take responsibility for each other, so you should just stick with it."
"We do not act like a married couple," Mina protested, "and I don't wanna go through with it yet. I don't wanna have to cook and clean for him. Do you know how much he eats?" Jaiden let out an indignant noise.
"And do you know how bad she is at cooking and cleaning?" Jaiden asked.
"And do you know how bad his feet smell?" Mina said, standing up and challenging him.
"And do you know how much she wriggles around?"
"And do you know how he leaves the room a huge mess?"
"And do you know how over the top her OCD tendencies can get?"
"And do you know how much time he wastes on pointless games?"
"And do you know how much time she spends on pointless reorganization when she knows it's just going to get messed up?"
"Enough!" I yelled, "I think I get the picture. Gosh you two. Just kiss and get over it already."
This time both of them blushed.
"Well, figured it out yet?" I asked.
"I think we should just keep the titles, but act as though we're dating until an appropriate time that I would actually want to propose to her and then hold an official wedding ceremony then. So we'll technically be married on paper, but not act it," Jaiden said.
"Aww," I cooed, "that's so sweet. Mina, you know how to pick them." She blushed.
"He's not always like this," she muttered.
"Sure whatever you say," I said sarcastically.
"Thank you!" Mina exclaimed, "Now, you need to get in the room there and sort out your issues." She pointed to Drew's door.
"What?" I asked, "Drew hates me. He thinks I cheated him or something." Mina smirked.
"Oh, he's just jealous because he knew you and Craig were going out and he thought you were leading him on with the kiss only to crush his hopes when he saw you with another guy," she said, "just go explain to him. You show him who is boss. But watch out, he's more stubborn than Jaiden."
"Hey!" Jaiden protested, "I'm not stubborn."
"Yes you are," Mina said, "now go May, we'll be waiting for you." She pushed me towards the door.
"Ok, ok," I said, "I'll talk to him. Stop." I took a deep breath and opened Drew's door for the second time that day.
Drew's POV
I saw May once again. Her eyes were red and puffed and she looked upset. Had she been crying because of me?
"What now?" I asked.
"I just want to talk," she said, "and clear some things up."
"Well, I told you, I don't really wanna hear your pathetic excuses," I said.
In a snap she was by my side, her eyes angrily staring into mine, her breathing seething with rage, her hand reeling back.
A stinging sensation on my cheek alerted me to the fact that she'd just slapped me.
She's slapped me!
No-one had ever slapped me before.
I held my cheek, staring at her in shock.
"How dare you?" she screeched, hot angry tears in her eyes, "How could you even suggest a pathetic excuse? Do you have any idea what I've been going through? NO! You don't. So shut up and listen to me."
I blinked. As much as I wanted to tear it away, I had to admit, she definitely had my attention.
"Do you know what's it's like to have an unpaid debt? No, you probably don't because your family's rich and you'll never be in debt, but I do! I have a debt so large I will never pay it off. I should be dead Drew. Did you know that?" she yelled, "I shouldn't be living and neither should my family. We were going to be executed by Team Alpha. Did you know that? No, you didn't. You know why I survived? Team Gama came and saved me and my family. I owe Gama my life. My life Drew. And the life of my family. I bet you didn't know that."
No. I didn't know that. May was going to be killed? When? What did it have to do with anything?
"I was recruited to Gama," May said, in a tone a little more calm, "It was part of the conditions. Do you know what Gama is? It's anti-villain organization to fight crime. Have you any idea how dangerous it is? And I still can't repay my debt. That was 6 years ago Drew! And my family is a nervous wreck. Do you have any idea what it's like to have your mum and dad feel helpless to do anything to help you? Do you know what their worry for my life feels like? Do you know what it's like to see your brother, smart mouthed and confident, lose it and turn into a nervous wreck that never leaves the house and fears for you even if you go out the house for 5 minutes?"
She was going through this? What did it have to do with the boy?
"And so you see, when my boss told me about Craig, I had the sickening feeling that it was part of my repayment. I would have to date him and probably one day marry him. This guy who I did not like in that way." She laughed bitterly.
"I can't believe you didn't realize it. I was in love with you Drew. I hated the thought of dating someone else. I wasn't just leading you on. Mew Drew, are you that stupid? Never mind that Craig and I aren't even together. Turns out it was a misunderstanding. Drew, I'm not a cheater," she said.
My heart sped up. She loved me? Wait. Past tense.
"Was?" I questioned, "So you don't. Then why bother May?"
Her hand shifted into my hair and pulled it tight, forcing me to look into her darkened eyes.
"Idiot," she yelled, "I do love you. Stupid boy."
Next thing I knew, her head had dropped and her lips were on mine.
I fought against it, but in the end, it just overwhelmed me.
She said do love. That was present tense.
I grabbed her hair in my hair that was still holding it painfully tight and forced her fingers to let me go.
She pulled away, her face bright red, as if she'd only just realized what she'd done.
"I'm sorry, I did it again without asking you what you felt first," she muttered. I frowned.
"Stupid," I muttered, "Why do you always pull away before I can kiss back. Stop it would you?" I yanked her down and attached my lips back to hers, letting her know everything I was feeling.
"Hey May, it's gone quiet in here, everything ok?" I ignored both the voice and the sound of the door slamming shut again.
We both pulled away eventually, out of breath.
"I'm sorry," I said, "for yelling without understanding."
"It's ok," she said, smiling slightly, "I'm sorry for making you think that. And sorry for not rescuing you sooner."
I smiled.
"I thought I was supposed to rescue you," I said, "Isn't that what boyfriends do?"
She giggled.
"Apparently not," she said, "So you're my boyfriend huh?"
"I'd say so," I said, "seeing as we just swapped a fair amount of saliva just then." She scrunched up her nose.
"That makes it sound gross," she said, "and that also sounds like something I'd say to Mina and Jaiden."
"What happened to Mina?" I asked, "didn't she come in? Where'd she go?" May shrugged.
"How am I supposed to know?" she asked, "maybe to go tell Jaiden?"
"HEY JAIDEN! I TOLD YOU THEY'D GET TOGETHER! WE MADE A BET! GIVE ME MY 10 DOLLARS!" I heard Mina yell.
May and I just looked at each other before cracking up laughing.
Oh how the roles reversed.
A/N: OH MY GOODNESS! I am done. I am finished. Roles Reversed is officially done. I don't quite know whether to be happy or sad. I'll say...bittersweet.
Anyway, you'll notice Mina's last line is a reference to something previously in this story. See if you can pick it.
And Yes, I did actually reference the title in he last line. Because I'm like that and I can do that ;P I have no real reason for doing that.
And how much violence was directed at Drew this chappie? I kinda feel sorry for the guy.
And I just realized, Mina is basically me...How many times have I just insulted myself through this? Not just this chappie, but throughout the whole thing?
Now that I'm finished this, I will soon be moving on to my next project. And this one will be a movie twist again! Yay! It'll be of Pokemon Heroes: Latias and Latios. Only it will be under the name Pokemon connections: Latios and May. This is because I am actually adding in contestshipping as well as my biggest twist in the story. YAY! Because I love contestshipping. But it will also have Pokeshipping because it just calls for so many Misty jealousy moments. What fun for me. So if you're interested, keep a look out for that.
And to finish this off, please review and tell me, what did you think of the final chapter of Roles Reversed.
I guess I'll be seeing some of you at my next project ;P
