(Lloyd's POV)
We walked through the empty streets, ducking into alleys every time a stone soldier patrol group came by. It probably took around half an hour to get to the factory. It looked like a huge warehouse, one city-block wide, almost two long and several stories tall. From where we hid I could see serpentine and stone soldiers entering and exiting the building.
"So, the plan was to go in and take out the weapon right?" I asked.
"Not yet. We need the others in order to be able to destroy it." he stated. "That's why I told everyone to contact the rest if they found it. Even with your power you wouldn't leave a dent, I'd know."
Kai normally would jump at the chance to fight, what happened. "So we're just going to look at the dangerous weapon that is supposed to destroy us all? No fighting, what so ever?"
"If we can remain unseen then we should." Kai looked around for an opening. "Follow me." He bolted toward the building, just missing a pair of serpentine who were busy talking.
How did they not see him? I followed Kai's lead running when they had their backs turned. We carefully made our way to an open window and hopped inside. The room was massive, there were several desks covered in papers, piles of boxes, and a couple of trucks but I didn't see the weapon Kai had described at breakfast.
"One of the others must be headed to the weapon." I said.
"It was supposed to be here, it was here before." Kai whispered, he seemed to be talking mainly to himself. "That dang dragon freaken moved it!"
What is he talking about? "You knew it was here?"
He jumped like he forgot I was there. "Uh... I had a hunch but it looks like I was wrong."
"Ok, maybe the others had better luck." I replied, "let's go to the rendezvous spot and wait for them."
Kai nodded and lead the way to the dojo. He didn't talk and seemed anxious about something, I assumed it was about the weapon. We were several buildings away when he finally spoke.
"I should call the others and tell them to meet us at the serpentine's home instead." Kai stated, pulling out his walkie-talkie.
"What are you talking about? The dojo is just up ahead."
"I know but... the Overlord might have guards around it in case we went back." he said.
I continued walking. "There weren't any when I was there a few days ago."
He looked like he was thinking of another reason but instead he just sighed, put away the phone, and followed me the rest of the way. I still couldn't believe what happened to the dojo. It felt like only yesterday I was training with Cole to master earth but looking at the building, it reminded me of just how far back that was. I walked up to the charred wood door and pushed it open. It would have left a layer of ashes on my hand but with my black gloves nothing showed up. The inside was just as bad as it was days ago.
"We should leave." Kai said his voice tense.
"Cole said the Overlord had a weapon that did this." I ignored him and instead asked, "Where did you guys go after the dojo was destroyed?"
"I was out of town when this happened." he sighed, not looking around. "The others went to the serpentine tomb before they were able to get to Nya's hideout."
"You got rid of the thing the Overlord use to destroy the dojo right? What was it?" I didn't remember Cole saying what it was.
Kai paused for a moment then said, "I wasn't here. They didn't need my help anyway."
Oh, right. Kai was on that mission when they had to move.
"Look, I get you want to stay to think about the past but it's really dangerous for us to stay here." He pulled out the walkie-talkie again and went outside to call the others.
What's his problem? I took one last look at the remains of the dojo then followed Kai outside.
"- ok I'll see you there." Kai said and hung-up. "Come on."
We walked a few more blocks before entering the sewer. After that it was about ten minutes before we reached the serpentine's home. Skales Jr greeted us when we arrived.
"I didn't expect another vissit ssso ssoon." the purple and turquoise snake smiled. "What'ss the occasssion?"
"Our rendezvous spot was compromised. I hope you don't mind if we meet up here?" Kai replied.
That's not what happened!
"Not at all! You guysss are alwayss welcome here." Skales Jr said, then asked, "No ssstone sssoldiers followed you right?"
"We took the long way here, nobody followed." He returned the smile, "Thanks again Skales Jr."
Maybe I can finally ask what he meant last time.
Kai seemed to read my thoughts. "I should fill you in on the plan while we wait for everyone to get here."
The Hypnobrai nodded. "Lloyd, I'm sure some of the younger serpentine would like to hear more from you. They wouldn't stop talking about you after you left."
At least someone around here listens to me. "Sure."
A/N: Sorry for the wait. "Kai's Journey" should update soon. I hope you enjoyed and have a great day/night.
