This is it! I'm finally done! This is the last chapter of Living on a Few Dreams with a surprise ending!
I unfortunately received no questions about me or the story before this was written, so please enjoy the last chapter of Living on a Few Dreams! I worked very hard to get to where I am and I appreciate all the support you have been giving me on this series!
*Notice how this chapter's name is similar to the Wishes chapter finale except that one has Dreams and this has Memories.*
Seven Months Later
Ray POV
She had Mitch's eyes. The ones I adored for years and yearned for whenever I got into trouble. The ones that became the Prom King to my Queen and eternal lover.
She had my nose. Small, feminine, innocent. The nose that Mitchell Hughes fell in love with. The nose that smelt the flowers as I took each steps closer to the wedding platform. Closer to him.
She had Mitch's charm. Each time I was down on my luck, he cheered me up and made me feel belonged again.
She had my bravery. The bravery that lasted me through the worst years of my life. The bravery that led me to where I was on that Sunday afternoon, almost a month after little Claire was born.
My little girl's name was Claire. I knew I had to pay back Clara for her sacrifice. There was no better way to do just that than naming my child after my old friend.
On that Sunday afternoon, I woke up to Claire's crying. My eyes flashed open as I glanced over to the crib at the other side of the room, finding it empty. The door screeched open where I saw Mitch cradling our daughter in his arms.
"Is everything okay?" I mumbled, loud enough for Mitch to draw his attention to my location in the bed.
"Yup. Claire just needed her mommy." Mitch attempted to pass the baby off into my possession, which I would be unlikely to accomplish, considering I was still in bed.
"Let me wake up first. I thought it was something serious."
"Just letting you know… it's ten." My husband bit his lip, trying to pay more attention to Claire than my incoming anger.
I instantly sat up, staring blankly at Mitch. Ten AM was when we planned for the Team Crafted and friends reunion. I hadn't talked to Fia in what seemed like forever, and the others busied themselves with several weddings so we didn't have real time to sit down and talk. As I lifted myself out of bed, Mitch watched me travel to the closet, and pull out a white T-shirt and flared blue jeans with a pre-designed rip on the right knee. The corner of my eye spotted Mitch still in the room with the baby, and I raised my eyebrow once I realized he'd been staring at me the whole time.
"Will you give a girl some privacy?" I chuckled. "I need to change." As I leapt into the bathroom, turned on the light, and slowly closed the door, Mitch carried little Claire out of our bedroom room. I smiled, seeing Mitch being so fatherly already to our daughter.
Ten minutes later, I'd changed into my clothes, done minor makeup such as eyeliner and mascara, and slipped on fluffy light blue slippers. It took me faster to put on a fancy dress for the photo-shoot. I grabbed my iPhone and headed for the door. However I stopped and walked to my jewelry stand, taking out my Rachael necklace and clipping the silver so it stayed. I then hurried down the stairs and into the entertainment room, immediately meeting up with Mitch and taking Claire from his care.
"Ray! Hey!" Rouge shouted. She sat by Preston's side, his arm draped around her neck, leaning against his shoulder. I found it adorable for a couple like them. Each time I saw my brother and Rouge together, they looked cuter and cuter as a couple. I was happy for him. Preston deserved a girl like Rouge.
"What's up Rouge?"
"Nothing much. How about you?"
I patted Claire's back while glaring towards Fia. "Well, I'm waiting for Fia and Adam's wedding to happen."
"You have to wait just a little longer, Ray!" Fia squealed, almost being tackled by her fiancee. "I almost just got back! What about the planning and the large ceremony?"
I rolled my eyes, which made Fia chuckle. "I just can't wait!"
"That's good to know," Adam replied. He smiled down at Fia and kissed her on the cheek. I grinned, overjoyed for my friend. Weddings were always joyful moments in one's lifetime, and lately we'd been going to plenty of those.
Team Crafted and company had attended Quentin and Sapphire's wedding a week before. It was a beautiful ceremony and Sapphire looked gorgeous in her flowing coral blue gown with thin sleeves reaching the tops of her hands. Not to mention Quentin was a handsome Mudkip in his tux. We danced throughout the night and ate delicious blue-dyed vanilla cake. I got to know Poppy better that night, laughing about the stories we heard from Mat and Mitch about ASF. Carter sat down with us, explaining the stories Jerome told her, which were completely opposite of ours. Overall, Quentin and Sapphire's wedding was great.
Less than a month before, which seemed like a short time, Ryan and Emma had their wedding. The theme was superheroes so the happy couple forced Team Crafted and friends to dress up as heroes. Obviously Ryan was Batman and Emma was his Catwoman. Mitch and I wore Superman and Supergirl costumes. Most of that time, we hung out with Adam and Fia, who'd dressed up as Iron Man and Valkyrie from Marvel. During the party, Ryan and Emma hosted games similar based around superheroes with "powers" fighting against each other. I won none, but Mitch ended up getting second place to Ian during one of the rounds, which made him happy. And when Mitch was happy, I was too.
Jason and Brooke planned theirs two months earlier than Ryan's. It was entirely space themed. Held in a large planetarium ballroom, the ceremony and party reflected a peaceful yet exciting environment. Brooke wore a long navy blue strapless gown that fitted her at the hips, and floated down to her ankles. Jason's suit jacket and pants matched his bride's dress. Lights shining from the ceiling made the guests feel as if they were actually out-of-this-world.
Ian and Zee's was three weeks before. It was the most normal wedding I'd been to in a while, with Zee in a long traditional white dress and Ian in a black tuxedo. At the party, the guests made speeches and danced all night long. Mitch twirled me during every slow dance. Unfortunately, Mitch and I left early because of a flu I had at the time, an effect of being pregnant. But we still had fun and Ian and Zee were happy, and that's what mattered the most to me.
Kae and Seto's wedding was the first after Ty's, right after Fia left for New York, so she wasn't able to make it. Seto and Kae invited a magician to perform during the party, who we applauded and laughed with after he ended a trick or made a joke. I sat next to Kae during the performance, and once she mentioned Seto could do better magic, I burst out laughing, almost disrupting the show. However, once I realized I was too loud, I calmed myself down and giggled together with Kae. During the rest of the party, Megan, Emma, Lexi, Carter, and I spent most of the time pictures in the photo-booth.
Meanwhile, Dakota, Cloude, Mat, Poppy, Brotato, Megan, Jordan, and Lexi were engaged; Tyler was the only person in the TC house still single. When Fia returned from NYU, she vowed to find Tyler a girlfriend and even though he defended himself from her, she persisted through. At the time of the reunion, he was steady with a sweet girl who I liked named Holly. Tyler and Holly looked very cute together, but I wasn't quite sure he felt the same way about her than she felt for him.
"Claire is so adorable today in that dotted pink dress we bought the other day at Macy's." Carter and I went shopping for Claire's new clothes and she personally liked a light pink dress with large white polka dots, so I decided to put her in that during the reunion.
"I know, right?" I beamed, smiling and holding my daughter cradle-style. All of my friends were amazed with Claire's cuteness that everyone except Preston, Adam, Jordan, Lexi, Ty, and Crystal awed when she moved in my arms. She was the first baby to enter the TC house, so the group enjoyed those five months before Jerome and Carter had their son, Justin.
As our friends returned to their previous conversations, Mitch leaned over and whispered into my ear. "Can I talk to you upstairs?"
"Sure," I whispered back, shifting Claire's position so she faced the wall behind my back. Mitch led me to the doorway before Fia brought down one side of her shades out of confusion. I lifted my index finger to tell her where I'd be. She nodded and returned her shades to its original position. Mitch and I slowly made our way up the stairs and into our new room, which we'd traded with Ty and Crystal because theirs was larger and could fit an extra bed without taking up too much room. We sat down on the bed after I lied Claire in her cradle so she could take a nap.
I didn't notice until I sat that Mitch retrieved a small magenta metal box out of his pocket. When I saw him glance towards the cradle, I asked a strange question. "You're not gonna propose to Claire, right?"
"Of course not! I want to give her a welcome gift." Mitch opened the box to show me a thin silver necklace with the name Claire on it. I covered my mouth with my hands.
"It's beautiful," I told him, although he most likely couldn't hear me through my hands.
Mitch continued talking anyways. "It's from the same location I got yours from. They make these custom. I was surprised they were still in business after so long."
"I guess they had good business within the past few years…" I picked up the necklace with my thumb and index finger, examining the precise detail and resemblance to the one hanging around my own neck.
"Want to try it on her?"
"Definitely!" I stood and snapped the little necklace around my daughter's neck. She tried stuffing the silver in her mouth, thinking it was a chew toy, but she couldn't because she had no teeth. As long as the strap didn't break, which I doubted, Claire would be fine. The necklace would last almost her entire lifetime and she would buy one for her daughter too.
Mitch grabbed Claire's plastic milk bottle from our night table and started playing a very familiar rhythm.
"What are you doing?" I asked, watching the milk seep out from the top.
He placed the bottle back down on the table, turning to me. "To relive our memories of course. Claire needs to learn the Cup song."
I raised my eyebrow, "That was from four years ago."
"Things from years ago can still be good, right?" Mitch kissed my cheek. "That's how I found my way back to you."
"Technically I found you first at that motel." I laughed aloud.
My husband lifted our daughter out of her bed and sat her on his lap. "See, you're gonna have a lot of stories to hear from us." Mitch tickled Claire's stomach, causing the baby to let out a innocent giggle. "So…" He turned back to me, "You gonna sing?"
"Mitch!" I gasped, "Not right now! We have guests downstairs!"
"She needs to know before it's too late, Ray!" Mitch gasped. "How dare you let Claire out of such an important moment in our lives!"
"But… Singing in the car…? With Jerome…?" I sarcastically asked.
Mitch nodded, no realizing I'd been joking around. "Yeah."
"Fine." I groaned, holding back a giant grin. "But only part of it right now."
"Okay." Mitch placed little Claire back into her cradle. After doing so, he held onto the bottle once more. "Deal."
I sighed and motioned for Mitch to begin playing the beat. Glancing over into Claire's cradle, I found her bright brown eyes staring into mine. They reminded me so much of myself and Mitch that the resemblance was uncanny. I would love spending my years by Mitch's and Claire's side as they grew older and became even more mature and loving towards me and what I'd been through.
"I've got my ticket for the long way 'round
Two bottle whiskey for the way
And I sure would like some sweet company
And I'm leaving tomorrow. What d'you say?
When I'm gone, when I'm gone
You're gonna miss me when I'm gone
You're gonna miss me by my hair
You're gonna miss me everywhere, oh
You're gonna miss me when I'm gone
When I'm gone, when I'm gone
You're gonna miss me when I'm gone
You're gonna miss me by my walk
You're gonna miss me by my talk, oh
You're gonna miss me when I'm gone."
"You're more than my teammate. You're my soulmate. I love you Mitch. Goodbye."
"I love you too… What?!" I looked up and glanced over to Ray in the bed next to me. Her eyes were closed and the heart monitor had fallen flat. I stiffed my position, felt warm tears roll down my eyes, and held tightly onto Ray's hand, "Ray… I love you…"
This was when Jerome entered the room. He saw Ray and I, and ran over to us, "I'm so sorry, biggums."
"I will always love you." Before I left her side, I noticed the Rachael necklace strapped around her neck. The same one that I bought her for her birthday.
I had no idea that this moment would have come so soon. I knew that Carter's would come eventually, but me? It had been a week since I returned. There were issues that had to be solved. There were people that I needed to deal with. But I couldn't help but think that Mitch and I would be perfect together.
Back to reality, I gasped and placed my palms over my mouth as Mitch opened the box to reveal another diamond ring. I examined it first and realized that the words Rachael and Mitch were inscribed on the ring itself. As I begun to cry, Mitch asked the life-changing words.
"Rachael Anderson, will you marry me?"
The music played louder as I begun my walk to the platform. Similarly yet different to the previous attempt, closer to the doors I thought of Preston, who I had to celebrate this joyous moment with, and my parents, who I still missed dearly. Towards the middle, I noticed Caleb, who now stood next to Jade, holding hands. Luna and Bobby sat to their right, and I could only imagine my own ironic moment with those two couples. I chuckled. Taking a deep breath, I came closer to the stage. This was when I remembered all of the good moments with Mitch and I. Meeting Mitch in history class, my 18th birthday, my first kiss with him, his offer to prom, prom itself, saving me from Caleb and Rebecca, singing This is Me with him at the talent show, winning the talent show, Minecraft, and finally the arguments. Why the arguments? Whatever it took, Mitch and I always came back to each other. Each time we fought or lied, there was always a way. Then I remembered I had canceled the wedding three times, and this would be the one I finally got right.
Then I remembered her tough past. I thought I had it hard… bullied, being an outcast most of my life… but having parents who loved me, and still do… Ray didn't. Eventually, after deep thinking I realized the he she mentioned combined all of the forces who threw away her childhood. The car crash murdering her parents… almost killing Preston… Ray didn't sing that song for Clara's sake… She sang it to get over her own past… and move on towards the future.
It was just another normal day. Summer was getting closer. Since the weather was nice and sunny, I wore a blue strapless blouse and white shorts. My three inch silver high heels glimmered in the light coming from outside. Long silky brown hair hung from my head, occasionally fixing it myself from time to time. My brown eyes sparkled in the light from my shoes. Whenever I answered a question, it was easy for all the eyes of the boys to get a glance of me because I sat in the middle of the classroom. In the duration of class, a loudspeaker went off.
"Hello students. This is your principal speaking. Since the end of school is only two months away, we have to choose the awards for our seniors." My class cheered. "Come to my office for an application for valedictorian sign-ups. Remember, prom is coming up as well, so get prepared. Tickets will be sold at the student store for ninety dollars each. That is all for now. Have a good day." The speaker's sound system popped, causing the students to cover their ears in pain. Once the pain disappeared, the history teacher, Ms. Rudolph, continued scribbling notes on the board using her piece of white chalk. All of the sudden, a familiar boy walked through the door. The boy had dirty blond hair and brown eyes. He wore a red, brown, and white plaid jacket over a white T-shirt with blue jeans. Black sneakers were tied on his feet.
How was I to know that this stranger would be the one I would fall head over heels for? To me, he seemed like an ordinary guy… or was he?
Thirty-Eight Years Later
Rachael POV
I cross my arms and smirk, playing around with the necklace my mom bought me when I was young. It has the name Rachael customized into the silver. "And that was the story of my grandmother," I conclude.
"Wow," my naive best friend Sam comments, amazed, "So you got your name from your grandma?"
"My mom told me all about her. She said Ray was a great woman, so she named me after her mom."
Sam nods, impressed. "That's pretty cool."
"Yeah. I know right?" I gasp, turning to my radio set, now completely digital. "I almost forgot!" I press a button and say, "Anna Kendrick. Cups."
"What song are you playing?" Sam questions, glancing over at my radio set, curious.
"The song my grandparents sang to my mom. It's called Cups. It's a really old song… but they always said that things from the past can come back and give you good luck. I'm hoping that happens to me. I want to find true love like the rest of my family did."
My friend shakes her head in disbelief. "Rachael, those ideas are just in your dreams."
I smile, thinking of a perfect reply to her comment. "Sam, all I need are dreams. And a bit of memories and wishes to go along."
That ending! Any of you guys expect that?! I think not! It was last minute on my part as well! I thought it would play great as a conclusion! And… Oh my goodness… I'm crying right now. This is a sad moment when a beloved series such as mine comes to an end, but you well know that Legend Part 2 will be arriving sooner than later. As a farewell to the Living on a Few Memories trilogy, I gathered a count of words, views, followers, favorites, and reviews combined from all three stories!
Words: 19,946 + 59,550 + 75,524 = 155,020
Views: 15,417 + 20,998 + 7,626 = 43,761
Followers: 41 + 43 + 33 = 117
Favorites: 46 + 44 + 27 = 117
Reviews: 107 + 272 + 243 = 622
Wow! Without your help and support, these fanfics wouldn't have gotten to where they are now! So give yourself a round of applause! *clap clap*
*OC interrupts during applause*
Ray: Hey.
Me: Why are you interrupting my ending?
Ray: Aren't you forgetting the most important person in the making of the series?
Me: Who?
Rachael: YOU! Everyone! Give a hand to the writer herself, raydoesminecraft!
*clap clap*
Ray: And now I'll be off to spend my happy life with Mitch, Preston, and Claire in LA. Hope to be part of your lives sometime in the future! It's been fun! Don't forget to check out my young Minecraftia self and her friends in Legend Part 2, which comes out very soon!
Me: What she said.
All songs and musicals referenced do not belong to me. Hit List belongs to the TV show SMASH. Most of the OC's don't belong to me either. Here's the ones who appeared in Dreams!
