Tumblr prompt from Re-sile: Nine/Rose, Meadow, Weather, Map
"I told you this wasn't the right way," said Rose, turning the map so that it faced the opposite direction. "Thought you could feel the turning of the planet and all that, but you can't find the city we're trying to get to?"
"Don't really use maps, me," the Doctor replied. "Don't need 'em. It's been a while since I've been to Grontharn, though. Forgot the rotation changes at different times of year."
"Lot of help you are," she said, softening the words with a tongue-touched grin in his direction.
"Don't see you finding the city," he retorted.
Rose yawned.
"Getting a bit knackered, now," she told him. "We've been walking for hours." She studied the map again. "So where are we on here?"
The Doctor glanced at the map.
"We're not," he said.
"What?" asked Rose. "Did we really walk that far?"
"No," said the Doctor. "That map is from Glom."
"Glom?" she said incredulously. "Why did you give me a map of Glom if we're on…Gronthum?"
"Grontharn," he corrected. "You asked if I had a map, and that's the one I had."
Rose folded the map and handed it back to him.
"Least it's a nice day," she said with a sigh, looking around her at the flower-strewed meadow.
"For now," he said, continuing his walk through the grass.
"And what's that s'posed to mean?" asked Rose.
"Tends to rain here without any warning. Clouds don't follow the normal patterns, what with the planet shifting all the time," he said, sounding unphased. "If it starts raining, we'll want to take shelter."
"Why? Is it dangerous?" she asked.
"Nah," he replied. "Bit cold, though."
As if on cue, the pair suddenly heard rain splashing on the grass behind them. After a quick glance backward, the Doctor reached for Rose's hand, smiling, blue eyes flashing excitedly. He met her eyes as she let him take her hand, his smile increasing almost imperceptibly as he said just one word.
"Run!"
