Disclaimer: What do you guys think?
Ok, so quick bit of info of my version of Dick Grayson before you read, Dick/Robins first language was Romani (I had to use Romanian translations), and he is of gypsy decent.
And this chapter/one-shot is Dick thinking to himself, just so y'all know…
Goodbye
"Goodbye."
Ugh. How he hates that word, no, he loathes that word. Well… not so much the word itself, more so the implications of the word.
Goodbye.
He has no problems with 'Bye', 'See you later', or his favourite, 'Stay whelmed', maybe it's because he's so used to hearing them from the people around him…
'Farewell' isn't so bad he supposes… Alfred uses that one a lot… but he doesn't really mind much, it's almost like saying "I hope you fare well in whatever you face"… Of course sometimes it sounds more like, "I hope to see you again though, I doubt I will" Or, "I hope I don't see you again though, I know I will", depending on the tone of voice Alfred uses when he says it…
But... 'Good. Bye.'
It's so finite. So final. Almost like saying "Good riddance" or "I hope your leave is good, since I won't ever see you again", or "I'm sorry I won't see you again, all I can do is plaster a fake smile on my face and hope I don't make you worry or see how I'm falling apart inside."
Ok, so maybe that last one was just him… whatever, back to the point.
Goodbye.
It's what you say to your parents as their coffins are being lowered into the ground, what you say to the butterflies you raised in science class when you release them outside, what you say to a comatose uncle on life support when the plug is finally pulled…
Maybe… maybe that why he hates the word 'Goodbye' so much… he never did get to tell his parents goodbye… or his Aunt Karla, or Cousin John either…
But he guesses it doesn't really matter why he hates the word, though he'd bet any therapist would argue that belief with him for hours, Black Canary especially, she loves to dig deep to "find the root of the problem", but whatever, He can live with the dislike of the word…
However, he'd have to be careful around some of the more perceptive people in his life… he was pretty sure Alfred had noticed his avoidance of the word as the elder had taught him English, as well as while he observed him learning various other languages…
He doubts Bruce has noticed… he tends to be a bit blind to minor things like that, at least minor things like that when they have no relations to their "Dynamic Duo work"…
He doubts he'll ever be able to detach the word 'Goodbye' from the idea of it representing finality. An end. A finite notion. 'Goodbye' will forever to him represent those final moments with his parents, watching their coffins being lowered into the ground, so they could rest forevermore, never again to help their "Little Robin" fly…
'Goodbye' will forever to him be linked to an end, the end of " The Flying Graysons", the end of his family, the end of his childhood, the permanent shattering of his wings…
"La revedere unchiul Rick, spune-le pe toate le iubesc ... Îmi pare rău ... Îmi pare atât de rău, la revedere, te iubesc." (Goodbye Uncle Rick, tell them all I love them… I'm sorry… I'm so sorry, goodbye, I love you.)
Wow… that's kinda depressing… Anywho! Ok, so I've decided to just start publishing random one-shots that come to mind, there isn't gonna be any order or sense to them really, but they all will focus on Dick Grayson/Robin/Nightwing somehow, even if it's in someone else's POV, if you guys have any ideas you wanna toss my way, I'm all for it, I love hearing others ideas, so read, review, and help me fight off this writers/motivation block!
Peace, love, and Dick Grayson!
