Written for 'The Star Challenge' for the star Adara. I chose the prompt 'write about Lily Evans'.
THE PRICE
Lily Evans shared everything with her older sister. Her sister had always been there for her. She'd taken care of her, she'd helped her out with homework, she'd given her advice, she'd told her stories. She was like the big sister everybody dreamed to have.
From the age Lily could talk, Petunia was like a diary to her. Lily would tell her everything that went on in her life.
Every little triumph; "Tuney! Look what I just did!"
Every little mistake; "Please help me, if mum and dad find out!"
Every little problem; "I think I left my coat at school Tuney, can you please help me look for it?"
Every little secret; "There's this cute boy in my class. I think I really like him."
It was so ingrained that sometimes Lily still thought Petunia was there to tell things to.
As Lily sat in Charms, and said "Wingardium Leviosa!" and watched in amazement as her feather lifted up from the table and started floating in mid-air, she was so proud of herself. It had been her first ever successful spell.
Full of excitement, Lily turned to tell her sister what had happened.
And then she remembered.
Her sister no longer loved her.
Lily's smile faded and was replaced by pursed lips as she tried her hardest not to cry.
This was the price to pay for going to Hogwarts and learning to do magic.
This was the price of losing her big sister forever.
And it was a heartbreaking price.
