Jane hesitated as she reached for the doorknob. She'd accomplished what she wanted to by coming here. At first she wasn't so sure about it. Would Maura really care? Should she? But ultimately Jane decided that either way it couldn't hurt. Turning back to the man and woman watching her out of the hotel suite she took a deep breathe.

"Look, I just wanted you both to know that this means a lot." They both nodded but remained silent. "Not just this, but what you guy have been doing the last couple of months. The letters, the phone calls to her and your grandchildren. She may not say it…but she's happy."

"We know she is, Jane." Constance held on to her husband's hand as he walked closer to Jane, patting her on the back. "We've seen just how happy you've made our little girl."

"Yes." The man added leaning in closer to Jane. "This means the world to us as well. Thank you for your consideration." Giving her shoulder another squeeze he stepped back to wrap an arm around his wife. "You should get going."

Jane nodded silently, twisting the knob and opening the door. "Mr. and Mrs. Isles-"

"Constance."

"Richard." They both said at the same time.

"Right." Jane said with a slight blush. "I'll see you both at the ceremony."

Richard smiled contently and waved. "Goodbye, Jane."

The brunette woman walked out the door without a word. Walking to the elevator she couldn't contain the smile that spread across her face. She hadn't expected it to go that well. For the past two months, her girlfriend's parents had become part of her life. It all started with one curious question from Jacob. "How come we don't see Grand-mére and Grand-pére anymore?" Maura couldn't find a reason good enough to justify why her parents were so strained from their grandchildren. Why they were so strained from her.

So that evening, Jane sat with Maura as she made that tough call. They were by no means completely healed from years of astringent, but with both sides willing to work at it, they had gotten stronger in their relationship. Boy were they skeptical of her relationship with Jane, but over time, they began to see her as the rest of the family did. Not to mention how happy their daughter was with this woman.

Jane patted herself on the back as she exited the hotel and climbed into her car. She hadn't expected Constance and Richard to freak out when she came to visit them this morning but she hadn't expected them to be so agreeable to accept.

Before she could pull out onto the street, Jane's phone buzzed in her pocket. Looking down at it she smirked at the text from her girlfriend.

I don't know what to wear.

Jane still couldn't fathom how the blonde never knew what to wear. Her closet was a daunting abyss to Jane.

Wear that green dress…or the black one. Or jeans. Either way you'll look amazing!

The green dress, or black one, or jeans…thank you so much for you expert help, Ms. Rizzoli.

Anytime, babe.

Just hurry home and help me, please. Where are you anyway?

Jane frowned down at her phone. She hated lying to Maura.

I told you have to pick up flowers. ETA 15 minutes.

Estimated time that my clothes are coming off, 10 minutes.

Cranking the car and slipping her seat belt on Jane, sent a quick reply before pealing out of the parking lot.

ETA…5 minutes.

Maura watched as Jane walked quickly over to her. Weaving in and out of the families on the green space. When she finally made it over she quickly ended the call, stuffing the phone back in her pocket and looking over to the questioning gaze on her girlfriends face.

"Everything okay?" Maura asked lacing their fingers together.

"Yeah. Just Susie freaking out about the Wentworth Project. Something about the scheduling being off." Maura raised her eyebrows. "It's fine. I just reminded her that we hired her because she's smart and that's the reason we left her in charge."

"But are you sure we shouldn't run by the office today? I mean everyone is used to at least one of us there to deal with crises."

"Baby," Leaning over to kiss the blonde on the head she whispered, "We've had more success in this business in the past two months than I expected. And it's not just because of us. They can handle it. Besides…I also reminded her that it's her bosses' day off and we are spending it with our family."

Maura kissed one dimpled cheek. "Yes. Our family." Jane reassured her girlfriend with a squeeze of her hand.

"Alice! Over here!" The teenager quickly spun around to find her family in the crowd of excited graduates. She spotted her brother first as he bounded toward her, grabbing her hand and dragging her over to the others. One by one she went around and hugged and thanked all of them. Her uncle Colin was the first to wrap his arms around her. Next were her grandparents, then Angela who kissed her loudly on the cheek, then her father who held her close, Tommy, Frankie and finally she stood in front of her mother. Her strong mother who now had tears in her eyes.

She slowly leaned into the woman's arms and held on tighter willing the tears in her own eyes to go away. "Mom."

"I'm so proud of you, sweetheart." She gently kissed the side of her daughters head and leaned back to look at her.

"We all are!" Angela piped up.

"You're speech was absolutely inspiring, dear." He grandmother said.

Before Alice could get another thank you out to anyone she was grabbed from behind and spun around. "Especially the part about me," Jane said as she set the girl down. To her surprise the girl turned to face her and lunged into her arms.

"Thanks, Jane."

"You're welcome, Sunshine." They stood steadily in each other's embrace before a clearing of the throat got their attention. Turning around to face her father, Alice welcomed his touch as he pushed back her hair.

"The ceremony was great. And you're valedictorian speech was…I didn't know you could write like that." She gave him a shy smile. The past month she'd been trying to be more open with her father. She'd forgiven him per her mother's wisdom, but she would never forget. And he knew that. "Anyway, I should be going."

"You're not going to lunch with us?" Jacob asked as he joined his father and sister. Immediately Ian looked up and over to Jane. The woman stood tall with one arm wrapped around Maura and an unreadable expression on her face.

"Um…Not this time kiddo." He gave the boy a tight hug before glancing at his mother.

"Maura." He simply said, to which she replied with a practiced tight lipped smile. He looked once more at Jane. They exchanged short nods before he smiled once more at his daughter and slipped away into the crowd of people.

"Well." Colin said. "Let's go eat!" They all laughed releasing the awkward energy into the air. Each person had someone to hold onto as they all walked toward the parking lot.

"I can't believe you bought the whole restaurant, Jane!" Came the muffled cry from Jacob as he stuffed the remainder of his cake in his mouth.

Jane chuckled as she reached across Maura handing the boy a napkin. "I didn't by it, kid. Just…cashed in a favor."

"It's a very fine establishment," observed Constance as she looked around Gilberti's. "Quite, comforting."

"You know mother. Jane and I actually had our first date here."

Richard's ears perked and he leaned back laughing as his plate was cleared from the table. "Dinner. Very traditional, Jane."

Everyone looked expectantly at the brunette who seemed off in her own world. She was gazing down at the table leg bouncing up and down until the woman beside her placed her hand on her thigh to stop it.

"Huh?" It was silent before Alice changed the subject sensing her unease. They all looked knowingly at each other with small winks and anxious smirks, but Maura studied the brunette for a bit.

Lowering her voice she asked, "Is everything okay?"

Dark eyes darted from Maura to her untouched cake. "Yeah. Fine. Why?"

"Nothing. You've been acting a bit out of it that's all."

"Maybe I'm a little more worried than I thought. Not going in to work today."

Smirking, Maura tucked a piece of dark hair behing the woman's ear. "Are you sure you don't want to at least call the office and see if-"

"No." Jane made a gesture with her hand. Swiping it through the air as if she could physically push the idea away. "No, everything's going to be fine. You'll see." Sparing one last look at her girlfriend Jane turned to Frankie and stared into his eyes. He looked back at her before nodding subtly and standing.

"Tommy!" He shouted louder than he needed to. "We should get going, right."

With half a roll in his mouth he shook his head and swallowed. "No way. I'm not done yet." It seemed that a smack to the back of his head was all it took to change his mind. "Oh, right yeah. We're going to go."

"Hey kid. I just got the new Madden 2015 game. Want to come over and see if you can beat the champ?"

"Whoa!" The brown headed boy swiveled so fast to his mother that he almost fell off his seat. "Mom, can I? Please!" He begged.

"Jacob. I told you that we were spending the day with your sister."

The girl hummed from across the table as she stood to her feet also, looking down to her cellphone. "Sorry, mom. But Morgan invited me to her graduation party."

"When were you going to tell me about that?"

"Um," Alice glanced quickly over to Jane who was rubbing at the back of her neck. "How's now?"

With her mouth open, Maura shook her head. "And it begins." Angela, seated beside her, whispered.

Releasing a sigh Maura rolled her eyes. "Okay. Just let me know when you'll be home and be careful." She called out as she watched her daughter already walking out of the restaurant.

"What about me mom? Please. Can I got with Uncle Frankie and Uncle Tommy! Please?" The blonde startled a little as she hadn't even seen the boy approach her. Eyeing the grinning faces of the Rizzoli sons and then to her girlfriend who was staring off offering no assistance at all, Maura kissed the side of the boys head and gave in.

"Of course. But be good. If I get one bad report-"

"You won't," Tommy promised as he threw his arm around the boy's neck trapping him in a headlock.

"Yeah, we're good together," Frankie threw over his shoulder as they too made their way outside.

Angela and Constance continued to talk as they both rose to their feet collecting their jackets. She sputtered loudly as she saw her brother and father do the same. "Wait. Where are you all going?"

"Oh, well I was just going to show you mother a few recipes. She was telling me how she wanted to start cooking again and apparently my Janie raves to everyone about my cooking. Right, Jane?" The brunette nodded with her lips pursed together.

"Right." Colin bit his lip in an attempt at keeping his laugh inside. It seemed that the tall confident woman had gone completely mute the moment everyone started to leave and he just couldn't resist a chance to screw with her. "Um, dad and I are going to get drink. You two want to join?" He looked at Jane for a response and without too much time passing he got one.

"Yes." Maura said at the same time that Jane had shouted a resounding no. They all turned to her as her cheeks reddened in embarrassment.

"Um. No we are…uh."

"I'm just kidding. Dad and I have to talk business anyway. See ya." He quickly gestured for his father to follow him in his escape from the sharp daggers being thrown at him from the brunette woman.

"Wait!" Maura said standing as they all retreated to the door without a backwards glance; leaving only her and Jane at a table that not even five minutes ago held nine people. Flopping down in her seat with an exasperated sigh she looked over to her girlfriend who had been quiet throughout the bizarrely abrupt end to the graduation dinner.

"What the hell just happened?"

"I don't know. Hey," Jane said quickly turning to fully face the woman. "You want to go for a walk?"

The blonde sat blank faced and blinking at her girlfriend. She felt like she was in the twilight zone. She went to speak several times, but found she couldn't as her mind was still trying to figure out what had just happen to her family.

"Come on," the brunette said standing and taking the woman's jacket, holding it out for her to put out. "I know a place."

"Do you remember our first date?" Without thinking Maura tightened her grip on the other woman's hand.

"Of course I do." She nuzzled her face closer to Jane as they both sat on a bench facing the harbor. They had left the restaurant as dusk reached the sky and walked for half an hour. Cuddling together on the bench Maura closed her eyes and savored the moment. Ten months ago she wondered what would happen next. Divorced. Two children. High Demand Job…loneliness. Never did she imagine that she would find romantic happiness.

Holding on to Jane's left hand and squeezing her arm with the other hand, she opened her eyes. "Well, I was so nervous that I wouldn't get you home in time and Alice would catch us that I cut the third part of the date."

"Really?" Maura questioned nipping the tip of Jane's ear. "Because I thought what we did on the couch was supposed to be the next part of the date." Maura's voice was warm as she purred into her ear and it sent a slight shiver down Jane's back.

Smiling and slipping her arm over her girlfriend's shoulder Jane gently kissed the side of the smaller woman's head. "No." The blonde sighed contently and pressed closer to Jane's side. Continuous tapping of Jane's knee bouncing up and down brought her attention to the slight anxiety wafting from the brunette.

Sitting up in concern she took in the way she bit her lip and how her eyebrows furrowed. "What is it, Jane?"

Pausing for a second Jane waved her hand toward the water. "This…This was the third part of the date. The walk. Sitting here." Understanding Maura looked around them smiling. She placed her head on the brunette's shoulder and in response Jane took a deep breath and closed her eyes as she spoke.

"When I first started working for up I thought…that you were the most intelligent, beautiful, intimidating woman that I'd ever met. I mean really scary Devil Wear's Prada kind of woman."

Without lifting her head Maura scoffed. "Thank you, honey. So eloquent."

Squeezing Maura's shoulder Jane chuckled. "You know what I mean."

"Yes."

"You're an amazing, talented architect. And your heart…is so fragile and so strong. I'm really honored would let me in, Maura. Especially after everything you've been through."

"Well you're-"

"No, just," Jane sat up sliding further away from her on the bench to take Maura's hands. "Just listen."

The blonde tilted her head slightly in confusion. However concerned she was about her girlfriend's behavior, she ignored it staying silent.

"I was hurt. And for so long I thought that," She looked down to her scarred hands, "no one would ever love me again. But I was wrong." She smiled weakly looking up into hazel eyes. "You do. You love me."

"I do…Oh sweet girl." Maura felt her chest tighten as she reached up to wipe away one tear that had fallen from deep brown eyes.

"I enjoyed working for you. Learning from you. And these last two months…our business is growing. And I couldn't be happier with my career working alongside you. You have such a," Maura watched as the woman seemed to lose her breath reaching up to cradle the blonde's head. "I've never seen anyone with such a passion, Maura. I love it. I know I'm not the most open person and I'm stubborn…And,"

Jane struggled as her voice broke and tremble over the one syllable word. "And I can be over competitive and my family…well," she chuckled and Maura couldn't help but do the same. "You've met them. These past five months dating you have been so eye opening and filled with ease that I never had with Amanda. With anyone.

"You love me and…I," Looking down Jane swiped away another tear taking a deep breathe. Shoving her hand in her pocket she held tightly to the small velvet box in her hand.

"Oh, God." Maura gasped as she watched her girlfriend pull the ring box from her coat pocket. She placed one hand over her mouth as the brunette sank to one knee grasping one of her hand.

Jane took a moment to gather herself forcing her tears away. She looked up into Maura's eyes with such intensity that she let a whimper slip through her fingers covering her mouth.

"I love you, Maura Isles. I may have a dark past, and I may be intolerable but I will…God, Maura I will love you for the rest of my life. You deserve everything and I will give everything I am to give it to you. I love you. And I love and adore Alice and Jacob. And if you give me a chance I will honor you and shower you all with love and appreciate you for the rest of our lives."

Maura couldn't control the tears that streamed down her face as her eyes fluttered closed. Her lip trembled as she tucked a dark curl behind Jane's ear. Her mind whirled with emotion. She knew that she wanted to spend the rest of her life with this woman. In fact they'd spoken about it and the fact that Maura had once been married was brought up and whether or not she'd ever want to be married again. But how could this compare. Her relationship with Jane was nothing like the train wreck with Ian. It was so much more.

Maura released a shuddered breath as she watched the woman kneeling in front of her open the box. She gasped looking down to the white gold band. There was a sizable blue diamond in the middle surrounded by several smaller diamonds.

"Baby," Jane husked as she held the ring up. "Maura. Will you marry me?"

"Yes!" was Maura's immediate answer. She barely waited for the woman to ask before she responded. Standing up Jane laughed as Maura flew toward her throwing her arms around her neck. The brunette held securely as the smaller woman repeatedly said her name soaking her jacket with tears. Leaning back the taller woman kissed her wife-to-be before taking the ring from the box and glided it onto her fiancé's manicured finger.

"It's so beautiful Jane."

"It's was my Nona's. She was the first person I came out to. Said she'd always known" Jane smiled down at it. "She gave it to me on my eighteenth birthday."

"Oh." Maura slightly frowned, but when Jane reached down to cup her chin and kiss her softly she couldn't help but give in.

Though she pushed her unspoken concern aside, Jane seemed to read her mind. "I didn't give this to her."

"What?" Maura stuttered.

Drawing the shorter woman into her by her hips Jane gave Maura a peck on the forehead. "Amanda. I bought another ring for her. It…It wasn't for her. Wasn't right. This is yours, Maur. All yours. And I promise-"

"No," Maura interrupted putting a finger over Jane's lips. "I promise. To care for you and treat you with respect. And love you hard. God, I love you so much, Jane."

"Te amo, Bella." Maura leaned in and embraced her fiancé. They stood there in bliss rocking slightly in the wind.

Suddenly Maura pulled away. "Did Alice know about this?"

"Of course." Jane said before chewing on her lip. "Jake too. I asked them if it was okay to marry their mother. They're important so I had to make sure they felt the same way."

"Really?" Maura wondered as she smiled dreamily.

"Yeah. Everyone knew except you. Your parents too. I asked for their blessing this morning. I know they haven't been amazing, but they're trying now. Plus I kind of owed them for getting Ian out of my way." She laughed only half kidding.

"That's very thoughtful, Jane." She rubbed one finger across the woman's bottom lip. When a twinge of pain crossed the blonde's features Jane placed one hand on the small of her back.

"What's wrong?"

"Nothing it's just," shifting a little Maura looked down to her feet. "I didn't estimate this much walking."

Laughing with her head thrown back Jane raised her eyebrows. "I've told you about those stilts."

Pouting Maura countered, "But they matched my dress. And you were absolutely no help in picking out- Jane!" She shrieked loudly as she was swiftly lifted off the ground. Jane twirled her once carry her a few feet, an arm around her knees and the other under her back. Maura quickly grabbed onto Jane's neck laughing airily.

"What are you doing?"

"Say no more. I'll carry you. We walked in a circle so the car is actually only a few blocks down," she spoke already walking.

Maura brought her lips to Jane's ear kissing it before torturously slow licking the outer shell. "You don't have to," she whispered

Looking over to her beautiful fiancé, Jane laid a slow kiss on her supple lips gently biting. "I'm always going to be here for you baby." She whispered back.

"Jane Rizzoli. Always assisting." Maura said smiling.

"Damn right," Jane answered grinning. "I'm always here to assist."
