And So They Stay,

And So They Wait,

Forever.

Kakashi wasn't breathing.

Yet they stayed.

Kakashi was cold, and covered in mud and blood.

Yet they stayed.

They were in a strange place. It was only them and the creatures around them.

Yet they stayed.

It was cold and wet. It was night and they couldn't see.

Yet they stayed.

Kakashi Hatake, copy ninja, and jounin of Konoha has died in battle against a no-name ninja who meant nothing to no one.

Kakashi was covered in wounds, the biggest being a gaping hole that once held his heart.

And they stayed.

Eight dogs of various shapes, colors, and species. Pakkun, Buru, Bisuke, Uhei, Guruko, Urushi, Shiba, and Akino. All loyal ninja hounds who were assigned to Kakashi the day he signed the contract. They didn't like the arrogant boy,

Yet they stayed.

Kakashi wasn't a very good alpha and he fumbled a lot; putting them in danger half the time,

Yet they stayed.

Kakashi has saved them all at least once. Soon he began to treat them like extremely intelligent pets, treating them like friends.

And They Stayed.

Kakashi found a new pack in the kids and teens he was paired with. They weren't forgotten, more like shoved away for the time being.

And they stayed.

Kakashi didin't always call for them.

Yet they came.

Kakashi hadn't called them today. He wanted to protect them.

And yet they came.

Too late.

Kakashi died smiling, telling his beloved dogs; 'Good dogs. My beloved good dogs'.

And they stayed.

Nobody came yet. It almost seemed like no one would come.

And so they stayed.

Kakashi was put on the stone to rest.

And so they stayed.

And later, they rested as well.

No ending because a dog's love and loyalty never ends.

No one knows this, because it didn't make it into The Book, but on the eight day, before God went to rest, he looked down his at people, and said: "They Need a Companion."

So God made a Dog.

And it is by far, his Greatest Creation.
