Mrs. Kincaid had been teaching second grade at the primary school for eighteen years. She never had dealt with any cases of abuse, though she would like to say that she could have spotted one. But she did have an abused child. And she didn't even notice. Harry Potter. One newspaper article got Mrs. Kincaid thinking about the quiet boy with the baggy clothes and taped glasses. He had taken down a terrorist and several of his followers according to the newspaper. That prompted her to look up Harry Potter's files.

Writing assignment 1: Write about your bedroom at home.

My room is really tiny. It is smaller than Dudley's. It is very dark. It only has one light. I have a hanger for my clothes. I have a cot in the corner. There are spiders in there. I named one Mac.

Very good, Harry. Remember to put a plural for hangers.

Writing assignment 2: Write about your family.

My parents are dead. They died in a car crash. I remember lots of green light and someone screaming. I think that was the car crash. Aunt Petunia said they liked to drink a lot and that they never worked. Aunt Petunia has a really long neck like a giraffe and likes to spy on the neighbors. Uncle Vernon likes yelling at people. He also likes punching people. Dudley likes to punch people too. He also likes food. I don't like my family.

Harry, you have a very nice family. Be grateful for what you have. And I'm sure your uncle and cousin don't punch people.

Writing assignment 3: Write about you favorite dream.

My favorite dream is that a black haired man that can change into a dog will fly in on a motorcycle and rescue me from the Dursleys. He would make them feel bad and then we would go and live happily ever after.

Why would you want to leave your aunt and uncle's? And why would you want them to feel bad? You must have been mad at them when you wrote this.

Writing assignment 4: Write about your favorite present.

My favorite present was Dudley's old watch. That way I can tell the time, even if the face is cracked.

Harry, I'm sure you've gotten better gifts than that.

Writing assignment 5: Write about your favorite place.

My favorite place is the park. Dudley doesn't like to go there, so he can't bully me. My aunt can't yell at me. My uncle can't beat me. I don't have to be sent back to my cupboard. I'm alone.

How did she not see it before.
