Hi loves!

Here's the final chapter. I know it's short, but it hopefully has a good ending. I'm working on a one-shot series, so I may include some stories in that.

Disclaimer: I only own Firestar

Chapter Seven

Merida POV

Merida stepped off of Firestar, and was greeted by her mother's angry face striding towards her.

"What on Earth were you thinking, Merida! That is not how a lady acts!" Eleanor exclaimed, but Merida stood firm. She looked past her mother, towards her father. Fergus and Stoick were both approaching the two with the lords and their sons behind them.

"Dad, I've chosen the man I want to marry." She said, and the heirs all perked up, their fathers looking at them eagerly.

"Well, which one is it?" Fergus asked, and Merida smiled, looking at Hiccup and taking his hand.

"I chose Hiccup, future chief of Berk, and rider of the Night Fury." She replied, and Hiccup grinned widely.

"Absolutely not! I will not have my daughter marry a barbarian!" Eleanor shouted, grabbing Merida's arm and pulling her away from Hiccup.

"Mum, please listen to me! I'm happy here on Berk. They've made me feel safe, and I feel like I belong here! I don't want to go back with you, and I don't want to marry one of the heirs to the clans!" Merida said, her voice pleading. "They aren't barbarians! I know you and Dad were offended when Valka offered suggestions for my name, but can't you let that pass? I just want to be happy, Mum." Eleanor paused, looking at her daughter.

"No child of mine will ever interact with Vikings." She spat, and Merida ripped her arm out of her mother's grasp, stepping back as Toothless and Firestar crouched in front of their riders protectively.

"I'm sorry, Mum, but you're not taking me away from Berk. I love you, and Dad, and the triplets, but you can't see that for the first time in my life, I'm happy where I am." Merida said, and Hiccup took her hand once more, holding it tightly. Eleanor lifted her chin, looking down on the redhead.

"Very well. Then you are not my daughter." She said, her voice eerily calm. The queen turned and left the arena, followed closely by her husband and the members of the other clans. The triplets remained, looking up at Merida with wide eyes.

"Does this mean we'll never see you again?" they asked in unison, and Merida knelt, pulling them into her arms.

"I'll send you letters whenever I can, boys, and I promise that this isn't the last time we'll see each other." She said softly, kissing each of their cheeks. "I love you three very much, and I want you to know how proud I am of you." Hamish, Hubert, and Harris stepped back, beaming at their sister before running after their parents. Merida turned to look at Hiccup, who immediately pulled her into a tight hug.

"I'm so sorry, Mer." He told her, and Merida leaned into his hug.

"I'll be okay." She replied. She looked past him, and focused on Stoick and the others. "If it's alright with you, Chief, I'd like to stay on Berk with everyone." Stoick smiled widely, placing a hand on her shoulder as he looked at her fondly.

"It would be an honor, Merida." He replied, but the redhead shook her head.

"Kara. My name is Kara now." She told him, making Hiccup grin, and Gobber chuckled.

"Now, I believe that there's a celebration in order for a certain betrothal?" Gobber asked teasingly, making the two blush, but they smiled at one another nonetheless.

Five Years Later

A red blur sped through the air, followed by another black blur.

"Come on, girl! We can beat them!" a masked rider said eagerly, urging the red Fire Fury on.

"Let's go, bud!" the masked rider of the Night Fury encouraged. The two dragons flew alongside one another, streaking across the ocean. The Fire Fury reached a cliff, and touched down, only a moment before the Night Fury landed. Both riders dismounted, and removed their helmets.

"We won! Nice job, Firestar!" Kara said, laughing elatedly as she scratched her dragon's scales. The young woman had changed over the years, cutting her wild mane of red curls so that it reached her shoulders, some of it braided. She now wore a dark green skirt, brown leggings, and a gold shirt, covered by thin armor. A bow was strapped across her back, and a quiver of arrows hung from Firestar's saddle.

"Well done, m'lady. You have earned this win." Hiccup said, grinning at his excited fiancé. They were out for a flight only days before their wedding, excitement filling both Vikings. The two dragons curled up beside one another as Kara and Hiccup sat down on the edge of the cliff, Kara relaxing in Hiccup's arms.

"I can't believe we're getting married in a few days." Kara said, smiling happily.

"It feels like a dream. Like the best dream ever." Hiccup replied.

"I know. Even though it's been years, I still feel like I'm going to end up waking up back in Dunbroch to Eleanor's shouting." Kara said with a small flinch, and Hiccup rubbed her shoulder gently. Even though they hadn't spoken to anyone from Kara's past, she had maintained contact with the triplets, and had even invited them to the wedding. Kara didn't regret leaving her family, happy with her decision and the life she had chosen. She felt Hiccup shift next to her, and looked at him questioningly.

"What's that?" he asked, pointing towards the horizon, where smoke was billowing up. They both stood, and looked at one another.

"Let's go find out." Kara said with a teasing grin. "Race you?" She ran to Firestar, jumping onto her back as Hiccup ran to Toothless. They took off with shouts of joy and excitement, ready to face whatever would come there way together.

Well it's done!

Let me know what you think, and if you have any ideas for future one-shots :)
