Hey everyone! Sorry it's been a while since this one-shot collection has been updating. In light of recent events in the manga, I decided to take a break from working on the next chapter of Raincloud Princess in order to make an angsty Gajevy fic.
WARNING: SPOILERS - Contains spoilers from Fairy Tail Manga Chapter 487

"Solid Script: Grace!"
The word exploded into existence before the tiny mage who had struggled upwards to stand once more. The blinding calligraphy seared into the darkness that held Gajeel. Bradman let out a scream, the celestial script magic tearing at his flesh. The iron dragon slayer fell to the ground with a dull thud as Bradman's dark form shrinking away from the light of Levy's attack. The woman gritted her teeth, thrusting the flaming script toward the reaper with all her strength. His screams grew louder as he shrunk away into the underworld, until suddenly the glen was filled with a deafening silence.
Levy dropped to her knees beside Gajeel, her legs too weak to support her any longer. Desperately she felt for his pulse, panic rising in her throat as she found none. A cough shook her body, the metallic tang of blood heavy on her tongue.
"Gajeel... Gajeel, no..." Red-tinted tears fell on the dragon slayer's chest as Levy cried. "No! I won't let you die Gajeel, I won't!"
She placed both hands on his chest, squeezing her eyes shut tight and sending up a prayer to whatever god might be listening.
"Solid Script: Life!"
The flowing cursive appeared like liquid fire on the dragon slayer, the word forming a tether of glowing golden power between the two mages' wrists. Pantherlily started toward her, but stepped back as the pair began to shine with blinding light.
"Levy! What are you doing? You know the costs of that spell!"
Levy didn't answer. She knew, but she had no strength to say it aloud. Even at full magic power, Solid Script: Life was dangerous, but with her magic all but consumed by the magic barrier particles and her last attack, she cast the spell with her lifeforce instead. The spell burned through her veins, ripping away the little energy she had left. She could only pray it would be enough, but if it wasn't... Then at least she could be with him once again.
The tether snapped. Levy collapsed on the ground beside the dragon slayer, pressing her hand against Gajeel's neck with her last remaining strength. There was no pulse.
Her hand fell to the ground. Her lifeforce was used up. She barely even had the strength to let out a sigh, let alone to mourn the man who had died to save her. Her eyes closed. A rest sounded so nice...
"Levy?"
The groan was soft, but it was there. It gave Levy just enough strength to crack open one eye and see Gajeel's red gaze resting on her.
"Gajeel," she breathed. Her throat tickled with another cough, but she couldn't quite muster the energy to do anything about it.
"He was gonna drag me to hell."
"I know."
"I woulda deserved it. For what I did to you."
Levy slowly slipped her fingers into Gajeel's open palm.
"It's not a sin to fall in love."
They fell silent once more, their ragged breathing the only noise in the glen. Pantherlily sat against a tree near the clearing, allowing them their space.
"You used your lifeforce, didn't you? We might both die now."
"Yeah."
"Why would you do that for me? Give up your lifeforce for just the chance that I might live?"
"Stupid Gajeel... What use was life if I couldn't spend it with you?"
He laughed half-heartedly.
"Well I guess we'll be together either way now," he mumbled. His fingers closed around her. "Together forever?" He turned his head slightly, trying his best to give Levy an encouraging smile. She smiled back.
"Forever and always."
Hope you enjoyed! As always, please review!
