Hellooo, EVERYBODY. It has been a long time. In this chapter, you all are finally going to find out about the war between the vampires and the werewolves, and what Elena's role is in this war. I hope most of your questions about this story is answered. Enjoy!
All was still.
Elena slowly opened her eyes and looked into Alaric's looking down at her. He slowly lowered her down to her feet. She stumbled a little as she looked around her surroundings.
It was a dark room. The walls and the ceiling were made of dried mud. It was breathless inside with almost no air and the heat was uncomfortably warm.
Alaric took her by the arm and led her to a circle of candles where a veiled woman stood in the middle. Elena's heart started to beat faster when she caught the sight of a sharp dagger in the woman's hand.
She panted. "A-Alaric, why did you bring me here?"
"Once you step inside that circle, not one vampire will be able to detect where you are, even I wouldn't be able to hear you."
"Alaric!" She firmly stood her ground. "That doesn't make me feel any better. This is fucking crazy. Are you trying to kill me?"
The veiled woman lifted the dark veil over her head to reveal her face. Still, inside the circle, she approached closer to the edge and lifted her hand for Elena's.
Elena stared at her with widened eyes. She knew that face. It was Emily.
"E-Emily? What is she doing here?"
Alaric sighed and dragged her by the arm in a quick pace. "Ask all the questions to her, sugar. But keep it short. We don't have much time."
Emily only smiled with her hand still waiting patiently. Elena was still unclear of this but Alaric made the decision for her by carrying her and dropping her into the circle. She turned her back from Emily and watched Alaric stand outside of the circle, his hands still on his back. He gave her a firm expression that she was all too familiar with back in the auction; it was a look he gave as a sign to go along with what he planned.
She could breathe again. Strangely, the temperature was cool in the circle as if they were outside.
"Don't be afraid, Elena. This won't take long."
Elena slightly jumped when she felt Emily take her hand. She slowly turned around.
"S-So no one could find us?"
"For only an hour. The spell I cast here is not permanent, but it is enough time for us to discuss of the rebellion."
"A spell?..Are you a w-w-itch? Shit."
"Yes. Forgive me for not being able to tell you the first time we met, but my identity had to be secret. I'm afraid there are a lot of surprises for you today, Elena."
Elena stepped back from her with a gasp. "Wait, wa-ait. Did you say rebellion? L-Listen, Emily, whatever this is about I don't want any part of this."
"I'm afraid you are without a choice, Elena. This rebellion involves the future of humanity – that includes your family. If you don't, Jeremy and Jenna may never see you again."
"That can't be. I have gone this far to protect them. They're going to be okay, Emily. I-I…Oh fuck. I wanna get out of here. Please, I want to go back."
She watched Emily's smile widen. But it didn't look genuine. "Go back to what exactly, dear? A life as a slave? I had you brought here to tell you that this rebellion is the only way for freedom. This has been planned for years since we found you in that camp, Elena. Alaric's decision to choose you for that auction was no coincidence; it was expected to happen exactly as all of us planned.
"W-Who is us?"
"There is a lot for you to know, Elena. So listen carefully."
Katherine was someone I knew personally.
She was on her own with no family and a line of deadbeat boyfriends she relied on to crash on their couches. She had little money and little hope in life. But she was more than a pretty face. From what I remember what she was capable of anything, she was dangerously clever-minded.
One night, one of her boyfriends sold her to the vampires. At the time, humans were free and vampire businesses between humans were done privately through human trafficking.
Another auctioneer like Alaric picked Katherine to be one of the very first female blood donors. And low and behold, Damon happened to choose her in the first female blood donor auction. Elijah chose her too but just like what happened to you, Damon was quick to cash than Elijah.
Damon and Katherine were immediately in love, at least, that is what Katherine made him believe.
At the time, the vampires were very generous to the witches and left us alone. But Katherine wanted to control and no longer be a slave to nobody. So I was determined to stop Katherine when she schemed a plan to take over the vampires. I was..sadly too late.
One of the witches, the very youngest was under her influence. Katherine plagued that poor girl's mind to persuade her to be on her side. Together, the young witch cast a spell so forbidden it took her life. Overnight, all the vampires praised her as their queen. Her plans immediately changed from killing them to using them. Because there was one thing Katherine wanted and it could only be granted being a vampire: eternal youth and power.
She had the power to have each and every one of the vampires to kill themselves by one order. But she knew bringing back the humans, she will be nothing to them, not like how the vampires were under the spell and praised her as their ruler.
Powerful vampires like the Mikaelsons saw what witches were capable of so they turned to us and used us for our magic. Some of us died to please them. We all had to hide and we never appeared ever since.
I had to kill that girl myself. It took one poison in her wine that took her life. Damon couldn't let her go completely. He froze her body and kept her locked in a room in the house you have been imprisoned in. There are days when he goes in that room to be near her. But since you came along, he only visited her once and never again.
But even with her gone, humans and my people – the last few witches left – are in danger and the damage Katherine caused is still unsolved.
Elena's knees numbed she almost lost control of them. Her hands immediately grabbed onto Emily's arms before she lost her balance.
Elijah was telling the truth...She really was that powerful.
Every word Emily has spoken spun in Elena's head. All this time, she knew so little of this Katherine Pierce – a vampire who Damon loved so much and resembles her so identically, including the information Elijah shared with her that clearly resembles what Emily has said is now for certain not lies. Knowing the further truth of this girl only shook her that she resembles such a terrible person who betrayed humanity.
"I know this is a shock. But this is where we need you."
Elena shook her head. "I look like a traitor, Emily. Why would you need me? I..I feel guilty of having this face. I thought I was part of something – the people back in the camp where I came from…"
"Don't lose yourself, Elena. There is a way for all of this to be right and that is to begin a rebellion. This rebellion is to make peace for all of us. How long will all of us wait for families to be kept in camps and sold for the vampires? How many other children like that boy you saw are going to be voiceless and tortured so vampires won't be childless?"
"..Is Katherine responsible for what happened to Matt? Like all the other children?"
Emily nodded her head. "Katherine is the one who thought of all of this. When she became the beloved queen of these vampires, she was already a vampire and she devised all the plans on what to do with the humans. All the homes were taken away from the humans and they were handed over to the werewolves. Turning the children to vampires was a very popular idea that she received high praise for."
Tears stung Elena's eyes. Her hand immediately covered her mouth. The flashing images of what she recalled of what Matt went through were clear in her mind.
"The children are sent to these facilities where they are strapped to beds and bitten without choice. Eternally they have to live in the child form for life and live like the monster they never wanted to be. You remember what you saw of what Matt went through. How his own sister was turned and bit him. Are you really going to step aside and do nothing, Elena?"
Elena shook her head. She dried the tears from her eyes and dropped her hand from her mouth. "What if I do help you?...What happens to the werewolves and the vampires?"
"Elena, when we start this rebellion, you have to understand that we have no choice but to kill as many werewolves and vampires that get in our way. When we win, I will imprison them with a spell and they will never have access to the humans again. The werewolves will never roam free and abuse anybody. And no vampire will remember the taste of blood again."
"Wait."
Elena looked back at Alaric. He still had his back turned from them. Emily's hand took her chin gently and turned it for her to look into her eyes once more.
"Yes, including Alaric. Alaric is aware of the consequences when this rebellion succeeds. You see, Elena, he was very happy to be human but turned against his will. You may remember him as a strong-headed business man, but day by day I watched him and saw how ashamed he was to be the monster that he is to the humans that he used to be part of."
"That's..suicidal."
"Listen to me now, Elena, my spell will wear off soon so please listen to what I have to say."
"Wait a minute, I don't know if I could agree to this."
"Whether or not you agree once you leave here, at least know this. If you side with the rebellion, this is what you must do."
Kill Alaric..Mason and…D-Damon. No. No, I don't want any part of this.
"Alaric will explain what you have to do. But the overall plan is to use you and fool the vampires you are the resurrection of Katherine. In the meantime, when you return to Damon, find Katherine's body and destroy it. We have to make all of this believable to everyone, including Damon himself."
"Emily, this is happening all too fast."
"No, my dear, it hasn't happened fast enough."
