November 1982

Dear Narcissa,

Just a quick note to make you aware that Astoria Jemima Greengrass was born at 5.20 this morning, weighing 6lb 13oz. She's a healthy little beauty who takes after her mother and sister. Daphne is very pleased at having a sister, Richard keeps pointing and saying 'bubba.' which is rather adorable. Both mother and baby are well and Jemima wishes that you pay a visit when we are home later on this evening.

I'll look forward to your reply.

Yours,

Neil Greengrass.

Narcissa smiled as she folded the letter and placed it on her dressing table as she started to brush her hair. Receiving the news that her best friend had given birth was a joyous occassion and she had decided that she would go and buy baby Astoria a gift. It was as she was deciding if she should buy the baby girl an outfit or a stuffed teddy bear when Lucius entered their bedroom. It was rather early for him to have a lunch break, it was only eleven in the morning.

She could tell that Lucius was in a bad mood, for usually he greeted her with a kiss and started a conversation. But he crossed to the wardrobe and didn't even acknowledge her sitting at her dressing table.

"Lunch break already my love?" asked Narcissa.

Lucius nodded and went to change into a pair of clothes that he usually wore at home, making Narcissa aware that her husband was finished at the Ministry for the morning and was going to be working from home. She didn't know what was bothering Lucius but it was when he was bad moods like this that she was rather glad at having an opportunity to be going out with Draco.

Her husband didn't engage in conversation with her, once he had changed he went out of the room. Narcissa was finally ready and met the nanny at the door who had Draco dressed smartly for the day. She left the house with her son and spent the day shopping in Saliunca Alley, purchasing both a dress and a stuffed teddy bear for baby Astoria.

She treated Draco to lunch at the restaurant where she and Lucius had had their first date, feeling rather proud that her son ate nicely and didn't protest about having to wait for his meal. When they returned home at half past two that afternoon, she found Lucius in the living room reading the paper.

"Draco, go and play."

The boy nodded and headed up the staircase, the nanny following him shortly after. Narcissa took off her cloak and entered the living room, placing the shopping bags at the foot of the sofa before taking a seat next to her husband. She gently patted his leg and he looked over the top of the paper at her.

"Are you going to tell me what's bothering you?" she asked.

Lucius sighed and folded the paper before chucking it onto the coffee table.

"I'll be honest with you Cissa, lately I've been thinking about this family."

Narcissa nodded but didn't say anything.

"My parents are moving to the family home we have in France so that the manor is ours. With the absence of my parents, it will be just us, Draco and the nanny. The manor will be quite empty."

Narcissa raised an eyebrow and smirked, knowing full well where her husband was going with this.

"Narcissa, I'd like us to try for another baby." Lucius sighed.

She chuckled slightly, causing Lucius to look slightly offended.

"Darling, is this what has been bothering you this entire time?" asked Narcissa.

He nodded, "You said that you didn't want another child anytime soon."

"That was at the start of this year. I wouldn't mind trying to conceive again."

Lucius grinned and placed a heated kiss on her lips before standing up and helping her to her feet. As they walked up the stairs to their bedroom, Narcissa giggled.

"What is it, Narcissa?"

"When I said I wouldn't mind trying, I didn't think you wanted to start right now."

"Better now than later."

With that, Lucius kicked open their bedroom door and quickly led her inside. Both eager to try and give Draco a little brother or sister.

The next day, Narcissa walked down to the dining room to have breakfast with Draco. She sat next to him after giving her son a kiss and helped herself to some fruit.

"You seem quite bright this morning, Narcissa." said Evelyn.

"Lucius and I had a good dicussion last night." she replied.

"About?"

Narcissa blushed slightly before answering, "We're trying for a baby."

"Oh that's wonderful." Evelyn gushed.

Draco looked at his mother confused.

"Mummy."

Narcissa turned to her son and gave him a bright smile.

"Yes my darling?"

"Are you and Daddy having a baby?"

"Not yet Draco, but soon."

Draco's face fell and he started crying loudly. Narcissa leapt out of her chair and picked Draco up to comfort him.

"Draco, what's wrong?" asked Narcissa.

"Y-y-you w-won't l-l-ove m-me."

"Oh darling, I love you with my whole heart."

"But you replacing me."

"No we're not darling." Narcissa reassured.

"I don't want to share you, you're my mummy!" Draco wailed.

Narcissa looked as Lucius entered the room, both knowing that if they had another child now then it would cause Draco to feel like he was being replaced. There was no reasoning with a two and a half year old. And it was because Draco was the most important thing in their lives that both Lucius and Narcissa decided that he was enough for them.

A/N: This is the end of The Malfoy Family, thank you to all those who have read/reviewed/followed and favourited this story. I'm writing a third installment of this called What It's Like To Be Loved By You, which will focus on Draco and Astoria's relationship but references will be made to this story and A Change of Heart. So please give this new story a read, and if you still want to read my Lucius/Narcissa works there is still To Love and To Cherish which is still being written.
