Part 19: Final Judgement

(Yes! This is the final part! I actually got my act together and finished it!)

Didi kept rambling. "His son knows. He visits them."

"Excellent."

Her bravado faded. "You knew? Lee Adama told you?"

"No! Not a word! And I've steered our conversations towards the subject several times. He usually changes the topic. Sometimes, however, he's completely lied!" Romo clapped his hands together.

"You're happy Lee Adama has lied to you?" she asked, confused.

"Yes! You really would have to meet Lee to understand. He's noble. Virtuous. Ethical. These are not good traits for a politician."

"You really are a piece of work," she muttered.

"Presidents have to make tough decisions. Sometimes the right thing is not the smart thing. Up until this moment, I was unsure whether or not Lee Adama could ever do the smart thing over the right thing."

"Romo... You can't..."

"What?"

She couldn't believe she'd even told him this much. "She's dying. Doctor Cottle visits once a month and administers her treatment for advanced breast cancer. Throughout this investigation I've been looking at her photographs, and yet when I met her... She's nearly unrecognisable."

"No faking?"

"No. Bill Adama is an old man. Broken. Tired. But I believe he'd do anything to protect her. If you try and expose them..."

"I'm not going to expose them, Didi," Romo said, his tone sincere. "I told you, I just needed to know if Lee had the guts to do the job."

"You're going to run for vice-president?"

"Maybe."

"You will," she avowed, confident.

"Maybe. You'd really resign?"

"You need a new lawyer. I won't be so naive again."

"True. What if I offer you a different role?"

Despite everything, she was intrigued. "What role?"

He tucked a stray piece of hair behind her ear. "Do you like the sound of Second Lady?" he asked softly.

She licked her lips. "Maybe," she agreed.

-The End-

Yes, Bugs says I have an annoying habit of always wanting to pair up every minor character, and I did it again. And yes, Laura… *sniff*
