Chapter 1: The Elevator Connection

It was never supposed to end up like this. I was supposed to run away with Gale and never enter the games, but now with this fake marriage arrangement and the upcoming tournament I have to play along for the sake of my family and friends. That is, until I I met her.

Peeta and me had rushing thoughts flashing through our minds as we neared the opening ceremonies of the next games in the elevator, and that's when I saw her. She introduced herself as Johanna; she had a smooth, slim face and piercing eyes, almost like a razor had already been slicing through my chest. Her vibrant hair was slung into a ponytail and a sly smirk was sprung across her face. She noticed me glancing over from time to time, and I swore she was doing the same. Trying not to lose my composure, I kept glancing over at Peeta afterwards to give him a nervous but reassuring smile. I remembered Johanna from the training practices, quick and sneaky even with the slightest move. She was quick with an axe, and I suddenly felt the urge to become her ally.

She started some small talk but until the next events occurred, I didn't remember anything else about her. All of a sudden, I noticed her starting to strip down her clothes and look around at Peeta and Haymitch as well as me. I tried not to make eye contact and I felt my hands getting clammy, looking away and wanting to smack Peeta's arm as he gave her the once-over. I looked back, finding myself intrigued by her long, smooth neck. She gave me a quick wink and smile, wishing us luck as she picked up her clothes to leave the elevator. As she passed us, she leaned in and placed a delicate hand on my shoulder.

She let out a small laugh, wiping some of the sweat off my neck slowly with her finger and placing it slowly into her mouth. I remained calm and composed as I noticed neither of the men could see, keeping a straight and stern face even after her final whispered words before she exited the elevator.

"I'll see you in the arena...Girl on Fire. We're going to be having all kinds of fun."
