In a single moment, her entire world seemed to have flipped. All of the rules and guidelines she had known suddenly disappeared. There he was, her Prince…proclaiming his love of her. If Tauriel was a smart woman, she would have turned and told him she did not return those feelings. Yet as it seemed, she could not remove herself from the close proximity of Legolas. His face angled towards her, hands gently grasping her own.
Which God had she angered? What deity had she crossed to deserve such a cruel fate? To have him, and yet not have him at all? Tauriel's mind swam with the possibilities; of what their future would hold if she followed his lead. Would that be wise? Of course not but her mind screamed for her to once more toss out reason, to follow what she believed was right. Was it not better to marry for love? Was love so impossible for the two of them? Happiness, surely trumped any political marriage.
Of course it did not, simply because of how their world worked. Commoners, were simply told to stay put. Do not tempt the seas of fate, such as she had done months ago. The dwarfs were right; elves did not do well with change.
Could she truly put Legolas in the middle of that war? With his own father? With his people?
Her hands shook within his, trembling at the world beneath their very feet. If she dared to look up at him, her resolve would wither and die. For those words had already broken the fragile barrier around her heart. He held her in every manner, heart and soul. Could she deserve such pleasure? Such an honor?
Her lips quivered, suddenly parched and unsure of herself. Changing the very fabric of their relationship, she was left open and exposed. For once, Tauriel did not even feel like a warrior, but of an elven maid, attempting to express the deepest emotion she had ever felt.
"You pierce my soul, Legolas. I am half agony, half hope...I have loved none but you."
The warmth his breath left upon her cheek had her in awe, grazing his jawline as they closed the small gap between them.
His arms held her tenderly, although Tauriel suspected he would not so easily let her go if she had chosen to turn.
"Do not let me cause any anguish to you, I simply cannot let you hide within the shadows for another moment."
Tauriel managed a small laugh, feeling like a small childish girl. Had he always been so observant? It was quite possible, that in every moment she felt alone that Legolas had been at her side. Whether or not she had been aware of it, perhaps she was not in another galaxy. Perhaps, she was in the same one as him. For once, there was no secret glances, no hidden meaning to their banter. For once, they were simply an elven man and woman; deeply in love.
"Am I allowed such happiness?"
Leaning into their embrace, she could not help but smile into the fabric of his clothes. Legolas did not seem to mind, tightening his arms around her. The party could wait, she decided. So long as he was here with her, everything else in the world could wait. The stars could be falling from heaven but so long as she was with him, was not all right in this world?
It was not however, simply because their world is not fair. The most obvious reason being was that of the dozen royal families laying wait for the return of the Prince to choose his future wife. Yet how could he choose another? Had they not professed their love? Would this not in turn, set in motion events that would lead her to be at his side? Not simply as a companion or captain, but as something more?
"Tauriel, I will not have anyone who is not you at my side. My heart cannot hide itself a moment longer, it belongs to you and you alone. It cannot be persuaded nor ignored"
Legolas's truth laid out before her, asking her willingly to take his side. She had once gone against her King for her heart, once again she would do the same. Legolas, had done the same. Once more they were willing to turn against the very man who raised them for one another. Was their love strong enough to withstand another battle? Would they win this battle, or crumble under the weight of their actions?
"Then let us not ignore it a moment longer, for I cannot stand here and ignore my own heart"
His words prompted her actions, empowering her to tilt her head back to capture his lips upon her own. While Legolas was used to such bold actions, it seemed this was one that he was prepared for. All of the years of their adoration, of their love spilled into a single moment of union. His lips ached as they pulled away, breathless and warm from their kiss. Nothing would steal Tauriel from his side, or at least it would be a terrible day for whomever decided to tempt fate and separate them. Legolas, had decided the moment she spoke of her love for him that no man, elf, nor dwarf would ever find themselves between them. Not even his father would have the power to persuade him otherwise. If his people were to have him as King, they would accept Tauriel as their Queen.
