Okay, so I know it's been like 2-3 years, but I'm lazy as hell and I honestly wasn't planning on updating this until people started to like blow up my notifications for this.
I don't own either Harry Potter, or KHR.
The Vongola ballroom was packed: guests mingled with one another, music was playing in the background, and there were lines to dance with the guests of honor. It was a great party, and Tsuna could proudly say that all of his guests were having a good time...except maybe Ron and Harry, who were brooding at a table as Hermione made plans with Enzo and Viper.
"We can't take them there, it's too rough." Hermione said, waving her hand as if to dismiss Enzo's suggestion. "Why don't we take them to that one place with the flaming drinks? You know, the one we went to for Daddy's birthday a few years ago." She said, eyes darting from Ron and Harry to Enzo and Viper.
"Too mundane, we've got to take them to a place in Witches Way." Viper said, shaking her head at the idea. "As much as I love Tortugas, that can't be the first place we take them to in Italy."
"Ooh, we should take them to that bar in Venice! The one where we did tequila shots last summer." Enzo said, eyes bright at the idea of going back to the bar.
Hermione made a face of disgust. "I didn't like that place, it has a pool in the back and I found a pair of underwear in a bush." She said. "How about the coffee shop down the street from the church? It has a good tea selection."
At that Viper and Enzo both made sounds of approval, looking excited by the prospect of nice tea selections.
"Do we get a say in any of this?" Ron asked the three, interrupting whatever it was that Viper was going to say.
The three stopped talking and turned to look at the two wizards. They were trying to think of places to take the Weasley's and Harry to while they stayed in Italy, but they couldn't think of any places that they usually frequented that wouldn't scare the bunch.
"Of course you do, but you don't really know anything about Italy...we figured that you wouldn't understand anything we're saying." Hermione said, shifting in her seat awkwardly. "We just want to find a family friendly place to take you to...you know, to make up for the whole mafia party stuff."
"There's a restaurant in Rome that has free cheese plates, you know how much I like free cheese, Hermione." Viper said, not looking up from her phone where she was looking for places to go. "And they give you a bottle of wine for the table. Hermione, we gotta go!"
Hermione laughed. "Where is Fran? He always chooses the good places."
"I think I saw him dancing with your mother earlier." Harry said, trying to be helpful. Now that he thought about it, half of the room was trying to dance with Chrome so he wasn't so sure that his input was any help at all…
"He's always trying to dance with her, he's got a childhood crush on Chrome. It would be cute if the brat wasn't annoying." Viper said, waving Harry off. "I say we go to the place with the free cheese and wine and be done with it."
Hermione groaned and turned to Ron and Harry. "Are you guys okay with going to the place with free cheese and wine? Of course we would be paying for everything so the price shouldn't be something you worry about at all." She said, knowing that the words 'free' and 'we're paying' would make it seem more appealing to them.
"I would ask mum and dad, not me." Ron said, searching the ballroom for his parents. He saw them chatting with the couple who Ron was pretty sure was expecting a baby.
Hermione followed his line of view and cursed. "Well, I'm not going to be the one that interrupts them." She said finally.
"The soldiers are gonna keep your parents occupied for a while, I would lose all interest in talking with them for the rest of the night…" Viper said, swiping a glass of wine off of the tray of a passing waiter. "Colonnello probably wants to make sure that they're doing this whole 'first time parent' thing right and yata yata." She said sounding more bored than Harry and Ron remembered ever hearing her.
"You two should dance, I'm sure you would have more fun dancing than standing here listening to us chit chat." Hermione said to Harry and Ron, gesturing to the large dance floor in front of them where nearly everyone in the room was enjoying themselves, including most of Ron's family.
Harry and Ron shared pained glances. Dancing was not something that either of the two were very comfortable with, especially when it was with a large crowd of people who they knew were all involved with the mafia...since it was a mafia holiday and everything.
"We'd rather not actually." Ron said, more bite in his voice than was probably necessary in this situation. He knew that Hermione was only trying to help, but it was just a little too much for them at the moment.
For what it was worth, Hermione gave them an understanding look and leaned close to the two while Viper and Enzo bickered about something or another. "If it makes you feel any better I wasn't allowed to come to these things for more than a few hours when I was little. Daddy wanted to slowly ease me into this. You guys can go back to your room if you aren't comfortable, no one will blame you." She said sincerely.
It was a truly beautiful offer, and the two would gladly had taken the offer if they knew how to get back to their room and not accidentally get lost in the halls of the mansion. They knew that the maids were all informed to help them out if they got lost but it just felt weird and Ron secretly worried that the maids were going to judge them for getting lost.
"Go and dance with your parents, I think your Papa has been circling us for at least ten minutes now." Harry said, turning Hermione gently to see where Mukuro was indeed watching them closely. Harry was almost afraid to touch Hermione at all after what Kyoya had told them this morning and after Tsuna had given him a long talk earlier he was reluctant to do anything incase it angered one of them.
Hermione laughed, short and harsh in a way that Harry assumed her family brought out of her and quietly dismissed herself before floating over to her Papa and wrapping her arms around him tightly.
"She's happy when she's here." Enzo said, surprising Harry with his comment. Harry was pretty sure that him and Viper would still be arguing for a while.
"Has she told you that she wasn't happy at Hogwarts?" Harry asked curiously. He could practically hear Kyoya shouting at him about how him and Ron lacked in the supportive friends category and wondered if Hermione thought so too.
Enzo shrugged. "Not my place to tell you, my man, but I can tell you that she was making herself crazy keeping this from you. She would come home every summer and go ballistic over what to do if you lot asked to come over to her house for a change. Of course we planned for that day." He said proudly.
Harry made a noise that Enzo took as a question.
"Tsunayoshi has a house in England, in most important countries actually, and we had it staged and everything so that when the time came she could bring you there and see how things played out." He shrugged and Harry got the sense that he was disappointed that they never got to use the stage house. "It's a beautiful house man, you're missing out." He told Harry in complete honesty.
Harry was finding that Enzo would be a rather nice friend to have. Maybe that's what it was like to have friends in the mafia; nice and charming and willing to put together a fake house to make you feel better. He was sure that when angered the results would be less than charming.
"Enough about this, I can practically feel 'Mione glaring at us from the dance floor. How about we get some food? Ron, you want food?" Enzo shouted over the music. It was constantly changing gener's, and was now some loud techno music that Harry was sure the Dursely's would immediately disapprove of if they heard it.
At the mention of food Ron happily picked himself up from his chair and ventured off with the two to the buffet line that was graciously set up for the guests.
"Do you think bringing them here was a good idea, Papa?" Hermione asked, wrapping herself around Mukuro's side when the two were tired of dancing. She was watching Harry and Ron interact with Enzo with the eyes of a predator, almost like she was waiting for one of the three to mess up, cause some sort of problem that she would have to fix before any bloodshed.
Mukuro put his chin on top of her head. "Kufufu, I think that it was a good idea. You were going to have to tell them eventually." He told her.
"What if I never told them? What if after everything with Voldemort is done with I just never talk to them again and it just never happened?" She asked, taking a deep breath just to release it in an even deeper sigh. "What if after all of this is over they don't ever want to talk to me again Papa?"
"Oh, my darling, then they weren't worth your trouble...and your Father would buy you a whole ship full of new, better friends." Mukuro tried to joke.
Hermione swatted at his chest lightly. "Oh stop that, I'm trying to be serious." She said.
"And I was completely serious about your Father buying you new friends!" Mukuro said, before he sighed deeply. "I think that bringing them here was for the best, and if they never talk with you again after knowing the truth than I don't think that they aren't worth your time. Then we can have you all to ourselves again." He cooed, rubbing his face into her hair and affectively messing up the intricate braid that her hair was in.
Hermione couldn't help it, she giggled and pushed him away gently. "I'm just worried that everything is going to be different now." She said softly, circling her arms around herself.
"Everything will work out just fine darling girl...how about we take them to that nice restaurant in Rome, the one with the free wine and cheese plates." Mukuro said, wrapping his daugher up in his arms like he used to when she was little.
Hermione couldn't help but laugh. "Viper wants to take them there. You know how she is when the words 'free' and 'cheese platter' are in the same sentence together." She said by way of explaining to her Papa between her fits of laughter.
"Is she dead? Did you kill our daughter? We can't get a refund, she's too old now." Hayato said, walking up to the two of them with a sour look on his face.
Hermione shook her head and waved him off. "I'm fine. Him and Viper just actually agreed on something and now the two of them can't claim to not have traits." She told him, wiping a fake tear from her eyes. "Oh I have to tell Mom about this."
Hayato laughed freely at the look of utter horror on Mukuro's face. "Let's go find Chrome." He said, a savage grin on his face. If there was one thing that they all still enjoyed it was fucking around with one another.
"You will do no such thing. She's dancing with her husband right now and we all know how terrible he is...I heard that he set an entire village on fire once." Mukuro said in a stage whisper, a deeply offended look on his face.
The other two rolled their eyes fondly at him.
"You're so ridiculous Papa." Hermione laughed. She was smiling freely now and didn't seem to be worrying over what the Weasley family and Harry were thinking about her and her family, which her fathers took as a good sign.
"We're getting ready to do the show." Hayato said, wrapping an arm around her tightly. "We've got to go get the swords." He told her.
Mukuro raised an eyebrow. None of them were allowed to know what the two of them had planned, so the mention of swords was enough to get him curious. "Oh, so there's swords involved in your attempt to woo Chrome?" He asked carefully.
"Yes, there are." Hermione said simply, head held high. Last year Mukuro had gotten their plan out of her months before Mama Appreciation Day and had ruined the surprise ever since then she swore that she would never tell him what she had planned again.
"Are these swords on fire?" Mukuro asked gleefully.
"No." Hayato and Hermione said sharply. It was best for them to get the involvement of fire out of Mukuro's head as quickly as possibly or he would try to get someone to set something on fire for him.
Mukuro looked put out, but none of them wanted to see him start a bonfire out of Kyoya's nice suits again. It was a story that Mukuro told with great joy and Kyoya told with great hatred and a story that Tsuna told with great exasperation and just a bit of fondness.
"Let's go, darling." Hayato said, pulling her away from Mukuro before he could influence her to do something stupid.
"We'll see you later Papa!" Hermione called out from over her shoulder, a large grin was plastered on her face and Mukuro felt like he could die of happiness.
By this time of the night everyone aside from the regular residents of the house, the Varia (who only really came to these things to watch), the Arcobaleno (and Byakuran), and the Weasley family had left to celebrate the rest of the night with their mothers. Tsuna had learned that it made everyone happy at the end of the day if everyone in the famiglia had a giant party for a few hours and go home to finish their day together.
"Alright, so who is ready to get started?" Tsuna asked when the ballroom was cleared out and it was only them left. He was met with a large shout of excitement that everyone gave as one. It was decided when Hermione was adopted that Nana and Chrome would co-judge them all because it was too complicated and long to have it separate from one another. It was a little odd, but it worked for them nicely.
Chrome, Nana, and Molly were seated in the middle of the room in large, plush chairs that they brought out only for Mama Appreciation Day (custom designed by Hayato for them), with drinks of their choice while the rest of them stood or sat around them.
"Who's up first?" Mukuro asked. He was sitting at Chrome's feet with multiple bowls of food spread out around him and in his lap.
"Only the hat can tell you that." Hayato said as he shook up the hat that contained everyone's names. Once they adopted Hermione it got difficult to organize this part of the day, everyone wanted to go first and no one wanted to go last so the easiest solution was to pick names out of a hat. "Except, me and Hermione are going last because apparently that's a new rule." He shot Tsuna a mock angry look while Hermione looked pointedly at her Daddy for a moment before all of her attention was returned to the bowls of candy lying around her.
"We had a vote, and you know i Hayato." Tsuna said, reaching into the hat to pull a name out. "Lambo, I-Pin, are you two ready?" He asked.
The two exchanged looks before nodding and jumping up to go to the platform that was in the ballroom for bands to play at.
"So, we actually didn't have time this year to prepare a talent for you two." I-Pin said, looking rather ashamed. "Our school year was...hectic…" She admitted.
"But." Lambo said, "We bought you two gifts. We understand that we're most likely going to lose, but it was the least that we could do." He said, before disappearing behind the curtain and returning with two large boxes and bouquets of flowers, I-Pin took one of each from him.
They gave the women their respective packages, after some kicking had happened to Mukuro to get him to move.
They were neatly put together care packages, filled with the things that the two women enjoyed as pick-me-ups. A few of Chrome's favorite candies and a new silk eyepatch with her initials sewn onto them, The newest book by Nana's favorite author, and multiple gift certificates for the Vongola spa in Japan that Nana had taken a liking to. Both had little homemade notes in them made by I-Pin and Lambo telling the two how much they appreciated them.
"That was very sweet of you two. You know how much I enjoy new eyepatches." Chrome said, admiring the navy blue eyepatch with awe while Nana gushed about how great the book series was.
"This definitely gets a fifty." Chrome and Nana said, nodding in unison.
"They didn't even do anything cool!" Hayato complained.
"It was the thought that counts, Hayato, don't be a jerk!" Chrome chided, looking through the candy bars with a look of love. She had been meaning to go out and buy more, but she was always so busy that she never had time to do it. But now, now she had at least two of each of her favorite candies and she could definitely get away with eating them late at night when Kyoya was asleep.
"Who is going next?" Mukuro asked, deep into his bowl of popcorn already. He never actually participated in the festivities but he enjoyed watching the others compete for affection.
Tsuna made a show of shaking the hat so that the names were even more jumbled up than they already were before he he pulled the next slip of paper out. "Can someone give me a drumroll? I feel like this deserves a drumroll." He said, smiling like crazy.
"We can give you a drumroll." Fred and George said, grinning wickedly.
"I'm not quite sure I trust you two, but go for it." Tsuna said. It was Mama Appreciation Day, he was gonna let a lot of things slide.
And so the twins summoned matching drum sets, and gave Tsuna one of the most off tuned drumrolls that Tsuna has ever heard. They had to stop Kyoya from attacking the two of them. It was truly that terrible.
"Thank you." Tsuna said, out of politeness rather than actual appreciation. 'The next person to go up is Takeshi." He said, smiling fondly at his long time friend and practical brother. He knew that with Takeshi it was going to be slightly normal, and no tat all life threatening for the most part.
There were multiple shouts of encouragement and a few wolf whistles for Takeshi when he went up the stage and got whatever it was that he needed from behind the curtain. He reappeared minutes later with what looked like an entire kitchen behind him.
"Dinner and a show?" Viper asked hopefully from her perch on the couch that they had dragged in from one of the various rooms around them.
"You won't be getting any of the food, but yes." Takeshi said, pulling various things out. "So, what I'm going to be making for our beautiful women are chicken stuffed with spinach and cheese...and yes, I found this recipe online." He said to the lot of them proudly.
"Did you test this out first or are we test subjects?" Chrome asked curiously. She wasn't opposed to any of the weird foods that Takeshi made, she just wanted to make sure that they weren't going to die.
"I was the test subject." Hermione said for her mother. "It tastes great, don't worry about it Mama." She said, patting her mother on the knee.
"Takeshi always makes nice food." Nana said, nodding in appreciation.
Takeshi smiled proudly at the women. "You guys flatter me." He said, waving off their compliments. "So, I'm going to show you guys how to do this, step by step!" He said.
"Oh, so you're going to educate us too?" Reborn asked.
"Yes, I'm going to educate you. Now, be silent or I'm going to throw a raw chicken breast at you." Takeshi said happily. Holding up a rather huge chicken breast.
"Get on with it, it's already nine-thirty and i'm tired." Skull complained from where he was sprawled out on the floor.
"That's pathetic, kora." Colonello said.
"You're both pathetic, now shut up so i can cook." Takeshi said, picking up a saute pan. "So, now the first thing you're going to do is put olive oil on the pan, then you're going to put two cloves of garlic in there as well, and then, you kinda just dump the spinach in there. You can add lemon juice for taste, but it's got to be actual lemon juice and not lemon juice that people get in the store is just gross...I like using the lemons that grow in the garden but Tsuna said that I can't keep climbing the trees because one time Kyoya threw grapefruits at me and I fell out and broke my arm." He said happily, stirring the contents.
"We don't even have grapefruit trees, where did you even get the grapefruit?" Tsuna asked under his breath. He swore that he had to raise more kids than he actually had.
"Anyway, you took the spinach all the way through and then you just put it to the side until you're ready to use it again. What you're gonna do now is cut your chicken in half. Not like down the middle half but the side, ya know? And so you're just gonna cut all the chicken you're going to be using that way." Takeshi said as he cut the chicken. "And then when you're ready you just put the cheese and the spinach in there, and once that is taken care of you just put these toothpicks in to make sure that they don't fall out when they're in the oven, and you put salt and pepper on them, and then you cook them for thirty minutes!" Takeshi said happily. "And the next thing that you're gonna do is you're gonna make a cheese sauce, which basically consists of a stick of butter, the good stuff not the cheap stuff that Viper gets for you when you ask her to go shopping for you either,a bottle of whole milk, cream cheese, and a bowl full of parmesan cheese. And you just whisk it until it's all nice and thick." He said. "I'm making like five pieces of chicken because I know that some of you get upset when you see food and can't have any, and it's rude to make food and not give it to a pregnant woman."
"What are you gonna do for the rest of the time it takes to cook it?" Lal asked, reaching for one of the multiple bowls of junk food. Her pregnancy cravings led her to eat things like chips, and candies that she had never bothered to actually eat before, along with more hearty meals like stews.
"I'm gonna tell you guys jokes." Takeshi said proudly.
Everyone groaned loudly in protest. Takeshi told the worst dad jokes.
"My jokes are not terrible, Hermione loves them and she's a smart young woman." Takeshi said, looking quite offended.
"How about, we skip the dad jokes for the night and the next person goes up and you can take the chicken out whenever the timer goes off?" Tsuna asked. He wasn't going to lie and say that he didn't make terrible dad jokes, but Takeshi was the worst at dad jokes.
"One dad joke?" Takeshi asked.
"One dad joke and you have to take me to a movie." Chrome said.
Takeshi looked like he had just won the lottery. "Do you guys want to hear the one about paper?" He asked, when he got a few reluctant 'sures' he couldn't help but laugh at himself. "Never mind, it's tearable." And then he proceeded to cackle like a madman.
"That was truly the worst joke you had ever told." Hayato said. He hadn't slipt any terrible dad jokes since the first year they had Hermione, they just didn't feel right to him.
"I thought it was hilarious." Ryohei said, laughing more than a normal human should laugh at a terrible joke like that was. Of course, Ryohei was also notorious for making terrible jokes, especially at the dinner table, and early in the morning when none of them were ready or capable of handling such terrible jokes.
Colonnello was also laughing, but Colonnello was alway fond of dad jokes. Lal said that he had a book about them in his nightstand, but he would always deny it if anyone ever asked.
"It could have been worse. It could have been the one about the tree going to jail." Aria said helpfully.
"We're not getting into this again." Tsuna sighed, running a hand through his hair. "Kyoya, please just get on the damn stage and do something. I don't even know if you're participating this year but please do something."
Kyoya grunted and made his way to the stage. "I don't like this amount of crowding. I'm only here because I love my wife and my daughter, who ask me every year to come to these things. I could tell you about the rules and laws in Namimori, or I could brag about Hermione's grades or I could show you how to do self-defense. It's your choice." He said blandly.
"Do you even know how to teach a class?" Fran asked.
"No, but that isn't the point." Kyoya said, glaring at Fran sharply.
"We can brag about how smart our daughter is later, tell us a story." Mukuro said, enjoying the show that the others were putting on. "A good one, and not some weird ass story about how you got ten new policies passed in a month."
"That was a very successful month for us." Kyoya said, sounding hurt and maybe a bit offended. "How can you simply dismiss something as important as growing a community for the better?"
Hermione smiled and leaned close to Ron and Harry who, like the rest of the Weasley's, were watching in what was a mix of silent awe and horror. "Father is really invested in the town that my parents grew up in. Sometimes we make jokes about how he loves Namimori more than us." She whispered, a glint in her eyes that was never there at Hogwarts.
"Your family is very amusing." Harry said, because what else can you say when you watch your best friend's family perform a talent show?
"I think I'm going to get murdered in my sleep by someone in this house." Ron said in complete honesty.
"It wouldn't be someone who lives here, but I can say that someone will try physical harm at one point." Hermione told him, giving him a pat on the shoulder gently. "It's nothing serious, only three of my parents would actually attempt it." She said while her father's and mother argued about something or another. They got off topic very easily.
"Darling, tell your father that he can't just say things like that." Chrome said, snapping her head in Hermione's direction.
Even though she had absolutely no idea what was going on at this point Hermione wasn't slow to respond. "Father, you can't say things like that it's very rude." She said, smiling fondly.
After that any sense of order that the family had was gone, and they were all back to laughing freely and dancing around the large space when Lambo plugged his phone into a speaker.
"Is this how your family hosts a party?" Ginny asked, grabbing Hermione around the middle when they were simply partying again.
Hermione laughed, and twirled Ginny around the way that her Daddy did with her. "We try to keep organized, but with so many people we can only do so much before something like this happens...Mama doesn't seem to mind though, so it's alright for now." She said. "Are you enjoying it here? I know it's only been a day but we're going to take you guys out tomorrow to this nice place in Rome, and they have these nice cheese platters"
Ginny laughed, which was more of a reaction that she could get out of Ron or Harry. "The Varia are a treat." She told her.
Hermione tipped her head back and howled in laughter. The timer for Takeshi's chicken went off in the background followed by the sound of him running to take it out of the oven. "Just make sure you don't go anywhere with them unsupervised, they're sneaky." She said, trying to stress the supervision part.
"They don't scare me. They seem like a bunch of dorks." Ginny said.
Hermione groaned. She was afraid that Ginny would be the one that somehow got involved with the Varia. "Just don't agree to join them. They're savages, and they cheat at cards." She told her friend.
Chrome and Kyoya came up to the two, arms linked and laughing slightly at something.
"Your mother wants to dance with you." Kyoya said as way of explanation, handing his wife off to Hermione in what resembled a ceremony to Ginny.
Hermione looked pleased with the idea and after giving Ginny and Kyoya a quick hug she was off, whisked away by her mother.
"I'm going to bed, I assume that your lot can find your way back to your rooms." Kyoya said, and Ginny was surprised to find that everything that came out of his mouth that wasn't directed towards his wife or daughter did in fact sound like he was personally insulting one's entire bloodline.
"I'm sure we can find our way." Ginny said. She was oddly curious as to why he was telling her anything but she wasn't really going to question him directly.
Kyoya just grunted before he left silently. It was either so loud in the room that she didn't even hear his footsteps, or he was just really good at walking without making a sound. Either way, Ginny was shocked when she turned and found that he was nowhere to be seen.
"What were you and Hayato going to do?" Chrome asked Hermione while they danced, even though their version of dancing was to spin each other around and occasionally dip one another.
"Do you think there's any chance of us being able to show you?" Hermione asked.
"Not at all." Chrome giggled. Because honestly, by now they get so sidetracked they should really just stop doing stuff like this.
"We were going to have a sword fight. Pops helped us out and everything. We'll find a way to show you all of our hard work." Hermione said, feeling quite determined to show her parents all the work they had put into it. Not that she minded them all getting too distracted to continue, there were too many people for this to be an organized function anyway.
"I'm sure you two will." Chrome said, yawning loudly. She finally stopped moving around and flung her arms around her daughter. "Hermione, your Mama is tired." She said into her shoulder.
"Then you should go to bed." Hermione told her mother, wrapping her arms around her as well so that the two were a tangled mess of hugs.
"I want to wait for Takeshi's chicken, he said he forgot the plates so he has to run all the way to the kitchen to go get them." Chrome groaned out. "I can totally go for a coffee right now." She said in a stage whisper.
"Chicken and coffee are not a good mix." Hermione told her mother.
"Are you sure, are you really sure?" Chrome asked.
"Yes, Mama, I'm sure that chicken and coffee are not a good mix right now." Hermione said, rolling her eyes affectionately. Her mother was always trying weird food combinations. Some were good, others...not so much.
"I'm going to go bug your Papa into getting me coffee." Chrome said, face set into determination.
"I'm gonna say I told you so when this ends up being a terrible life choice." Hermione told her mother in the same kind of voice that she usually reserved for when Ron and Harry did something stupid.
"If it makes you feel any better." Chrome told her, before promptly vanishing.
Hermione sighed contently, it was always nice to be home.
So, I really wasn't feeling this chapter. But the next one will hopefully be better, I promise. And the chicken that Takeshi made, I totally made that for dinner the other night and if you want the recipe I can totally send it to you.
