'Ok ladies, handstand walking please.' Sasha ordered while all of us obliged. It was getting tiring and I felt myself drained from energy, yet I still had to push myself to the limit. It's the only way I knew.
'Did he pledge to kill us before Nationals?' Emily joked.
'I don't know…' Kaylie replied. '…but whatever it is, I'd rather have Sasha as my coach than anyone else.'
'Would you two stop talking!' Payson scolded them. 'If Sasha catches us, we have to do another two laps!'
'…and you are right there Payson! At least one of you knows how I work, and Martina didn't complain, yet because of you two Kaylie and Emily, I have to tell you to do another two laps handstand walk please.' Sasha ordered, while Lauren entered running into the gym and started warming up. 'Down for 5!' He ordered again as he moved to Lauren. 'What do you think you're doing?' He asked her as she went straight down to her splits.
'Um… Warming up for training?'
'…and what makes you think you can do that?' He confronted.
'Um… I don't know if you have noticed Sasha, but I'm one of the gymnasts here…'
'You are one if you are here on time Lauren. Now get your stuff and exit this gym immediately… and be here tomorrow at 5am if you still want to be a gymnast.'
'…but?' She started.
'No buts Lauren!' He scolded again as he turned to all of us. 'From now on things are going to change. You train when I tell you too, and you stop when I say so. Nobody is pushing herself to the limit. Am I clear?'
'…but Sasha! We need to push ourselves to the limit!' I replied back softly. I wanted to win, I had to be in my utmost game, and I could do that only if I pushed myself to the limit.
'Martina, you are the least one you should talk about this… look where it ended you up because you pushed yourself so hard…'
'Sasha, Martina is right!' Payson added.
'Payson, you too, you broke your back for your strong headedness. You all won't listen to your bodies, then I will make you listen to it…and you Lauren, I'm not tolerating any more bitchiness in here… am I clear?' He replied again, while we all mumbled a soft 'Yes Sasha.'… 'I said, Am I Clear?' He emphasised again.
'Yes Sasha.' We said in unison.
'Good, now start on beam and spot each other.'
'What's wrong with him today?' Payson started. 'He never scolded us.'
'Guess he slept on the wrong side of the bed.' Kaylie replied.
'…or there is the possibility that he is right…' Emily added. 'We're still teenagers and we still don't know how and when to stop.' She continued as she did a switch leap.
'Tina, are you ok?' Kaylie grabbed my attention.
'Yeah… I'm fine… just thinking…'
'…about?' Payson added.
'Nothing…'
'Um…' Emily started as she went down from the beam. 'Tina… I was wondering. Are you ok?'
'Yeah… of course I am! Why do you ask?'
'Well… you seem to be losing weight again!' Kaylie noted.
'Really? I… I haven't noticed.' I quickly stuttered. 'Well… I can assure you… I am fine…' I smiled. 'We should better think on what to do! If Sasha will be decreasing our training… we are facing some problems!'
'What do you think we should do?' Payson asked slowly not getting anyone's attention.
'Well…'
'We can come training here… alone… when the gym is closed.' Emily suggested.
'Although that's a good idea…' Payson started.
'The gym will be closed! We don't have the keys!' I added.
'You guys don't have the keys! I do…' Kaylie added. I can take them from dad's study. He has a set of copies…and please don't ask me from where he obtained them…' She finished.
'You always manage to amaze me Kaylie!' I joked.
'Anyhow… are you guys all in?' Emily smiled, while Payson got down from the beam.
'Count me in… My parents are almost never home and they notice when I'm there…' I started.
'What about Austin?'
'I'll tell him that we have some school stuff or that I met a boy… He wouldn't say no for that…'
'I can tell my parents that I'm doing extra running laps.' Payson continued.
'…mum works late… she won't notice…'
'…and I'll use your excuse Payson.' Kaylie added. 'We'll meet at the gym's back door. It's less noticeable there, we'll meet tonight at 7.30pm… are you all in?'
'Mhmm…' We smiled.
'What are you in for?' Sasha caught us off guard behind us.
'Um…' Kaylie stuttered.
'On facing the Vault… I have to get the blind landing.' Emily saved us all.
'Ok… get back to work… please…' He ordered.
It felt good for once breaking the rules to improve in our techniques and everything. We had to get better in one way or another. Whatever the situation was we all had to be in our upper game… and the only way we all could do it is by training harder. I was already on the treadmill at home. I had to at least squeeze a half an hour here and there when Austin wasn't home…but whenever I was lost in thoughts I didn't even notice the confines around me.
'Martina…' He started as he pushed the stop button. 'I thought I told you to take it easy!'
'I am taking it easy Austin… can you please stop worrying?'
'No I can't…'
'Please don't start again Austin! I'm tired…' I replied again as I got down from the treadmill and tried making my way out but he soon stopped me in my tracks.
'Well, I'm not… and you're obviously not that tired to be pushing yourself this hard…'
'Austin I'm fine…'
'Did you eat?'
'Yes…'
'Look straight into my eyes and tell me that you ate Martina…'
'Austin… I ate…' I said again. 'I promise I did!' I insisted again.
'What did you eat? Grapes or apples? Because those are the only things missing from the counter…'
'Austin please… I'm trying to eat… can you please let me do it on my account?' I asked him gently.
'Martina… I'm doing this because I'm worried and scared for you!'
'I know… but I can promise you that I have it under control…'
'I hope so Martina… but know that whenever you need I'm here for you…' He smiled again as he took me into his embrace. 'Now come on… Let's go eat some dinner.'
'Um… actually today I'll be going to Kaylie's…'
'Oh… um… ok…' He smiled. 'Do you need me to drive you?'
'No… no… It's fine… We're meeting few blocks away.' I replied as I checked the time. 'In fact I should get going.'
'Let me at least drive you...' He insisted. I decided to not make it suspicious and let him do so.
'Ok…' I smiled. 'I should go get ready…'
'I'll wait for you in the car… ok?'
'Mhmm…' I smiled as I quickly texted Kaylie to meet me there. That way we wouldn't have anything out of place.
'We all made it?'
'I think so…' Kaylie replied as she opened the back door and found the gym quiet all to ourselves. 'Wow… we have a gym for ourselves! This is exciting!' She smiled as we all put our stuff at the side and started warming up.
'What are we going to work on?' I asked Payson as she spotted me on normal conditioning.
'I brought the paper Sasha wanted to work us on. We can use this extra time to practice his higher DOD's'
'That's a good idea.' Emily added.
'Now let's get to work…' Kaylie continued. 'We're all warmed up from this morning.' She smiled. 'Ohh, and I think we should keep this from Lauren. I don't want drama during these times!'
'I agree!' I added. 'What about you two?'
'You didn't even have to ask us about that!' Emily chuckled.
'Same here.' Payson smiled. 'Now let's start bars…'
