AUTHOR'S NOTE: Hello, all! :) So I was going though the "recent" chapters and realized it had been awhile since I had done an Anna and Elsa centered oneshot. I mean, one of the reasons I started this whole AU was because I absolutely loved the family dynamic the two of them shared in the film. So, here's Anna and Elsa watching a horror movie. Hehe, oh this was FUN.
Ping!
Elsa's phone screen lit up and rumbled against her desk. She glanced over to see it was only a text. She had to finish this report before clocking out, so she ignored it for the moment.
Ping!
Elsa's screen went bright to show another message.
Ping!
She narrowed her eyes at the device, not choosing to hide a small growl. Elsa's coworker across from her lifted her eyes from her own work.
"Somebody's popular." She teased good-naturedly.
Elsa smiled sheepishly. "Sorry. It's probably my sister."
Finally giving in, she grabbed the offending device and unlocked it. Well, she was half right.
Anna: Hey! U up for a movie night after work?
Gregor: Hey love. Question, you busy tonight?
Anna: Shoot, I have a small feeling I interrupted one of ur thought processes. Sorry! ^^;
Elsa gently rolled her eyes. "Sometimes I think they do this to me on purpose."
"Everything alright, sugar?" Tiana, her coworker, asked.
"Mmhm." Elsa hummed. "I just got two separate offers tonight. Have to choose between my sister and boyfriend."
Tiana's face turned to one of worry. "Do they not get along?"
"No, no, no. Nothing like that." Elsa quickly amended. "They get along great. Her boyfriend is actually roommates with mine."
Tiana laughed. "What are the odds of sisters dating two guys who are also roommates? Almost sounds like something out of a book."
"Ha, it really does."
Elsa replied to Anna's text first.
It's fine, sis. And I would love a movie night. On one condition, we stay home?
Elsa tapped send and Anna replied instantly.
Of course! Text when u leave work.
Elsa pulled up Gregor's contact next.
Sorry :( Anna asked if I wanted to do a movie night, and I honestly just feel like staying in. Raincheck?
The ellipsis appeared as he typed his reply.
Np! You should never feel bad about wanting to relax, especially for wanting to hang out with your little sis ;)
Elsa smiled warmly at his understanding. He really was a wonderful guy.
Thanks, I owe you.
Nonsense. But if you insist, dinner tomorrow night? Say, 7:00?
Elsa chuckled. "What a dork." She muttered to herself.
It's a date.
Elsa hesitated before adding on a heart emoticon and then sent the message.
"You've got it bad."
Elsa looked up from her phone. Tiana had such a smug face, that she couldn't help the reddening of her cheeks.
"I...have no idea what you're talking about." She squeaked in a voice that even she herself wouldn't buy for a second.
Tiana's raised eyebrow confirmed this. "Honey, either you're the worst liar ever, or you're in love with the boy." Elsa opened her mouth, but Tiana stopped her with a gentle raise of her hand. "Don't even try to deny it. I've been married to the biggest idiot for six years, trust me, I know what I'm talking about."
Elsa closed her mouth, thought it over, and sighed in defeat. "It makes no sense to me."
Tiana cocked her head with interest, signaling for her to continue. "I haven't known him all that long, let alone dating wise. I just...I don't want to end up rushing into something I have absolutely no prior experience in, you know?"
The woman snorted. "Do I ever. Before Naveen, I was, as he so eloquently put it, a 'stick in the mud'. Not that I let him get away with calling me that. I'll admit, I was a bit of a workaholic."
"A bit?" A voice boomed as a tall man walked into the office. He laughed. "Darling, you worked two waitress jobs, each overtime, while simultaneously finishing your degree. A bit is a gross understatement."
"Oh, hush, you." She grumbled halfheartedly as she shoved his arm. He just chuckled before planting a kiss to the top of her head. She rolled her eyes, returning the form of affection nonetheless. Elsa quietly giggled at their behavior. "Elsa, this is my husband, Naveen. Naveen, Elsa."
Naveen offered his hand. "Pleasure."
Elsa shook his hand and smiled. "Likewise."
Tiana stood up from her chair, stretched out the kinks in her back, and then grabbed her coat. "Sorry, dear, but I've gotta get going."
"Don't worry about it." She stole a glance at her wristwatch. "I should head out soon as well. Anna's probably already home."
Tiana nodded kindly. "Don't work too hard, now, you hear?"
"I won't, I promise. It was nice meeting you, Naveen."
"Likewise." He repeated happily. Tiana let out a huge yawn. "I take it I'm driving?"
"Yes, please." She replied tiredly.
"Anything for you, my love."
Tiana stopped in the doorframe before turning back over to Elsa. "Oh, and don't forget what we talked about, okay Elsa?" She winked.
"Haha, got it."
She nodded, wished her good night, and made her way out with her husband. Elsa returned her attention to her computer screen and groaned. She still had a ways to go on her report. She started up her typing again. About ten minutes later, her phone went off again.
Ding!
Elsa reached over to turn it off, but noticed the alert was for an e-mail. She opened it up.
Elsa,
Sorry our chat got cut short. I like talking to you, Elsa. You're a lot more interesting than our coworkers, let's be completely honest. Anyways, I think when we're both less dog tired we should do lunch or dinner.
See you Monday!
Tiana
P.S. A little word of advice regarding your boyfriend. Dig a little deeper, I can tell you don't have far to go.
"I wonder what she means by that." She pondered out loud.
She noticed an attachment and decided to download it on the computer. She locked her phone and then logged into her work e-mail and clicked on the link. Her lips made a small pop when her mouth opened. Tiana had finished her report for her. Towards the bottom was a side note that said: Don't work yourself too hard, take it from someone who's been there ;)
Elsa stared at the screen in awe. She saved the document, copied it into the rest of her report, and then sent it off to her boss. As she gathered her things she came to the conclusion she was without a doubt treating the woman to lunch come Monday.
As she headed out towards her car she dialed her sister's cell. Anna picked up after the second ring.
"You're leaving early. Good work day?"
"You could say that, yes. I should be home in about twenty minutes."
"You want me to start dinner?"
Elsa fumbled with the phone on her shoulder as she searched for her keys. "Actually, I was going to ask if you wanted takeout. Figured if we're going to do a movie night, might as well do it right."
Anna laughed. "Hey, I'm not objecting. Any suggestions?"
Elsa finally located her keys and unlocked her car. She slid in, tossing her purse onto the empty passenger seat. "Hmmm, Chinese?"
Anna hummed hungrily. "Ooh, sounds perfect. I've been craving their wonton soup."
Elsa started her car and buckled up. "Mind calling in the order?"
"Of course. Your usual, I presume?"
"Yep."
"Great, see you when you get home. Love ya."
"Love you too, bye."
Elsa hung up, threw the phone into her purse, and then pulled out of the parking lot.
"Wow, she finished the whole report for you?"
When Elsa got home she explained to Anna why she was able to leave work so early and her conversation with Tiana. Her and Anna were standing in the kitchen, sorting through the takeout containers. Anna had already taken the liberty of changing into sweats and an old T-shirt by the time Elsa had returned with the food. She even decided to take her two plaits out and settled with a simple ponytail.
"Yep, I couldn't believe it." Elsa pulled out Anna's soup and slid it over. She folded the paper bag up and dropped it in the recycling.
Anna opened a takeout carton and peered into it. "She sounds amazing. I would love to meet her." She studied the chicken. "I can't tell if this is your General Tso's or my sweet and sour. They all look the same."
Elsa looked inside. "Just try one."
Anna scrunched her face. "Ew, no. I hate General Tso's."
Elsa rolled her eyes. She picked up the smallest piece she could find and popped it in. Her puckered face said it all. "Yep, that's definitely yours. Anna, how do you handle that much sweetness?"
"Says the woman who eats things that are basically on fire."
"It's not that spicy."
"Lies!"
"Wimp."
The two paused for a beat and then burst out laughing. Olaf sat on the counter, observing the two weirdos he called his owners. Anna grabbed her respective carton and a fork, then made her way over to the couch. Olaf followed, hoping the redhead would be generous, or clumsy, enough to drop a few crumbs. Elsa walked towards her bedroom to get more comfortable, already pulling out her braid.
"Do you have any afternoon classes Monday?" She shouted from the hall, backtracking to Anna's previous statement.
"Well, I usually have a 12:00, but my professor has a conference he's going to and cancelled class. So now all that's left is my 4:00." She answered.
"Perfect." Elsa stepped into view with her hands gathering up her hair and an elastic dangling from her mouth. "I'm going to treat Tiana to that sub place across the street during our lunch break. You should meet us there."
"Sounds like a plan." The blonde nodded before heading back in to change. Anna got up from the couch, being sure to take the food with her, and wandered over to their movie cabinet. As she looked them over she stabbed a piece a chicken and shoved the entire piece in her mouth. "Sho, fhot mofee shofd fe shafch?"
"Anna, swallow. You're gonna choke yourself one of these days."
She did as she was told and then playfully stuck her tongue out when her sister came back out. "There. Happy?"
"I can barely contain my enthusiasm." Elsa deadpanned with her arms crossed. She was in her usual nightwear, a tank and shorts.
Anna snorted. "So I see." Elsa went back to the kitchen to grab her food. "Come on, Els, what movie do you want?"
Elsa tried to file through their massive collection in her head. "Well, what are you in the mood for?"
Anna grinned wickedly. "How about horror?"
"No! No way!" Elsa raced back over now with her General Tso's and chopsticks.
"Aw, come on. If you're not going to watch any of them, why'd we buy them?"
"Excuse me, you bought them." Elsa pointed her chopsticks at her sister for emphasis. "Why, I will never know."
"I love being scared."
"How does that even make sense?"
"Now who's the wimp?" Elsa huffed. "I'll pick a tame one," A thin, blonde eyebrow started to rise. "I promise!"
Twenty minutes later...
"This is tame?!" Elsa shrieked.
Anna was cackling on the couch. Elsa had paused the movie after jumping nearly fifteen feet. She now had one of the couch pillows pressed into her middle and the blanket she had draped over her shoulders was starting to slack. The takeout, each container about halfway through, was placed on the coffee table long forgotten.
Anna, while she too jumped, could barely breathe for a whole other reason. "I...think...it is."
"What is wrong with you?" Elsa whacked Anna's forearm with the pillow. She continued to laugh like a hyena.
"Do you want the short version or trilogy?" She managed in between breaths.
Elsa sighed heavily. "Glad to know my cardiac arrest is entertaining you."
Anna quieted her giggles. She picked up the remote and used it to point towards the screen. "We don't have to keep watching if you really don't want to."
"No way!" Elsa protested, causing Anna to flinch. "I'm already invested. I want to know what happened to the boy. Although, I have a feeling he's haunted, not the house."
Anna's grin started to grow wider. "You're sure? You're not scared?"
"Oh, I'm terrified, but this actually has an interesting plot."
Anna scooted over to her older sister. She leaned in close. "So, what was that about horror movies?"
Elsa averted her eyes and puffed out her cheeks. "Can it, Anna." She grumbled.
She giggled and threw an arm around her shoulders. "Els, I haven't seen you pout like that since we were kids."
Elsa tried to shrug her arm off. "I am not pouting!"
"Oh yes, you are."
"Anna, so help me..."
Her little sister sat up straight, hands in surrender. "Okay, okay, I'm done." She snickered.
Elsa got up to put the leftovers away before they spoiled, then sat herself back down, getting herself re-situated. They resumed the movie, both girls subconsciously huddling closer to each other with each passing minute. By the very last scene, their arms were around each other's shoulders, watching the screen with such focus. The very last second of the end, the screen went black, followed by a scream. The two girls shrieked, frightening poor Olaf. He jumped under the couch, his eyes darting left and right from beneath.
After getting over the shock and steadying their breathing, Elsa was the first to speak. "Are you kidding me?"
"Huh?"
"That's how they end it? That's so unfair!" Elsa whined.
Anna chortled. "That's how a lot of horror movies end actually. On a cliffhanger. Makes the paranormal activity seem more real when there's no happy ending."
"Oh, come on. But he just went through all that trouble to get his son back, and then he gets possessed? Talk about irony."
Anna nodded in agreement. "Believe me, I'm with you there. That's how I felt when I very first saw this." She thought to herself before smirking. "You know, they did make a sequel."
Elsa stared at her, openmouthed. "...I hate you."
Anna sniggered and got up from the couch. "So...after that loving conversation, sweet dreams, sister dear."
Elsa was out of her seat like a bullet. She grabbed Anna's arm and pulled her closer. The redhead let out a small squeak in surprise. She looked over at her sister, an eyebrow quirked in her direction. "Um...well, do you think, we could, or rather I could...uhh.."
Anna resisted the urge to burst into laughter. "Els, are you asking to sleep with me tonight?"
Elsa narrowed her eyes. "Tell anyone, and I'm suddenly an only child."
That did it. Anna was once again in a fit of laughter. She caught a glimpse of the death glare Elsa was sending. "I-I'm sorry, Els. But you're face is so adorable!"
"Anna."
"Yeah, yeah." The younger rolled her eyes. "Of course you can. But, how about we share your bed? It is bigger, we're not exactly five and eight anymore."
Elsa had to chuckle at that. "Fair enough."
Olaf mewed and rubbed in between their legs. He seemed especially attached tonight. Anna picked the feline up. "I think we scared the poor baby when we screamed."
Elsa nodded. "I think so, too. Okay Olaf, you can come with." She looked down at the cat with suspicion. "Although, I have a strong feeling we're both gonna wake up on the floor."
"Why's that?"
Elsa sighed. "Because that ten pound trouble maker somehow manages to take up half my bed all on his own."
Anna thought over the many times their pet spent the night in her room. "Aw, maaaan."
AUTHOR'S NOTE: Yes, I lied. I put in Tiana and Naveen even though I once told a reviewer I wasn't thinking of adding any more characters and that Rapunzel and Eugene were the only ones because they were technically part of the same universe. Welp, things change. I absolutely love The Princess and the Frog for so many reasons, that explaining them all would take hours. I found after a lot of brainstorming that Tiana and Elsa actually have A LOT in common:
1) Both are hard workers and realists.
2) Both in their respective films start out not having any interest in romance (Tiana obviously changes her mind by the end of her film, while Elsa remained single in hers)
3) Both have a deep love for their family, and a particular family member who is the sole reason they work so hard.
4) Both faced harsh discrimination in their films.
5) Their personalities, in my personal opinion, are very similar.
