You should probably rewrite the paragraph 3-5 to make it clearer that she sold the ultra ball. Also with paragraph 5 in particular, I really advise you to rewrite this part

"he only gave us 300 poke for it. That's – well, half would be 600, and half of that again is 300"

Maybe give the normal sale price and what the clerk gave after, then have the main character do "half of 1200 is 600 and half again is 300."

As it is that sentence basically makes no sense without the reader rewriting it in their heads.

UGLY CRYING ABOUT THIS CHAPTER FOREVER. I love how "low stakes" and yet utterly gripping this story is. Very, very well done.

A very interesting look into Sammy and her worldview, I really really like these small hints as to her lines way of life, and the song was such a nice touch.
And she finally evoled! And it really did fix her issues!

Great chapter, I really like Sammy as a character and it's gteat to see a culmination of her development so far. I wasn't sure about a riolu being on the team since it's such an overused pokemon and I've been enjoying your use of less popular ones, but so far I've enjoyed the character. Thanks for the chapter

I really enjoyed Sammy's perspective! Sweet that she thinks of Lena as sister. I loved Sammy pushing against Athena - no one likes to be told someone else knows something about you that you don't know about yourself. Nice to see how she's brought into the fold and to see that mutual learning happening. This seems to be hinting at Lena becoming more powerful...and maybe some growing pains. Her ties to her pokemon might not be quite as strong as she assumes, but they're strong enough to hold for now.

THAT ENDING. I AM HAVING FEELS ABOUT THIS WHOLE CHAPTER AND I LOVE IT. I love how Lena is trying to cope and how things are hard but she is trying and I loved how she went back on her own to face her specter and decided to help I loved the thoughts about what being a trainer means and just everything.

What a chapter. This story has drug up all kinds of emotions that i didn't expect from a Pokémon fanfiction. Like jeez, you're really knocking it out of the park with this fic.

I loved the detail that she’s been cutting her own hair. I also like that she’s clearly still processing what happened. It feels right for recent events to have weight. The underlying issues of drugs and unfairness in the system have not been resolved, and we know that, and Lena has to process her knowledge that it’s not fixed. And she was betrayed by a mentor.

I think this is a reflection of reading in pieces instead of all in one go more than your writing, but it’s still probably worth knowing I had totally forgotten where we were geographically. I had to google the Unova map and find the daycare again.

[And I think how 'trainer' is something bigger than battles and pokemon. 'Trainer' means you can go where you want and be who you want. It means you don't ever have to be ashamed or afraid.]

I loved seeing Lena take a turn at becoming a mentor. Our baby is growing. Though, an observation: she’s being reassuring, but her words could potentially become a yoke on the other girl’s shoulders. Lena has lots to learn about what I means to be a leader. We are definitely getting to see some character growth... but she still feels like a kid. (As she should.)
