Calenheniel chapter 25 . 9/3
Look at all dem tea and historical references she is dropping here, there, and everywhere! I'm a big fan of that, by the way. Adds a swell touch to the entertaining to and fro of the plot. Unsurprising to see that Hans has been hiding out in the Great Land o' Poop itself, the UK (I bet he misses the sunnier days in Arendelle). I can only hope that in the final chapter, Anna convinces Elsa into conjuring those ice dragons, after all, and doing away with the ice dildo at last.
Calenheniel chapter 24 . 9/3
Anna is delightful in this chapter, chicken scratch notes and all. Perhaps in a one-shot side story after this fic is completed, you could write about her escapades in law school? I would consume the hell out of that. Frederik continues to prove to be the biggest Poop Prince of all, even rivaling his youngest brother in poop-headedness. (Which, of course, is no surprise, given what we know about Frederiks - "ice dildos" by any other name.) Elsa needs to pull out those old chess skills and go to town on that mf'er. Check YOURSELF, bitch!
Calenheniel chapter 23 . 8/18
Goddamn it, Hans... I'm not surprised, but really? What a loser. You must always assume that a Frederik has the upper hand on you. I found Anna's concluding argument to be quite convincing, on a different note. I'm glad you're addressing in this fic the rather worrisome idea that Elsa can create sentient life forms with her magic. I'm all for ice dragons, personally. Diplomacy be damned!
Calenheniel chapter 22 . 8/18
I do so much enjoy how brief and to the point your prose is - none of my long, comma-ridden, endless sentences with emdashes and semicolons out the wazoo. I always strive to get my work to be closer to yours in that regard!
Calenheniel chapter 21 . 8/14
What. Did. I. Tell. You? Never trust a Frederik. ALWAYS bad news bears! I love the nods to the grand ol' Empire, Les Mis, and the lot. It's never really a certified Yumi fic without historical drabbles thrown in. And Hans, being shrewd as he is, would most certainly be aware of such developments, and use them to his advantage. Let's hope he's more cunning in this attempt, than he was in the last one...
Calenheniel chapter 20 . 7/15
Anna plotting to get Hans and Elsa together is perhaps one of my favorite bits of fanon ever invented, in fact I'm calling it - it's canon. I'm also incredibly interested now in a fic where Hans and Elsa are just drunk the entire time and making sloppy, stupid declarations and confessions to each other.
Calenheniel chapter 19 . 7/15
Lol your author's notes, as if two people learning to love each other isn't part of the plot! "Are you courting me?" Oh, Elsa... blithely ignorant as always. Yet we love her for it. Thankfully there are authors like you in this world who will reward her for her goodness with flowers, instead of punishing her for her prudence (like me).
Calenheniel chapter 18 . 7/14
Young love, so blissful, so sweet! Once again Yumi is the master of Anna dialogue, there is no one better at writing it. I also learned the name of her horse today, thanks to you!
Calenheniel chapter 17 . 6/30
Oh Hans, come on... a random stable boy recognizes you? Red flags, my man. But I do love the Sitron reunion, it's quite touching. And what a surprise to find out that the royal carpenter knew about Elsa's powers all along! Though perhaps not so surprising, given the amount of furniture he must've had to replace. I like this bit of lore-building, if carpentry can indeed be counted as lore.
Calenheniel chapter 16 . 6/30
What a sweet lil' conversation they had at the end! Like Elsa, I, too, enjoy seeing Hans speechless, without an analogy or clever phrase to throw out at every turn. And I love watching him realize what his life could be like, without being that way. Now, about Fredrik... don't ever trust a brother by that name, eh? You know what I'm talking about.
Calenheniel chapter 15 . 6/30
Your end notes are hilarious on this chapter, because I actually found the ship-cockblocking to be one of the best parts. You can always count on Olaf to completely 180 the mood. I admire his effort to befriend the Poop Prince, who of course had no interest in him at all. (Why would he when all he wanted was dat sweet ass?) Good for him for rebounding from the interruption, though the thought of him limping over to her in her room in a sexy charge also made me laugh in a different sort of way.
Calenheniel chapter 14 . 6/30
Review for Ch. 5, since would not let me review the same chapter twice... I, too, could visualize Hans's stories as he was telling them! How well you've captured the easy charm of his persona, and all the niggling self-doubt and trauma lingering just beneath the surface. Have I mentioned how much I am loving this reread yet?
And for Ch. 6: The melodrama! Yes! Feed me MORE!
Ch. 7: The reasoning Hans gives as to why Elsa didn’t become a monster – because she had something to protect – is very poignant. May steal for a Hans speech in my own fic. You’ve crafted him into a fine interrogator in this chapter, btw.
Ch. 8: Oddly, and not sure if you intended this, I was feeling some Kristelsa vibes in this chapter, and I liked it. I also wasn’t expecting Hans and Elsa to kiss this soon, because you know me – I keep people apart to torture them and then kill them as soon as they can finally be together. So it was a pleasant surprise and a welcome change from my sturm und drang.
Ch. 9: The relationship between Anna and Elsa is so pure and gentle here, and I love that. You can feel the warmth and trust between them, even with the appearance of a rift (in the form of Hans). Speaking of which, the dialogue between Hans and Elsa here is also incredibly touching and beautiful. Painfully so.
Ch. 10: I’m tickled to see that this chapter is dedicated to me (I had quite forgotten). And what an epic chapter it was! Sword fights, ice fights, stabbings! The best kind of drama.
Ch. 11: I absolutely ADORE the line about Elsa not knowing who she is without Hans, her “mirror.” Pure poetry. It also makes sense that the shock of Hans’s “death” would cause her to regress to her former introverted state, but I am glad to see Anna break through that as always with her quick charms.
Ch. 12: Yoooo I FORGOT that Hans lost part of his leg in this fic. WOW. Such an enjoyable, unexpected plot twist for the Poop Prince. Also: he is SUCH a big baby. “Waa, no one loves me, just kill me already” – shut it, Hansy. Get up on that crutch!
Ch. 13: Just a thought, but maybe Elsa could fashion him a semi-permanent ice peg leg? Just the image makes me laugh a bit. Also because that sounds too close to “pegging,” and well… that’s a whole other story with these two. And, as usual, men being babies and not knowing how to process these things called “feelings.” Big LE SIGH. I also am not sure if I said this yet, but I think you have such an amazing talent for writing Anna. You really nail her voice in every chapter. AND I loved the challenge Elsa posed to him at the end. Maybe use those things called emotions, for once, ya dummy!
Ch. 14: Eirik, Eirik, Eirik, you sneaky old man… never count out a Southern Isles asshole from the game, amirite? And ho ho at the premise of swearing oaths of fealty in private. Hans, you sneaky devil. I really admire the political intrigue you injected into this chapter, with details of Arendelle’s backwardness in terms of tech and general knowledge. Certainly makes sense when they’ve been secluded for so long.
Calenheniel chapter 4 . 6/17
This chapter I remembered from the way back when, as one of the early ones which had me completely hooked on this fic. The drama of the storm and Hans's daring intervention - it's all very clearly related and I could see everything happening in my mind, as if in a film. I seem to remember there being fanart for this fic somewhere, I'll have to try and find it. Another excellent chapter. And onwards!
Calenheniel chapter 3 . 6/17
First of all - Hans making a Kant pun is EVERYTHING. And then baiting her about her parents. As any good armchair psychologist should do. Needless to say, I love him trying to draw the still very repressed Elsa out of her noggin.
Calenheniel chapter 2 . 6/17
I really loved this instalment - particularly the flashback to Hans and his father, and then charting his rise to infamy through flattery of the right types of people. Maybe this makes me a sadist, but I also liked the little details you put in about the exact tortures his brothers would inflict on him. Really makes the point of how unhappy his childhood was, and to what lengths he had to go to overcome it (though he obviously didn't, really - not psychologically, at least). Wee!
