Reviews for A Fine Pair
DaemonRider chapter 1 . 5/13/2014
Awww! This is so sweet! Your writing style is wonderful to read, it was so easy to become immersed. Balexi, a fine writer herself, was smart in pushing you to write this crossover. You served both universes well!

I found Hermione's characterization to be spot on to how I would expect to read her, when given the small gender preference tweak. ;-) I felt right at home. I loved the continuity in her loyalty to her friends, first to the old, and then to the new.

Quinn's character was also a delight to read, because I found her to be even deeper and more complex. First, in her facial and body expressions. "the lovechild of a smirk and a sneer" is priceless. What a great line! I could immediately picture that on Quinn.

Then going a little deeper, I found it intriguing that while Quinn projected great strength in how she carried herself in front of Hermione, her friends, her younger classmates, and certainly on the quidditch field, it was a different story in the bar around the Hufflepuff team and Malfoy. She didn't bite back at all during these uncomfortable moments, the way she likely would have at WMHS. Nor did she cower, either. She just kind of shut down. Of course it all makes sense once we learn that these are reminders of her homelessness. But it's just interesting to me because there are several ways that you could have written the Quinn we know into these situations, in this AU. I'm really curious now, how did you come to choose this particular characterization, and these specific (non)-reactions of hers?

It should go without saying that I wish for much more. This crossover is so rich and this romance so natural, I hate to see the story stop here. Thank you so much for sharing this with us!

By god do they make a fine pair!
It was a pleasure to read this from start to finish. Thinking of Quinn's smirks and Hermione's coy smiles meant that I read it with the most ridiculous smile on my own face. You did Hogwarts well and, in my Fabranger stupor earlier, I forgot to mention how well you wrote Hermione's relationship with Ron & Harry. It wasn't about them of course, but with such well known secondary characters you have to do them well, also :)

"...the lovechild of a smirk and a sneer played on her lips..." Perfect. And loved the image of punk!Quinn strutting down the aisle between the tables of the dining hall.

"...the feeling didn't vanish, it migrated from her hands to press on her chest as though every book she ever read sat on her lungs..." Such a perfectly Hermione description :)

"You missed a spot," Oh man, the look of humiliation on Hermione's face in the movie when she wipes her mouth- perfect use of this.

"Her tangled curls bounced on her shoulders and one broke free and tickled Quinn's nose." You know why I liked this image :)

I'd say well worth the wait, but you were very quick to deliver :) Now chop, chop on your big projects so I can make more requests :)
