This is fascinating - I'm definitely going to have to re-read it sometime when I actually have the time to go through it more slowly. I love Persephone stories, and this one is very well done. Thank you for posting it!

It has been a while since I've read one of your stories. You have gotten infinitely better, although back two years ago you were no slouch in your art. It might be me, but the symbolism in this hit me like the baseball bat of subtlety multiple times.(though that might be since I love mythology and I don't think you were being uber mega subtle)
There were the basic spelling errors here and there(such as gender bending Snape for half a sec.)
I liked the story. It was in tune perfectly with the original myth. It went a little fast with the pacing for my liking since I'm used to longer stories. Nice job on this story.

I am... confused. Perhaps it is because I am on a streak of really depressing stories, but this is how I read it:

They were only intimate once when drunk, something Hermione resents ever happening. She graciously allows him a to kiss her on the cheek here and there, but is otherwise totally cold. She switched from outright defiant to just acceptance of a sentencing in the marriage and can't wait to get on with her "real" life... no matter how hard her husband tries and wishes from the core of his being that it was any bit different. They live together without happiness nor love, rarely offering comfort - because Hermione wants none of it. And then she suddenly loves him, the end.

I really enjoyed this story! Great job!

Hades and Persephone is one of my favorite myths, and the Severus-Hermione pairing maps onto it pretty well. I've always thought that Hades and Persephone must have come to some accord, since she rules the Underworld by his side as an equal. Hades is also the only god not to run around behind his wife's back, so he must have felt something for her, right?

I found your Severus to be quite sympathetic, and felt bad for him in his disappointment (and lack of social skills/understanding of his fellow human beings). I found your Hermione, raging back and forth between self-pity and contemplation/acceptance of her situation to also be a good interpretation of the character.

Since you went to all the trouble of the scene with Lily, I felt kind of let down with the ending since it didn't talk of how she loves him and of him finding love in her. I also didn't feel enough empathy for him as I don't think you delved far enough into the story. Good idea for one.

This was such a pleasure to read. I love your writing style and your literary devices. It is not very often I come across moving pieces like this. Exceptional!

beautifully written story, but please, make an epilogue or happy ending with the two, where they finally have a passionate consummation!
