Omg, Ichigo. Can't see he's being manipulated by Aizen. Even Shiro-Zangetsu told his to be suspicious of the guy when Ichigo thought he was being too paranoid! When your own freaking spirit tells you to be wary of someone, you be freaking wary of them and do not trust what they say!

I'm not going to lie, I didn't like everything you did in this story. Nonetheless, it is a terrific one that I read to the (current) end. I do hope you're doing well, and someday come back to this. Reading the AN's in the chapters, I know that some of these have taken a while to get out, so yeah. Here's to hoping.

This story is amazing!

Man I missed this fic. It's got to be one of the best Bleach stories I've ever read. I decided to revisit some old stories I've read before, and decided to take this one up again. So, for the past two months I've been binge reading this whenever I got the chance, and I gotta say, it's just as good as I remember, maybe even better. I'd love to see this last arc, and maybe the anime coming back will inspire you to finish this to the end, but to anyone reading this review, I can't recommend this fic enough.

Jesus, I had no clue what I was getting into when I opened this story up.

I actually feel pretty disappointed with the outcome of this chapter, and Aizen's behaviour until. I think he was both something you should rightfully be proud of, but also one of the biggest weaknesses in the story when considering its basic themes.

The fact that he was more than a simple one-dimensional villain is good, and better than most other fics in any fandom that deals with powerful villains. You might say it's better in that respect than canon's rendition, which never explored his motives deeply. When you started exploring aspects of the world such as the roles of the noble clans, that too was good for filling in what the canon never showed, giving depth to the story.

The weak part was in two related areas.

First, there were many parts where it seemed to be as if the story was drawing on reader expectations of Aizen being the villain, where characters had information they shouldn't and came to illogical conclusions. The first really jarring points were Ichigo's so-called "instinct" regarding Aizen's facade, and the interpretation of Kyouraku's warning. The warning was particularly problematic because in the analogy of the old and new gardeners, the obvious parallel is not to Aizen because there's no new gardener to contrast him with. Instead, it should be to Urahara and Kurotsuchi, or Urahara to Aizen, but with Urahara being the older, apparently perfect one by comparison. Aizen's persona to Ichigo was also never "perfect" and unfailingly polite. Ichigo noted that Aizen was willingly to openly speak about problems in Soul Society to a large group of people, the kinds of things that could get him under suspicion of treason. In fact, he even makes a statement which could turn suspicion on himself, if he actually were the perfect picture of kindness, right before he made the comment about Ukitake. He espoused a philosophy that asked Ichigo to think critically, which also contradicts Ichigo's impression of a cult, and that impression came far too early in his first calligraphy class. I know that instinct is practically a superpower here, but even so, reason would say that Aizen is much more trustworthy than most of the other people Ichigo met, sharing the same ideals and sharing information freely too. I find it very strange that Ichigo seems to have lost most of his anti-Shinigami way of thinking so quickly when it seemed as though he kept discovering new terrible things, and disliked Aizen even though he seemed to be among the rare few that supported his ideas on change.

The second problem is that Aizen did not feel like the mastermind that he was supposed to be, nor did his interest in Ichigo seem to be actually shown through actions. It paints the picture of an incompetent man instead. When he got Kazumi to work for him, why didn't he instill more loyalty with his charisma that was written as to be incredible? Why did she feel guilty about the spying part and not justified in helping Ichigo? He could have easily presented himself as a secret supporter, someone who had been investigating the evils in Rukongai and working against the corrupt system. If she had at the end, told Ichigo to seek her backer for help in changing the world to fulfill their dream, his perspective would be completely different, wouldn't it?
When he was trying to turn Ichigo to his way of thinking, he made amateur mistakes and focused on things that didn't really help his case. What was the point of bringing up Ukitake, especially when he committed no great wrong, and Kaien was a problem Aizen himself caused? Speaking of Urahara's status as a traitor was not a bad move, but it also wasn't a particularly good one, because again, he himself was behind it, and it leads to suspicion on himself eventually. Instead, he should have focused on the things that would garner Ichigo's sympathy. Other forms of corruption and oppression in the noble system, Kenpachi being a mass murderer and killing a captain to take his place, Mayuri's terrible experiments on live subjects, the unfair disgrace of the Shiba family, etc. He could talked about the extermination of the Quincy and the lack of proof that they actually destroy souls where Shinigami purify them, the nonsense about maintaining balance in the cycle of reincarnation when human population has grown astronomically with new souls over time, or the "necessary" death of souls in Soul Society.
When Aizen left Soul Society, it also didn't make sense. He revealed himself originally because that was the time when he acquired the other Hougyoku. His whole plan to kill Central 46 and fake his death was because of that, to deliver the sentence for Sokyoku and take the Hougyoku when the other captains were all distracted. What was the point of faking his death in this story? He certainly didn't need it to break Ichigo out, and he didn't spend much effort actually convincing him to go with him if that was what he wanted. There was no reason to appear on Sokyoku hill in plain sight when he could have take Ichigo somewhere more secret or use Kyoka Suigetsu to keep them hidden until he could be persuaded to leave. All in all, he accomplished nothing by faking his death, and nothing by leaving except make it obvious that he had committed the crime of working with hollows. Even if he was concerned about Isshin returning, there was hardly any proof that he was the one who sent the hollow to Masaki, and plenty of suspicion on Urahara instead who was already in the living world and "known" to be doing those experiments. He could have even left in secret and waited for Ichigo and Rukia to become permanent fugitives (perhaps by orchestrating a fight resulting in significant deaths on the Gotei's side) once they started fighting the Gotei after their breakout, since he didn't need to take the Hougyoku from Rukia during her public execution. He was evidently capable of going to Hueco Mundo secretly whenever he wanted before, to raise his hollow army. This essentially read like contrived plot progression based on how things went down in canon instead of an actually intelligent villain reacting to a different set of events.
Finally, there were several times when Aizen chose not to speak further on talking points that clearly would have helped him convince Ichigo to his side while Ichigo was a spy, for no good reason. It's especially strange because Ichigo himself should have sought out that knowledge insistently anyways, giving Yhwach's advice to seek truth from all sides first.

Now it appears that Aizen is gone and a lot of things Aizen spoke about will have to be discovered by Ichigo on his own. I suppose given the final words Ichigo said to Aizen, it could be that he is actually on Aizen's side and Aizen will return when Ichigo's "regress to progress" phase ends, but regardless of what he decided, the way he reached this point felt a bit disappointing.

Mm.. this is the first time I saw a teacher limiting their students abilities instead :'D

I'm neutral with Kazumi but I hope Ichigo didn't get too obsessed with her, cuz that's...kind of unsettled
