Wow! Very interesting take: this is the first time I read Annie's perspective on these specific events. And so well written.
Although I have one small remark: the soldiers didn’t put on hoods, either in the manga or anime. Not specifically - not until Armin proposed this tactic (hmm ... I will take it as Annie’s subconscious mind unconsciously distorts the events by playing a variety of scenarios and she just realised it).
Armin is no exception - the hood covered Arlert as a result of his hard fall from the horse. That is, Annie had more than enough time, if not to recognize him, then to spot a blond mop obviously not belonging to Eren. And still she chose to get a close look at him... Although before that she quickly determined that none of the two soldiers riding with Armin was Eren, but without such a risky check. Tough one of them wore a bandana on his head (if there was misinformation, then there could be a disguise). And after that, she was able to determine Eren without resorting to such measures again: proving that titans has acute vision and hearing.
She consciously wanted to verify exactly the identity of Armin (both times). Cause she don't want (more like not able) to be the reason of his demise (and the poor guy did not realize the individual treatment he received due to mere lack of information at that current time).
I certain that is because she obviously had (I hope still has) some unresolved feelings for Armin (just like he is - his actions speak of this. Bertold has nothing to do with it. And no one will convince me otherwise).
And probably she unconsciously wanted to be caught so that she no longer had to do that...

I have never read something that touched me like describing of Annie's state.. no, torment here. I can already tell what an amazing author you are. You captured the way she most probably feels right now in such a poetic and riveting, enchanting way. Truly magnificent. You certainly are something.

I remember the one Connie-Sasha chapter, but you should/could/have to do more!
