NoblesseSeria chapter 21 . 4/24 Awww, beautiful ending! Congratulations to you and your father on a job well done. This is going on my favourites list for sure! |
mrspencil chapter 21 . 10/11/2019 This was an engaging story with interesting twists and some neat touches of humour. Distrust is horrible and made an effective weapon. Well done:-) |
Trekkiehood chapter 21 . 11/9/2018 A very good story. Glad I found it. Have to admit, I was a little nervous when Hogan pulled that gun on Newkirk. Poor Hogan has to make all the tough decisions. I'm glad they decided to stay tho! |
spookysister7 chapter 21 . 3/8/2017 Great in character story |
Abracadebra chapter 1 . 12/28/2016 Reviewathon time (I marked this as a favorite in 2013 but have not yet reviewed it.) A love a good yarn that picks up on an episode and fills in the missing pieces - and this one certainly promises to do that! General Biedenbender is one of the most memorable cameo performances in the HH canon. How did he know so much about Colonel Hogan? We're about to get the back story! His outburst at the very mention of Hogan's name is so true to the spirit of the show! The author deftly switches between scenes and characters, carrying us from a British jail cell to Barracks 2 and back purposefully and seamlessly. Her original character, Simon Knatchbull-Quimby, appears to be a most excellent villain. But my favorite part of the story is the most mundane - the heroes' revulsion over Carter's efforts to prepare what might generously be called a meal. Funny, funny writing, with a pitch perfect Newkirk jabbing the air in protest at the chef! Can't wait to read on. |
Gunney chapter 21 . 8/28/2015 This was such a delight, and desperately needed after today. Thank you, thank you, thank you! |
Gunney chapter 13 . 8/28/2015 Yer breakin' my heart with this stuff! So good. This must have been a thrill to write. Onward! |
Gunney chapter 1 . 8/28/2015 Love this first chapter. Lots of intrigue and call backs, and the dinner scene was literally laugh-out-loud funny. Glad that at least LeBeau came to Carter's defense. |
SaraiEsq chapter 21 . 9/28/2014 (claps) Bravo! Bravo! Very well done. Enjoyed every word. And, please tell your father I said, "Thank you for your service, sir." |
SaraiEsq chapter 14 . 9/28/2014 This story is most excellent, most excellent. |
tess chapter 6 . 6/9/2014 ohhh things are begining to really heat up now |
peanutbutterjelly-pie chapter 21 . 4/7/2014 I enjoyed this story very much! It was intriguing, suspenseful and exciting but also filled with the typical HH-humour! The characters were wonderful written, I could really hear their voices in my head. I especially loved the revelation that Newkirk took care of the poor little puppy :) But I felt a lot of pity for Hogan. He trusts his men so much, so it must have been very hard to suspect someone would be capable of treason. And than all this little secrets, just showing that men who live 24/7 together have the right to keep some things to themselves! But it was a great and well-thought-out scheme that might have worked if Hogan's trust in his men wouldn't have been that strong! But it distracted him for quite some time and that's really not an easy thing to do! So thank you very much for this great story, it has been a lot of fun :D (And by the way: It's really sweet of your dad to be your beta reader :) And it must be quite interesting to talk to him of this kind of stuff, I can imagine! At least I always find it very interesting to talk with my grandma about her life in Nazi-Germany. So thanks to your dad for sharing his experience ) |
Segue2 chapter 1 . 1/7/2014 Possible spoilers, ahead, though I'll try to be as vague as possible. :) The chracterizations here were wonderful. Especially what the various lads were hiding. Definitely in character. We know Carter is an... admirer, of the lady in question, and it definitely fits for Kinch to be reading what he was. He's just modest enough to want to hide it from the others, too. It fits his character, and it fits with the time. Well Done! |
konarciq chapter 21 . 1/2/2014 This intriguing looking story got published at a very quick rate during a pretty busy time for me - so I finally downloaded it to my kindle and read it one go yesterday! First of all, your writing is absolutely perfect. The story was simply unputdownable - it's vivid, engaging, intriguing, pleasant to read... You just *have* to find out what's going to happen next! The characters, too, are drawn extremely well, both the Heroes, the Germans and the OC's. Even Biedenbender and Schmidt were delightfully in character! You could see them do what they did, hear them say what they said - just as if you were watching an episode! The story as a whole is incredibly tense. KQ pulled a really nasty stunt here, and Hogan was the main one suffering from it. But after some very logical suspicions and their not so nice results, he came to the only correct conclusion - as usual :-) The guys were very much in character, too, when that came out: hotheads like LeBeau and Newkirk versus the calmer, more philosophical Carter and Kinch. The sabotage of the tunnel - when it was finally pulled off - was a joy to read. True HH shenanigans! It was a bit unclear though where Dubois got off to in the end. Apparently he didn't get captured, but what did happen to him with the Gestapo after him? (Or have I forgotten that already in everything that followed? ;-) I was rather surprised to find out that it was Newkirk who had taken care of the puppy. Of course it worked excellently for the story, but when they were running off at the time, I had expected either Carter or LeBeau to do something like that. And kept expecting that - especially LeBeau since he got nothing stolen - all through the petty theft episodes! It turning out to be Newkirk was a nice unexpected surprise! And the little mite of course made for some delightful lighthearted distraction occasionally :-) But great storytelling and intriguing plot aside, I do have a bit of a problem with a few story elements that seem to go against the plausibility of canon. Heidi is the first one. Of course we needed *something* that would make Newkirk act the way he did for Hogan to so thoroughly suspect him of treason, but would Schnitzer really leave a dog that is about to have puppies, alternatively a mother dog with a bunch of newborn puppies at the camp? Wouldn't he take those back with him? The guards can't be supposed to take care of the puppies, and Heidi can't be used for patrol or whatever those dogs do at the camp. So what's she doing there? Secondly, the dramatic effect of having Hogan come to London to apprehend KQ himself and let him visit Biedenbender is tremendous indeed. But considering that London ought to be very capable to arrest KQ without Hogan's physical presence, would they really let Hogan and the operation run the risk of getting him out of camp, flying him to London, making sure he doesn't meet KQ beforehand, and then fly him back? And all of that, basically to allow Hogan to personally take revenge instead of leaving it to the London police or the MP's or whatever? As I said, it's a tremendous dramatic story-telling effect, but I doubt London would allow Hogan to come over *just* to satisfy his thirst for personal revenge. They really didn't need him to be there in order to arrest KQ. And from what we see on the show, I would think (but that's a personal interpretation) that Hogan is too professional, too, to allow himself the 'luxury' of craving to personally act on his feelings of revenge - I'd expect he'd simply be grimly satisfied to hear that London grabbed KQ and have it over with. And telling him to shut down the operation they could have done over the radio... The last thing that puzzled me a bit was the end. Knowing Hogan, wouldn't he have manipulated Klink into letting Newkirk out a lot sooner than his 30 days? He always did so on the show. Maybe not as long as Hogan himself is confined to quarters, but after that... It also puzzled me a bit that apparently during that entire month that Newkirk was in the cooler, nobody questioned the fact that they got no more escapees and no more missions to handle. Hogan's bombshell comes as a complete surprise there. Surely it can't be customary to temporarily shut down the operation, just because one of the men from the team (and not even Hogan himself) is in the cooler? If that were so, they wouldn't even have managed to have all the adventures of 168 TV episodes within the time limits of the war... ;-) Still, these few implausibilities do not detract from the fact that you're a marvellous story teller. Like I said: I simply couldn't put it down! This really is an excellent story that even though in the spirit of the show has a very tense feeling over it. And of course with a textbook perfect ending! So thanks for a great read! |
jediyam chapter 21 . 12/31/2013 Great story! |
