While I don’t necessarily agree with how comfortable the banter between Hiccup and Stoick is, I love their dynamic. It’s so very on point and in-character. (Typical INFP/ESTJ interaction, for any MBTI junkies out there.)

I also loved the hammock scene between Hiccup and Astrid. So genuine and pure; you could almost touch Hiccup’s love for her. Pure brilliance.

Although, I do have some more things I’ve got to mention:

1. Amelia is not a Norse name, it’s Latin. There’s no reason why she’d have a Latin name, other than the possibility of her being descendants of Romans, which I doubt.

2. Jensen is indeed Scandinavian, but not Norse enough. It comes from Jens, which means “Gift from God,” or something in those lines, and the Vikings haven’t been Christianised yet.

3. If the Tuffnut/Amelia pairing was supposed to be a *subplot*, then it makes no sense to dedicate an entire scene like that to them—it’s out of place and slightly odd. You could’ve written it from Hiccup’s perspective and done it just as well.

4. Stoick would never let a villager scold him like that lying down, and the healer, if this was believable, would’ve never dared scold him like that. He’s a chief, and a parent, and no one tells him what to do except for those whose judgement he truly trusts—like Gobber, his very close and trusty best friend. That healer is an OC with no real relation to him, so I don’t buy it for a second.

5. Also, canonically, Hiccup isn’t clumsy. The branch slapping thing could’ve happened to anyone. There’s no reason to make him clumsy. He doesn’t become more quirky or different or amusing if he’s clumsy.

6. Gustav wouldn’t say “snogging”—remember, this is an Americanised movie with American accents. British words have no place in their vocabulary.

7. Vikings, technically, have no precise way of telling time, so if they haven’t invented some kind of minute-counting clock, I don’t think they’d know how many minutes there’s been—or even have that system, for that matter. It’d be more believable if they said something like, “He was here a bath ago,” but less ridiculous-sounding. That gives you an idea of how long, at least.

Anyway, that’s that.

Overall, I think this is a good story, petty mistakes aside. I hope you take my criticism with a bit of ease, because I nitpicked almost everything. You’re a good writer, though, and I enjoyed it.
