Los Grotos chapter 1 . 9/9/2016 This is such a thoughtful, beautiful piece. I really love seeing how she became more aware and responsive to we plight. Really amazing ! |
Scherherazade chapter 1 . 3/29/2015 Really good character study. |
emletish chapter 1 . 1/13/2015 This was beautifully written. You have really brought kanna to life here. She's spirited and plucky. I love how you've fleshed out her relationship with pakku and yugoda. The detail about how she feels about her home and culture and the traditions was brilliantly done. Very nuanced. The thought you've put into the water tribe gender constructs is fascinating and really makes this story a very vibrant character study. |
Beloved Daughter chapter 1 . 6/28/2014 Loved reading this story! A great look at what life must have been like for Kanna... I just wish that the story continued through Kanna's journeys and eventually falling in love. Also, Kanna has a sister - would have LOVED to see Nissi's descendents meeting Katara and Sokka. :) |
TexasDreamer01 chapter 1 . 1/1/2014 Oh. I would very much like to see Kanna's adventures before she finally sets down in the Southern Water Tribe. |
Cap'n Clueless chapter 1 . 12/29/2013 …Excuse me for a minute. My feels have just been suckerpunched in the gut. Alright, better now. Wow. Wow wow wow. That was amazing. Pakku, Yugoda, Kanna – your characterization of them was brilliant. I loved how Kataro was depicted, how you managed to show the contrasts between Kanna's heart and the collective identity of the Northern Water Tribe. I love how you built the idea of the Earth Kingdom up slowly. And I think you managed to play her slow-burning indignancy at the damaging sexism of the NWT very well. In summary, good work, and I love your writing. |
Little ratties chapter 1 . 12/15/2013 This is beautiful. Compliments, words cannot describe it. |
random-k chapter 1 . 11/3/2013 Wow! That was beautiful |
Kimberly T chapter 1 . 11/2/2013 EXCELLENT character piece! I wish we'd seen more of Kanna in the series, at least her and Pakku's reunion sixty years later; she must have been a truly remarkable woman in her youth, to travel solo across a world at war. |
Foreveralways101 chapter 1 . 11/1/2013 This is fantastic! I love stories about Kanna's leaving I've always wondered how she left the Northern Tribe. Please write another chapter about her travels or how everyone reacts to her leaving? :D |
Sage of Wind Dragons chapter 1 . 11/1/2013 you know that's awesome and all... till you realize she could have just tried to do a trader thing or something. still, DAMM fine story, dam fine. liked that you didn't make the northern water tribe evil or nothing, you handled everyone well. you know I generally never really like the way people handle these, the whole Woman FIGHT thing in medevil cultures and forcing the arguments as men are being sexist. cause they could go so much MORE FUN. I loved that as Kanna didn't have that issue you had far more wiggle room and greatness and stuff. its kind of funny actually, in OLD civilizations, ill try and not put a definite time so ill just say civilizations of the sword to stone, men would generally fight instead of woman because they are more EXPENDABLE. the tribe as a whole can AFFORD to lose a man in a hunting trip, in battle, and time and resources are LIMITED, and were not training people to fight for BRAWLS(although idiot teenagers..) training them to KILL. they don't GET the luxery of not fighting, if someone puts a sword in your hands, your going to KILL and DIE for them, your only options being to run in shame(and most likely far worse shame than if a woman does. even if it might be eaiser to start over somewhere fresh with a new name) So I never like this fighting cool! types, Katarra she was already IN the thick of it, that's an acceptable necessary and RIGHT reason to do it commendable to take the initiatve... I really liked that bit on Pakku about it being his DUTY to fight and all, you touched on some fun things. a ting among them being is unless they are something else (why only healer and fighter? why no house builders or fisherman and woman water bender and all other types of things? I mean it s a TRIBE CITY, theirs got to be all SORTS of things) not to mention that for a long time lineage could only be absolutely definite through the mother, why woman cheating was seen generally and even has its roots today as more of a big "deal" type nonsense... and yeah warrior strong woman, captured and you can BREED with absolute authority a half something baby why Princes would be killed but a Princess is married to the evil guy story device, trying to take the strength of the LINEAGE... and yeah another ting being that men that survived then well I KNOW that near everyone would have been stronger as fucks, they used to fight with bows that take 500 Lbs of strength to use! so in mass groups like this where fighting would be hand to hand BIG messy, probably want big and sturdy and generally because not ROOM for fast and speedy, addmitingly in magic land that changes a whole lot and you CAN work with em... althought he water tibe generally SHOULD be that type warrior tribes rather than other things that bit about exceptions to the rule proving the rule itself because that the norm is NOT the acception so it wouldent be BEEFICIAL for the masses... don't get me wrong I LOVED it, especially Kannas where shes not directly involved and therefore its not a fight or flight that MOMENT there, this was the quiet death the slow burning and well tempered resolve it was NICE and showing that its going to HURT everyone around her that cares about her and loves her and she KNOW it and AKNOWLEDGES it and STILL has to go... you showed both her own perspective and views and tastes of OTHERS. SO nice even if I kinda HATE the earth kingdom woman strong! when the only remotely ones are the Kyoshi female war(amazons) that ARNT earth kingdom AND Toph. whos a nobel secret city rat type girl.. even the more KINGDOM tribe DID show more level of indipendece... although now that I think aobut it, besides fire nation and Katarra and specials have we EVER seen a female traveling that's ALONE? nearly always alone IN city because men off to fight in a war or something... huh, ddamyeah, youre making me think. I like that Kanna got seduced into the exotic lands and all through a partal way and it WASENT one thing so a follish decision in that way! AND all of the above reasons MIXED IN with men stupid stuff! always fun. |
Princess Unikitty chapter 1 . 11/1/2013 for such a long story. that was great. liked the dialogue, plotting, and your characterization of gran-gran. |
