I didn't expect this story to take this tragic turn; unless there's more? I really enjoyed your writing. It was quite simply beautiful and poignant. No need for a backstory, here. You said what needed to be said in those few paragraphs. And welcome to the HH board.

This is a very poignant story, but a bit upsetting wondering if he lived or not. Of course, him being him, you would think he would.

Heartbreaking, and very well done. It made me think of the old song "Green, Green Grass of Home".
