Ebola is highly contagious. It's a perfect disease to write a post apocalyptic or massive pandemic story.
It spreads by the saliva, blood sexual fluids and all body fluids. You just need to cough to somebody to get infected. So Takano, whole school and probably half of Tokio would get Ebola. And also it's not chronic condition so after two weeks Ritsu would get cured or die.
Here much more suits cancer. I know there are a thousands stories with main character with cancer so it wouldn't be very original. I'm very sorry for being sticker for details ;)
But it's still AMAZING story! I loved it!
