I know this fic is rather old, but I only saw Samurai Champloo last week and only saw this fic today and may I just say HOLY SHIT.
This tore at my heartstrings from beginning to end and I am impressed that you stuck with the heavy heavy topic throughout the entirety of the story, and gave Mugen some wonderful growth as a person (without it coming across as out of character).
Seriously, this was heartbreakingly beautiful. Thank you.

My heart is broken. You have moved me, and I almost wish you hadn't. I almost wish you hadn't captured the characters, specifically Mugen, perfectly, and I almost wish your writing style wasn't so artistically raw.

This broke my heart, so dark but yet so meaningful. It was well-written and your metaphors are superb. I'm normally more of a Fuu and Mugen shipper, but this made my gut wrench a little. I love how Mugen was happy for Fuu, and the ending left a pleasant feeling, as though it wasn't quite over and Mugen's heartbreak might not be in vain. Anyway, nice job :)
