I've just barged through this lovely story like a (very charming) freight train, and I loved every minute of it - thanks! You capture everyone really well, and I liked the case as well.

Guh, I wouldn't mind being kissed into submission by Jack! Nice interrogation scene between the two, also.

While I would never WANT Phryne to get shot, this was another great, easily-visualized scene between her and Jack. He's so tender, sigh.

"May I come out, sir?" - Okay, I was happily reading along, caught up in the sexy Jack/Phryne banter, and then THIS LINE made me actually snort out loud. :P

"As do we all" - wonderful line, very well-played. The entire nightmare scene was lovely and touching. Despite her fearlessness, Phryne has been affected by the tragedies in her past.

What a fun start! I loved the "cogs" interchange - it played like one of those series scenes where Jack and Phryne are off in their own little world and Hugh is waving his arms in the background saying, "Guys? Guys? I'm still here!" ;)

Intense with the shootings! Good visuals in your writing.
