ooooooh holy shit I might like this even more than the Fort Verse, my previous favourite of your au's in this series!
im already wondering what everyone else's roles in this au are, how this world works with this idea of remnants of magic being an everyday thing while actual spontaneous magic was unheard of until Kaito turned out to still exist (and im guessing Vermouth wherever she is is in a similar position)
so what I've got from this is that there's some sort of reincarnation situation with Shinichi that means he's sort of the same person Kaito once knew without having literally lived for a thousand years like he has.
we're going to get to see Shinichi go about his archaeology business, a big part of which will be solving this mystery that he is smart enough to know exists but cant get Kaito to just tell him about, with Kaito himself effectively haunting him, now an ever-present immortal magically undefeatable companion who has hang ups and definitely considers himself in charge of protecting Shinichi...this time.
to top it off we have Vermouth to worry about, especially since she somehow escaped the ruins already/has a way of avoiding Kaito's ability to hunt for her - either way, she spells trouble for the newly formed duo...
gah, this is such an awesome idea!

This universe sounds really interesting. The fact that Kaito keeps telling Shinichi that it would be better for him not to remember just makes me want to know what happened more. I’m really looking forward to seeing more of this. :)
