First of all, I love your summary. It's just so perfect: intriguing without giving anything in particular away.

I was excited to start reading your 'fic because it's pretty rare (so far, that I've seen) to read anything about Hange's past; I have my own headcanon ideas and even just one scene in, I feel more confident that other people might agree with it. Even in the canon she's not a "typical female beauty" (I hate saying that, but hopefully you know what I mean; she's not really conventionally pretty), and I'd imagine her childhood was pretty difficult because of it. Kids are far crueler than adults are, sometimes.

The second scene is just really so sad. It almost made me want to cry because Hange is so exuberant in the canon; despite this, it's still easy to imagine her as a child getting up her courage to confess to a boy she likes…only to be rejected unkindly. That she thinks she has to do all of these things to…I don't know, to stick out less or to call less attention to herself is so sad, too. I want to hug her.

Levi meeting Hange is no longer possible, but I still like it. It's cute. (And the next scene. AHHHH. That she's having fun antagonizing Levi and that doing so lets her forget to hide her face or be embarrassed about the scrutiny of others? Lovely.)

I really like that Levi listens to her talk, and that she realizes very quickly that maybe she's rambling too much, and gets really embarrassed. The difference between Hange here and Hange in the canon is so different that it's kind of exciting to think how much more confident she gets by then. :D

Hange being excited about the research area was TOO CUTE. Loved that scene.

Levi's advice–"Don't hide."–is just so perfect here. It's simple and it sounds like something he'd say.

And the last two scenes are just basically perfect. Lovely and fun. I need to get to bed (I have to be up really early tomorrow), but I wanted to tell you how lovely this story was, and I wanted to thank you for writing it and sharing it with us. :)
