An interesting AU event, and a great perspective into the Duke's head (well, possibly, anyway). I found Satine promising the Duke that he'd find love someday fascinating, considering that before she met Christian, she "couldn't love." I love your characterization of Satine, and the pity from both of them for each other was classic. As per usual, fantastic.

Yes, probably it would never happen, but you brought up things like Christian's own moments of madness that made me believe that perhaps the Duke could, after all, have a change of heart. My favorite part was when Satine thought "... I was no longer the Sparkling Diamond. Perhaps she was in an alternate universe, dying in her beloved's arms." What sad irony. Marvelous.

Was v. brilliant and wonderfully written, of course, but this Duke obssession is going a bit far, isn't it darling? :D Just kidding. . . you know I think it is fab. You are the only person who can make the Duke be halfway decent without changing canon to heaven and back!

I thought the story was very good. Except, Christian was not trying to keep her from gping to the arms of another man, he was trying to proove that shse never really loved him. He couldn't except the fact that she loved him and then left for another man, so he wanted it all to be untrue.
